We felt there was a disconnect between the charm of the property and the level of service. For a four-star hotel, it was disappointing that no one offered assistance with our four suitcases upon arrival or departure — something we would expect as a basic standard (and often even experienced with Airbnb hosts). While the reception team was pleasant and welcoming, the rest of the staff generally seemed disengaged, almost as if it was a burden to assist guests. This left us feeling less cared for than at other masserias in the region. Additionally, breakfast was quite limited compared to other stays we’ve had in Puglia. A bit more variety and attention to detail would go a long way in elevating the experience. Overall, the property itself is beautiful and well-located, but the service and hospitality need improvement to match the standard of a Masseria at this price point.

Masseria Santo Scalone is a lovely property in Ostuni. We travel to Puglia regularly and decided to try a new masseria on this trip. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is excellent, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The location is also fantastic, just a short drive from Ostuni’s old town.

Pool service/snack and pool side menu could be improved. After dinner/lounge area could be better utilised. Would also have loved some kind of tour of the grounds/utilisation of them like bikes or a running route or similar.

Loved the room, so beautifully decorated and an amazing size. Cool and comfortable, the bed was 10/10. Really impressed by the toiletries all being Ortigia! Breakfast was delicious and generous. The grounds are stunning, staff friendly, food in the restaurant was lovely with a great wine list.

We couldn’t enjoy the pool on the following day because there was a wedding and they told us to leave at 11 when we checked out. I don’t see why we couldn’t stay since we weren’t bothering anyone by just sitting at the pool for a few hours. In any case, it would have been nice to know this when we booked so we could change our plans as our idea had been to relax a bit by the pool that day. Would have rather then just gone on to our next destination directly since the whole point was to relax on the way there. Also the restaurant was ok, but not great and you would expect something better when paying to stay in this kind of place.

There was no power for most of one day due to works in the local area - meaning no running water or electricity. A little annoying but not the hotel’s fault of course.

This hotel was amazing. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. The location was stunning - near beautiful Ostuni but tucked away in the countryside. Also the farm make their own olive oil from their olive trees and marmalade from their orange and lemon trees! The pool was so relaxing and the decor of the hotel was really lovely. Everything was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was also amazing, with a new menu every day. The place never felt busy or crowded, it was a peaceful haven. I would 100% recommend.

Poor wifi, no long mirror in the suite , no porter service nor wheelbarrow to transport suitcases, breakfast was basic , room doors and keys were difficult to operate and there were many mosquitoes.

Would be nice to have had someone always attending the bar in the hour before dinner starts at 19:30. The sinks in the bathroom are very stylish but not very good at holding water as it seeps away through the plug!

The Masseria is a very high quality establishment and ticked all of our boxes. Very peaceful and tranquil with excellent facilities. It’s a few km outside Ostuni but we found this to be a great base for day trips to the surrounding attractions. Very comfortable room, bed and bathroom were lovely. Clean and well maintained property. Lovely pool area Fantastic breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Great restaurant with a different menu every night. Loved our stay.

The rooms miss a floor heating and they are not well isolated from the outside temperatures. All the doors of the Hotel, Lobby area, dinner area, let a small draft of air from the outside in. Before Checkout, we also had some issues with the Water, as they were doing maintenance work on their water supply just at the time that we wanted to shower.

The Masseria was beautifuly located within the Olive Yards of Puglia, near Carovigno and Ostuni. The rooms are very nicely kept in a chick retro style. The food Restaurant serves is very good and they are generous with the portions. We had a full 5 course Menu for the Silvester dinner. What was really great was, that they could adapt easily to our dietary needs. There is a special mention that the Staff was super nice and very helpful. Don’t forget to roam around the Limetree Gardens and under the Olive trees to have a unforgetable experience.

We liked everything!

A beautiful property skillfully created from an ancient massaria. Decor was upmarket Italian design with a pretty seating area in the main building and a particularly lovely and spacious bedroom with a very well designed bathroom. Super bathroom products and a really good espresso machine completed the well thought out extras. The on site restaurant was well priced & very good . Although it was too cold for us to sit outside their pretty well planted patios are furnished with very comfortable looking furniture. There’s plenty of secure private parking on site. A special mention goes out for the 2 reception ladies and young man who looked after us in the restaurant - all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you!
