Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIt can be loud, as you hear other rooms better than in a normal hotel; otherwise, everything is fine.
It is centrally located, just in front of the university. It is a flat with several rooms, and there is no reception or breakfast, but for me it was fine. Every room has a toilet and shower, everything is clean.

GreeceIt was difficult to find it because outside of the building they don’t have anything that says that it’s inside. I was calling the phone number that they gave me many times and anyone was answering. I thought that I would stay outside and I was panicked. But in the end all good we entered.

Great location-just in front of the building of Parma University. 5-15 mins by walking to the main city attractions, 17 mins to train/bus station by walking. Clean and cosy styled room, small but very tidy private bathroom with a small window (the only window in a room, but still its appreciated). Tea and sugar were provided in a common area (+teapot, refrigerator and micro-oven)

The room is in an appartement in a very old building in the old part of Parma. Very close to everything. It is simple but very clean. Just to spend the day outside and sleep in the room. Bathroom was also OK and clean. Bed was good. OK for a shorter stay. Organisation was good - I got quickly answers to my questions. It is not far away from the station - 2 bus stations (number 8 and I think 12 and 2. The bus stops in the main-shopping street and it is only 2 minutes away).

ItalyMaison Sarraj is located on the third floor of an old building in the historical downtown of Parma. There is no elevator, which was not a problem at all for me, as I was travelling with a backpack only, but it could be if one's travelling with heavy luggage, for example. Anyway, the absence of an elevator is well-specified in the venue's description on Booking. What I didn't like was that walls are very thin, so you can hear everything that happens in the next room. There were some kids doing a lot of mess in the room next to mine (screaming, laughing out loud, watching TV at high volume), so I could not rest well. Also, bathroom in my room had a door with glasses, and the bathroom's window was equipped with a small curtain only. In the early morning I had blinding white light directly on my face in bed.
Location is awesome, directly in front of the University, in a very nice and characteristic street of Parma's historical downtown. Typical restaurants are just round the corner, and most of the main attractions (main street with shops, cathedral, baptistery, theatres, etc.) are reachable by foot in a few minutes. Train station is no more than a twenty-minute walk away. Check-in and assistance from the reception are performed remotely through the Booking.com app. It works pretty good: for example, I had an issue with the heating, and was immediately assisted with a reply to my message, instructing me how to operate the air conditioner.

United KingdomLots of steps! You need to be able to make phone/SMS on arrival to get information on how to get into the building/room in the first place - not very convenient.
It's up on the third floor (no lift!) so quiet. Perfectly adequate, for the price I don't expect more. Location is the best thing, 50m from Pi. Garibaldi.

ItalyThe room is filled with an unpleasant odor, and even opening the windows doesn’t help, making it difficult for me to sleep. The facilities are outdated, and the bed linens and towels feel like they’ve been used for many years, with a rough texture to the touch.

KyrgyzstanThe description “room with private bathroom “ is totally delusional. To reach your “private” bathroom you will have to leave your room, then apartment and go to the staircase area. The owner asks to leave windows open before check out but it doesn’t really help, there stays a bad smell in room anyway.
Location was very good, only 15 minutes walk from train station. Room was nice and clean. Room was clean and towels were fresh. Self check in was easy and owner was always on touch.

ItalyBathroom with hole in the wall and a sign saying it was ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED to flush toilet paper. There was a window in the bathroom that would not close, so I called the property. They told me to close the two halves together, which I did, but the latch was so worn that you couldn't latch it. When I told the property manager this, he said he wasn't in Parma and wouldn't be for a couple of hours and so I would have to wait. I said that I wasn't willing to wait around with my luggage for hours and asked for a refund so that I could go to another hotel. He refused, kept all of my money, and then tried to tell Booking that I didn't show up (I guess so I couldn't leave a review?)
Relatively central
