Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt was honestly hard to find many negatives about Hotel Santo Stefano. Arrival was a bit confusing with unclear directions and ferry routes. Few nearby breakfast spots or bars, but the area was quiet, felt safe for two women walking, and only about 15 minutes from St. Mark’s Basilica.
Our stay at Hotel Santo Stefano in Venice was wonderful once we settled in. The location is incredible — right in the middle of a lively piazza with multiple restaurants and cafés, and perfectly situated between two ferry stops. This made exploring the city so convenient once we figured things out. Getting there, however, was a bit tricky. Directions weren’t very clear, and since we arrived in summer when ferries run less frequently in the evenings, navigating from the Ferrovia stations (with heavy luggage on cobblestones!) was a challenge. A clearer explanation of ferry routes would have made arrival much smoother. That said, once we arrived, the staff was fantastic. They immediately recommended a restaurant in the piazza where we had one of our best meals in Venice. The hotel itself was very comfortable: zero steps to the elevator (a blessing after our trek), strong AC, a cozy bed, and clever storage solutions that made the compact room feel functional even with lots of luggage. The bathroom was small but well-appointed, with hot water that came on quickly and a great shower. Overall, a perfect place to stay if you want a central location, great staff, and comfort after days spent exploring Venice.

United KingdomMaybe could use a tiny bit of refurbishment but it did not affect our stay at all and we still highly recommend it!
Such a cute, quaint hotel in a lovely square just a short walk from Piazza San Marco and Rialto. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were very cute, in Venetian style, very clean and with nice layout and with nice touches like complimentary tea, coffee and bottles of water and slippers. Breakfast was good and the best part was having it outside overlooking the square. Will definitely choose it again when visiting Venice!

CanadaI wouldn’t change a thing.
Charming and so Venetian in decor. The location was ideal and only 7 minute walk to major sights. The breakfast was substantial and beautifully presented with care. Claudia at the desk was ever so helpful with booking water taxis and making our stay delightful.

PolandNot a single thing wrong with this place.
Where do I start. The rooms beautifully functional, glamorous and cozy. On the small side, but it is a historical building. Breakfasts nutricious and varied. But the real value and highlight of the hotel is the staff. They will pamper you, show you routes, survive your lame attempts at learning Italian with the patience that is only seen in kindergarten teachers. Romina, Annaliza, Klaudia, Lilia, Lily and Marco will make you feellike you're visiting your long lost family. I will quote the Terminator: I'll be back. So will Joanna.

Loved this little hotel. All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, they could not do enough for us. The room was clean, very comfortable and very quiet. Breakfast was charming, with a plentiful buffet laid out in the gorgeous little dining room. Tables are set up outside on the square, where you can take a leisurely breakfast and quietly watch the square come to life. The hotel is situated right on the Campo Santo Stefano, a lovely little square with many restaurants and cafes. Also worth noting that it's a short walk from the waterbus stop to the hotel and likewise, a short walk to Piazza San Marco and other attractions. I'd say it's a perfect location.

The staff were lovely and welcoming, the location was fantastic, the bedroom beautiful and well maintained, very clean, and extremely comfy beds. We were so sad to go, staying in this hotel was a real highlight in our trip to Venice (and that’s saying something because Venice is beautiful) and we will definitely be back.
