How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe owner who runs the hotel is very kind and helpful and the service staff were great. The hotel was very clean and the parking was very helpful. I was travelling after beach season and they were still very accommodating with breakfast etc. The location is super convenient for the beach, but it's a bit far from the ruins and open restaurants in the off season, I'd suggest having a car or taking a cab.
The bathroom in my unit needed some repairs, there was flooding when I used the shower. It wasn't a problem really but it did seem like it needed some maintenance. I also felt that it was a bit strange that the owner wanted to keep the keys at the desk and have us collect them every time we come and go, It felt a bit like being a guest in a house versus staying in a hotel which some people may enjoy but I was a bit caught off guard by that.

Verified reviewI don't even know where to begin – the service at Hotel Poseidonia Mare is simply outstanding. From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the warmth and kindness of the staff. The hotel is impeccably clean, and every detail seems to be taken care of with love and attention. I almost get teary-eyed whenever it's time to leave because it feels like saying goodbye to family. Alessandro, the hotel director went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. He even drove me to post a letter to France, which was such a thoughtful gesture. It’s these little acts of kindness that make this hotel truly special. The breakfast was exceptional, offering everything I could possibly want. Every morning, I was greeted with a variety of fresh and delicious food that left me feeling full and satisfied. The meals throughout the day were also fantastic – generous portions, rich flavors, and cooked to perfection. What truly sets Hotel Poseidonia Mare apart is the heart and passion the staff put into their work. Every interaction is filled with warmth, and it’s clear that they genuinely care about making each guest's stay as pleasant as possible. It’s a place I never want to leave, and I’m already planning to come back. Thank you so much for making my stay unbelievably pleasant and memorable. I couldn’t have asked for more! I'm very grateful 🙏

Verified reviewWe loved the cleanliness, location, and especially the friendly, personal service provided by Alessandro and the staff. The place was spotless. Alessandro and the staff went above and beyond, even driving us to the train station at the end of our stay at no charge, saving us 18 euros. The breakfast was abundant and delicious with fresh buffalo mozzarella and ricotta, bacon and eggs, fresh bread and pastries and fruit. We were just a couple hundred yards from the wide, sandy beach, which we had pretty much to ourselves because the season had just ended. It was an excellent choice.
The room we chose was one of the standard rooms with 2 twin beds, which were pretty small for us tall Americans, but they were comfortable. We did not realize that most of the small beach town would be closed due to the season ending so choices for dinner were very limited. The restaurant at the hotel, which is highly reviewed for its local cuisine, was closed.

Verified reviewAbsolutely fantastic family-run hotel. Close to the beach and nearby restaurants and in walking distance of the antique city of Paestum. Pompei and the Amalfi coat can be reached by train easily. The staff was very friendly and helpful and even invited us to dinner at the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Verified reviewGreat staff, location and parking. Breakfast buffet was nice. The room was really warm when we got there but called the front desk and they had to turn on the air conditioning since it was before the time they usually use it in the season.
The shower doors leaked.

Verified reviewBecause the holiday season had not really begun, we were the only guests for most of the time and nearby restaurants/bars were closed. It's a great location, close to the beach and it was about a 30 minute walk into Paestum which had nice restaurants/bars. All the staff and particularly Fabio were very helpful and welcoming. Our room was comfortable enough. The gift of a bottle of wine on our departure was a pleasant surprise and much appreciated, and enjoyed!
I didn't dislike anything about the hotel. The decor in our bedroom was somewhat dated but the room was very clean.

Verified reviewThis family-run hotel is in the tiny hamlet of Capaccio, a 25-min walk to the very impressive Greek temples of Paestum. This ancient city (must-see for archeological fans) is off the beaten path even if just a 1 hr. 40 min. train ride south of tourist-overrun Pompei. The hotel is only 200 meters from a lovely, uncrowded beach that stretches for more than 20 km. Close by are beach bars where you can rent umbrellas or order a cocktail, gaze at the Tyrrhenian Sea and ponder what it was like to live here 2,500 years ago. I walked from the Paestum train station with my luggage and arrived prior to check-in time. Fabio and Alessandro greeted me warmly and offered me a cappuccino at the hotel bar while I waited. My room (Nr. 120) was very clean, spacious and included a double-bed, desk, a fridge filled with water and a terrace overlooking the back courtyard of the hotel. (With the terrace door open, one can hear the waves rolling onto the beach.) A fold-up metal stand was available to hang up wet clothes although it was too cold to swim in mid-April. The hotel is in a quiet location and located just a few steps from restaurants. The signal from the free wi-fi was strong – good for digital nomads. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, with fresh fruit, typical pastries and dairy products from a local producer. The staff was also happy to meet any special requests. As a bonus, there are basic bikes (no gears) available to ride to the archeological park (ask for more air in the tires). On my last morning, the owner even taxied me to the station so I would catch my train – a nice personal touch!
Honestly, there weren’t many negatives. The shower cabin was a bit cramped and it wasn’t possible to set the temperature in the room – just heating/air conditioning on or off. In terms of managing expectations, this is not a luxury hotel. But all the pluses mentioned above and the excellent service translates into very good value for money beyond the designated three stars.
