Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesLots of steps. If you can’t do steps this probably isn’t your place. The up side: you earn a beautiful view with those steps.
The view was fabulous and the air conditioning so appreciated!

IrelandJust need a parasol for the roof top balcony as there is no shade from the sun.
View from the roof top balcony wonderful, location made it easy to discover Varenna and connect by ferry to surrounding attractions.

United KingdomNothing it was amazing one thing to note is it’s up a fair few stairs so if you can’t walk up stairs this isn’t for you but if you can the view from the place is worth it - just be careful if carrying heavy case
The terrace is phenomenal views are some of the best I’ve seen, new and modern inside 2 decent size bathrooms and lots of privacy

FinlandThe apartment is absolutely lovely. But BEWARE: YOU MUST CHECK IN BETWEEN 15-18 OR FACE A PENALTY OF 50 EUROS. This is not made clear on Booking.com but only on the email you receive when it is impossible for most people to do anything about it. I was already in the area so I avoided the fine, but it set a tone to my visit: "we only care about money and are willing to rip you off any way we can". As the rent paid wasn't high enough already. The terrace is amazing, but very hot if the sun is shining. For the price paid and all the additional money made from late arrivals you'd think they could set up a parasole or two? There were ants indoors. No microwave. The sofa in the living room can sleep an extra person. The bed itself is not comfortable, after a couple of nights I got severe back pain (which is very rare). There was an espresso machine, but only a few capsules. The shops nearby didn't sell them. I asked the rental agency where I could find more and I was told to travel to a nearby town to see if they might have them. Umm, no. Takes two hours on foot and because of ferry schedules, about the same by ferry. If you happen to have a car and you have managed to find a parking spot (any spot, free or paid) you don't want to give it up because you will not find another one during the day and you will probably have to park 30-60 mins away from Varenna (the rental agency will not help you to find one). So you will not want to spend your whole day shopping for capsules that may or may not be sold anywhere. Either provide enough capsules to begin with or sell them, I would have been happy to pay any ridiculous extra fee to have more. Or just get rid of the machine, now it is just another reminder that it is all about appearances and not about making guests' comfortable.
This would definitely be 10/10 if it wasn't for the things mentioned, biggest being the "late" arrival rip off as a welcoming message.

United StatesWe didn’t mind the steps- after all you are in Varenna -but one has to be able go up skinny ones up to the terrace within the apartment. One needs to be careful. For reference :We are fit 65 year olds.
The view from the terrance was wonderful in the evenings. We ate two of the three nights in to enjoy the view. It was a unique floor plan that added to its charm. Air conditioning worked well , it was spotless and the staff was great to work with. We would happily stay there again.

CanadaWe stayed at La Terrazza di Marta in early May and were fortunate to have sunny weather with comfortable temperatures around 15-17C. The roof top terrace was beautiful, but it is in full sun by afternoon making it uncomfortable to use during hot weather. An umbrella would be a great addition for shade, but might not be practical if it was windy.
We had a lovely 3-night stay at La Terrazza di Marta in the charming town of Varenna. The apartment building is located at the end of a narrow alley way just a few steps away from Varenna Holidays' reception office on Via Venini. As previous travelers have noted, you will have to climb 67 stairs from Via Venini (a combination of stone and concrete stairs) to reach the front entrance of the apartment which is located on the third floor. Varenna Holidays also has two other apartments in the building which you will walk past on your climb up the building's exterior staircase (Little Nest Flat - 1st floor and Il Giardino di Alice - 2nd floor). La Terrazza di Marta was beautifully updated and has the best views of the three apartments in the building. The roof top terrace offers stunning views of the lake and mountains. There is also a small bistro table and two chairs on the balcony next to the front door if you don't want to carry your coffee or wine upstairs to the terrace. The apartment was well-equipped with hotel-sized bathroom products (shampoo/conditioner, shower gel, soap) as well as dishwashing liquid in the kitchen. Everything we needed for our 3-night stay! We didn't cook any meals while we were there, but the kitchen appeared to be well equipped with a good selection of pots and pans and even olive oil and salt and pepper. There are a few small stores just a few minutes walk away where you can pick up some basic groceries (La Bottega di Varenna at Via Venini 6 and Macelleria Salumeria Lillia at Via 4 Novembre 2). Check out Lake Bakery (Via 4 Novembre 4) for homemade desserts and takeout sandwiches, focaccia, wine and the locals' hangout Al Barilott (Via 4 Novembre 6) for great panini sandwiches. Varenna Holidays' staff was quick to respond to our e-mails leading up to our arrival and very helpful upon check in.

United KingdomI knew there was a lot of steps up to the top of the apartment as mentioned in the description but i underestimated what a climb it was to be honest , so i would definitely not stay there again as we all found it a bit much to be honest . There was 3 of us staying in the apartment & realised that there wasn’t really anywhere for the third person to put their clothes etc , just had to squeeze their items in the one wardrobe in the bedroom which was a very tall wardrobe but not enough hangers for all our clothes . Also we had an army of ants on day 2 which appeared beside the bathroom at the apartment door which they ended up in one of our cases which was lying there open so word of advice , do not leave any cases lying open . But we contacted the staff & it was quickly dealt with by putting down traps for them they successfully killed them quite quickly so no harm done , just not very nice that’s all.
The roof terrace was the main attraction for me booking the property . It was lovely to sit out on when the sun was out , unfortunately that was only 2 days of my 4 day trip to Varenna . Beautiful view on to lake como . The apartment was very nice & modern & clean. Lovely bathrooms with good pressure showers & plenty unit space for our toiletries .
