How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Verified reviewGreat location along one of the main streets in the town. Also, the property was only a short walk to the bus and train station. Suite was spacious and clean. Perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. The hosts were very genuine and wanted to ensure the stay was comfortable. When it was time to check out they arranged transportation to the airport which I greatly appreciated.
A little noisy at times from neighbors in the early morning. Hard to control outside noise.

Verified reviewI loved my stay with Manon and Charlie. They were both so welcoming, and I loved how the guests all had breakfast together in the morning. As a solo traveler, it was great to meet other like-minded guests and say hi when I bumped into them around town. My room was amazing, truly better than I expected, from the amazing-smelling body wash to the furniture. Every detail was intentional. Thank you for coordinating my travel, too!

They provide a personal connection that made you feel so welcome and at home, a refreshing change on a vacation where social interaction with staff at hotels and restaurants is so transient. Interesting conversation with these sophisticated hosts at breakfast made for a memorable experience. The lovely breakfast was personally prepared and presented by the hosts. The newly renovated Palazzo and sunny room was huge and bright with three large windows, good A/C, modern bathroom, large shower, good lighting at nighttime and shutters that block the early morning sun to allow you to sleep in. Overall it was a wonderful experience that elevated our stay in Lecce to one of the highlights of our trip to Puglia.

Verified reviewBreakfast spent with the hosts was an absolute highlight - I was glad they are a traditional “bnb”. The air conditioning was excellent. The rooftop is absolutely stunning and makes for a lovely evening or night watching the sunset and people below. The room itself was wonderfully appointed, and the bed was very comfortable.
Some small improvements like conditioner and other toiletries (iron + ironing board) would be useful, otherwise there isn’t much that could be improved.

In a private house, as is the case here at «B&B Palazzo Charlie», you do not expect to have an iron and an ironing board in each room, do you? We don’t either. Had you, however, asked, we could have made these available to you. We do not provide shampoo, hair conditioner, etc. as it is ecologically very harmful to produce much waste with small bottles, tubes, etc. and again «B&B Palazzo Charlie» is not a hotel. If you need a collection of toiletries you need to go in a hotel and pay a lot more for the room. We prefer to offer organic soap und shower gel and a high quality hair dryer and you choose how you want to treat your hair. Kind regards, Manon

A message from the host indicated we would be able to drop off luggage between 11-12 a.m. so we got an early train. We arrived at the time stated, waited outside for 45 minutes, calling, ringing the bell and sending messages. To no avail. We wound up having to pay 30 euros to store our bags several blocks away until we were able to check in, which did detract from the value of the stay and changed the trajectory of our only day in Lecce a bit. Also: flat, uncomfortable pillows, and no TV in the large living area. I would also suggest adding hair conditioner in the bathroom.
Dear Mrs. Jodi, you booked at 6:49 the day of your arrival – at 9:03 you sent us a message saying that you wanted to check-in your luggage at around 11:00. As we serve breakfast from 9:00 onwards and then organise check-outs we did not see your message and we sincerely apologize for this unfortunate coincidence. What you call “flat, uncomfortable pillows” are memory pillows, that our guests appreciated very much so far – so we will not change them. We have other pillows on request as mentioned on Booking.com. We indeed do not have TV in the rooms, also because the vast majority of our guests travel with their own devices – so no changes are to be expected in this regard. With comparable quality and rating you will for sure get hair conditioner in a hotel, but the costs for a hotel room will be a lot higher than a Suite in the “B&B Palazzo Charlie”. If you want to pay the extra price of a hotel room to have a hair conditioner, please feel free to do so – we prefer to offer our guests a better price. Finally, we would have appreciated if you had paid the tourist tax like anyone else instead of secretely leaving the house the next morning. Best regards Manon
