Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt wasn’t a big deal but you should bring your own soap and shampoo/conditioner.
Beautiful setting, friendly staff, easy parking, restaurants right at the castle, the beach right next to the castle is a free beach but not far down are the rentable loungers. I also liked the common room with coffee and vending machines.

United KingdomAs a base for a couple of nights perfect. Santa Severa was ‘closed’ and in some parts needs a lot of TLC. Not much to do in mid April.
Magnificent location right next to the sea. The castle is amazing and great history. You get to go around the museum. Fascinating history. The hostel accommodation is excellent for the price. Clean and my single room was a great size with en-suite bathroom. The communal area is lovely - just be prepared to bring food and drink as local facilities are almost nonexistent specially in the evening. Ample cooking facilities. A car is essential if you want to travel further afield or get provisions although I travelled by train from Rome airport and walked from the station to the castle no problem. With my back pack. And I’m 74years old!!

CroatiaRoom walls are thin and not very soundproof. That being said, in the morning there was a lot of noise coming from the staff who gathered at reception, talked and laughed. Also in the morning, all the workers from the castle and museums were using the same kitchen. I was the only guest so it felt a bit weird although they were all kind to me. I think it would add more to the charm of the place if they had their own kitchen part. This makes it feel more like a hostel but overall very special place and good value for money.
The location is stunning, room was spacious, comfortable and clean. I like the fact they don’t provide soaps in little plastic containers due to environmental reasons but I guess some bigger fixed soap containers would be nice. There’s big parking and common area with a kitchen. However, there’s no kitchenware… This hotel has a lot of potential if a few details would be improved. Everyone was kind and friendly.

SlovakiaEating and drinking is prohibited in the rooms, so it made our stay little bit uncomfortable beacause we could not use the balcony for breakfasts or dinners, but the property offers you a shared equipped room where you can eat, cook and buy coffee or snacks.
Magical place, the views, location and the castle itself were amazing. If you want something lowcost but beautiful at once, this is for you. We were there off season so there was almost nobody. Additionally, in the castle area, cats have their own little castle, which is a very cute detail. :)

United KingdomNothing I didn't like. It was a unique experience.
The hotel is part of an old castle by the sea. Only accessible really if you have a car. Security was very nice and allowed us to drive up to the hoyel with our many bags. Normally you would have quite a walk from the parking lot.

LatviaIm very thankful to Ostello del Castello staff that we had a room where to stay, because - my fault was that I booked the stay here one night later then we needed to, I mixed up my dates. And I have my daughter with me so I was sad. Sure I didnt get my see view room because of my own fault, but they took care of me. It was a bit too loud cause of the wedding happening own in the hall. There was no shampoo in shover. They have kitchen to use microv=wave, but no electric water kettle... there was vending machines with hot drinks (I dont recommend them) and snacks. We came to here by feel from Santa Severa train station- excellent location and beautiful beach next to castle.

New ZealandNoise did travel a bit as rooms are built in part of the hallway with partition walls. Thankfully not many guests and the ones that were there were quiet too.
Whats not to like about staying in a castle on the seashore!! Fantastic historical information available about the castle and its past inhabitants. Museums on site and guests get a discount. Staff were nice and to my surprise the rooms were serviced. I was not expecting that. Quiet little township to visit. Peaceful place.

United KingdomShower was a little out of control, making the bathroom floor a bit wet! No bathroom amenities at all but we were warned - just remember to take some with you.
Fantastic to stay in such an historic building & great to see it being used and raising money to maintain it. Our room has wonderful views over the sea. It is not luxurious but it is billed as a hostel so met expectations. Great castle museum onsite and easy to walk to a fabulous fish restaurant on the beach for dinner - can highly recommend it!
