How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewPierluigi and Alessandra were exceptional hosts, welcoming, generous, and very helpful. Pierluigi drove us into Orvieto the first evening so that we could get our bearings and not have to drive back in the dark on our first night -- very much appreciated! The house is large and comfortable, situated in a farm but with easy access to Orvieto, either via a steep 1 km walk to the city walls, or a 3-minute drive to a very convenient parking lot with elevator access to the city. We loved spending the day sightseeing in and around Orvieto, and then coming back in the late afternoon to the peaceful house amidst olive trees, fruit trees, chickens. Our hosts were so generous with multiple gifts; when we arrived, we found everything we needed for the first day (all basic kitchen provisions plus milk, fruit, pasta, homemade tomato sauce, their own olive oil, biscotti, etc. etc....) and frequently during our stay, one or the other of our hosts would stop by with some eggs freshly laid by their chickens, or a bottle of homemade jam... We stayed nine nights, but it was not enough!! We very much hope to visit again.
We had some problems with unreliable Internet access. Sometimes Internet service worked fine, but then suddenly stopped working. It was not a major issue for us, but somewhat inconvenient.
Thank you for the beautiful words marking the review of our lovely guests. Exceptional guests, communicative and with a strong sense of irony. Great empathy with them. We are sorry for the inconvenience with the internet but not dependent on our will but problems with the provision of service by the telephone operator.

Verified reviewA lovely house very convenient for Orvieto, but in peaceful countryside. Extremely well equipped. Delightful owners - lots of useful advice about places to visit, parking etc, and we really appreciated their thoughtful gifts of fruit and homemade produce.
Christopher and his wife were perfect hosts, very communicative, friendly, extremely sociable and attentive to the environment. Respectful of shared spaces and the rules of the house, left in perfect order. They will always be welcome when they want to return.

Verified reviewWhat a lovely spacious house with all amenities needed. You get loads of privacy and the private use of the pool was a lifesaver in the very hot weather we had in the week we were there. Its a very short drive into Orvieto and there are loads of interesting places to visit within 30mins driving. The hosts are always present when you need them, but invisible when you want privacy. They gave us fresh eggs and tomatoes. And we were welcome to help ourselves to fruit from the trees or veggies from the garden. We had such a lovely time!
Very private family, sensitive to privacy, respectful of house rules and surroundings. They will be welcome if and when they wish.

Verified reviewBeautiful rural property and welcoming, generous hosts. Located just out of Orvieto so we were able to have a hire car and tour the surrounding wineries and towns. Cottage had everything we needed for an exceptional stay.
Precise guests left the house in perfect order. The house rules were perfectly respected and so was the outside environment.

Verified reviewThe Chiodi family hosted my daughter and myself for our week-long stay in Orvieto. They were charming and generous hosts. If, as I hope, we return to Orvieto next year we would certainly seek them out again.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay here. The owners were lovely & generous with fruits & vegetables grown right there & some homemade tomato sauce. The apartment was spacious, comfortable & quiet. It was a short drive into Orvieto so it was very convenient for sightseeing but so peaceful. There was one hiccup as the refrigerator stopped working in the apartment during our stay. The owners immediately tried to fix it & offered to let us use their refrigerator. These things happen & I wouldn’t mention it except that it does show the owners quick response & willingness to do everything possible to resolve it.
Mosquitoes, but if you bring mosquito spray like we did, you can enjoy some lovely walks around their property.
Thank you for your review. We look forward to seeing you again. An affectionate embrace from Orvieto.
