This was one of those “hidden gems” that we were lucky enough to find. An old beautiful villa that is now a small hotel complete with multiple gardens, patios, sitting areas and a private beach. The experience was more than a place to stay. The staff were remarkable and we were catered too. We had excellent dinners and the breakfast provided was a treat. This was a highlight of our 5 week Greece/Italy trip.

I know this is personal and that breakfasts in Italy often comprise cold meats and cake, but an option of fruit and eggs would have been nice.

A delightful stay at the lovely Villa Spagnola on our first visit to Calabria. The communal areas and the garden have been done beautifully and imaginatively. A big thanks to Martina, Michelle and their friendly staff for making us so welcome. We had imagined we’d be eating out most evenings, but Michelle’s cooking was too compelling! We had a little difficulty finding the villa (the Sat Nav was not altogether helpful) so you need written instructions for the last bit.

If one doesn’t have a car, you are reliant on being taken hither and thither. There is absolutely no public transport nearby.

It w s like staying at a friends’ private house. Dotted with unusual and beautiful antiques, but also homely. The small beautiful beach is only 1 minute walk.

The wifi was a little flaky.

My wife and I have been travelling across southern Italy for the past 3 weeks and stayed at numerous b&bs and this is by far the best place that we've stayed at. We were treated extremely well by the host and staff. We enjoyed breakfast each morning and had an amazing dinner cooked by our host, Michelle, that included an amazing seafood risotto, grilled vegetables, assorted grilled fish and seafood as well as homemade wine and olives. We regret not eating there every evening! The views from the property are amazing as well as the private beach. We would definitely go back!

The rooms are small (typical in Italy) but might provide more space if some of the bulkier antique furnishings were removed.

The grounds are incredible, including the private beach! And the cooking was amazing! Dinner every night was unquestionably the best we’d experienced in the area and that was saying a lot. Michele and Martina, the owners, extended us every courtesy, making this our most memorable stay in a month of traveling southern Italy. we can highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful stay complemented by excellent service and awesome food!
