Amazing Roccia suite - huge, beautifully decorated, with a kitchenette. Private terrace with a stunning view of the Sassi on one side and the Gravina gorge and ancient caves on the other. Super friendly staff, breakfast was top notch and laid out on our terrace, couldn’t ask for anything more! Very short walk to the Sassi line bus stop, which is in the Piazza San Pietro Caveoso. (We parked at Parcheggio Via Saragat, and took the bus in).

Super property, very clean, excellent location, very friendly service! AC was excellent in July! Water bottles complimentary with some drinks for purchase. Breakfast was cooked to order with many choices and they served it on our balcony—such a bonus! Loved our private balcony that came with the end unit—La Roccia suite—overlooking the amazing views of the Sassi.

No one with common sense would find anything to dislike in this hotel

This hotel is a dream. The location is possibly the best in Matera as it sits mid of the peak overlooking the best square and has the best view of Matera on the left and the canyon on the right. No other hotel has this view, which will be the background of your terrace breakfast. The room in the grotto was to die for. Besides the size it is furnished perfectly and has all the amenities you need. Breakfast was great with all fresh local ingredients and the staff was kind and welcoming. If you want to see the real Matera book here. There are some hotels that on paper may look better as they have more services, but you will end up in the wrong location, while here you will truly be in the best spot, period.

The only sad part was that I had to leave

This was one of the most extraordinary places I've ever stayed in my life! And this B&B is unquestionably in the best location in all of Matera! It is perched at the highest point overlooking St. Peter's square and the entire city. We stayed in the cave suite, which was epic! The moment I saw it, I was wishing I had booked more nights. From our enormous private balcony we had a complete panorama of everything. And the room was gigantic, fun, fantastical, unforgettable. If the spectacular cave room and unbeatable location weren't enough, there was the warm hospitality from Tiziana and Mimmo. Over breakfast, Tiziana explained this property was where Mimmo's mother actually grew up, so the continuity of family history spans the whole history from the government clearing families out through to the current UNCESCO world heritage status. I can't wait to go back!

We loved everything.

Our room was simply breathtaking and it was inside a cave. We looked through our window to see a beautiful church and the mountains. It was such an amazing experience to stay here inside a cave, underneath one of the famous rock churches of Matera. The staff were incredible and their service was outstanding. Breakfast was served on the patio out the front and we felt so special to be having this dream experience. We hope to stay again one day. The location was excellent as the town shuttle bus stopped down in the piazza just below our hotel. Perfect!

Since it’s a natural cave, it’s convenient to open up the windows or turn on the Air conditioning since the cave can get humid during the night. However it’s a unique experience to be inside the cave.

Amazing room, great view from the private terrace, bed and sofa were huge and super comfortable, very nice and helpful hosts, beautiful garden, location was nice and quiet (apart from the stupidly loud wooden bird whistles being sold in the plaza just below us...the guy seems to sell them most of the afternoon so it's not great if you want to go back and relax on the terrace in the afternoon)
