We loved everything.

The location next to the lake with superb views can not be surpassed. We thought we had died and gone to heaven. Also lovely inside with wood panelled walls and a large living area with adjoining bed room. A short walk up to the Piazza or down along the pathway to cafes and restaurants. It was the perfect way to finish a lovely holiday and relax for 6 beautiful days. Waking and retiring at the end of the day overlooking the lake is superb. We were sorry to leave and Oscar made it easy for us by meeting us on the first day and showing us the whereabouts of the place and how things worked inside.

Stairs for an octogenarian were a challenge, but I did manage. Pay attention to Oscar‘s suggestions about parking, as it is at a premium in Varenna!

Wonderful location, on the Lake’s edge, beautiful outlook. I hadn’t realised that the structure of the town of Varenna is such that there are a lot of stairs to get down to the waterfront, which is not a problem if you are at least reasonably fit. There are also internal stairs to get up to the apartment. Our host, Oscar, was charming and extremely helpful, and he carried our main cases down to the house, and up to the apartment for us. He was also very helpful with suggestions of activities to suit our taste. We hit a major public holiday, and so not only were there were a lot of tourists, there were also a lot of Italian people taking a short break. Getting a seat in a restaurant for lunch or for dinner was difficult, and booking ahead would be strongly advised. All in all, we loved our stay here and would highly recommend it. Don’t miss the Villa Monastero which is right next door, lovely house and excellent botanical garden.

Cosy little apartment with incredible lake front views in the very heart of Varenna on a small side street off the main square, 5-10 minutes walk to anywhere in town, 12min walk from the train station or ferry. There is no direct car access to the apartment and getting there includes climbing some stairs, which is the case for most stays in Varenna. Since it was raining during my entire stay I did not get to enjoy the balcony overlooking the lake watching sunsets, moody atmosphere was enchanting non the less. The balcony is perfect to enjoy a glass of wine listening to serene waters of the lake. Note that there are no wine glasses available at the apartment though, but it is well equipped with cookware, plates, stovetop in case you would like to prep your own dinners. La Bottega di Varenna is a mini family own grocery shop that has grocery essentials.

Location is amazing. The view is incredible, and we went for a swim every day at the beach downstairs. Great cafes within walking distance but also a couple of grocers/salumerias where you can grab necessities (prosecco and cured meat). For a couple, this is absolutely amazing.

We would have liked at least one comfortable chair to relax in (although space is limited, there would be room for one), as the only chairs were hard.

Since there was so much rain the steep. cobblestone streets were slippery. One must be mindful of getting luggage up the steep streets.

There were rainy days but it was beautiful to be lakeside to watch the rain and the ever changing clouds and waterfowl swim by. Sunny days were spectacular.

I only wish it had air conditioning and we could open the windows during storms. The large fan was a great help and most of the time the windows could he open to allow for wonderful breezes.

The apartment had a great location and view - right on the lake. Oscar the host was kind and generous - making sure we had everything we needed including a taxi to and from the train station.

Very steep stairs to get suitcase up in the loft. It’s was our bad because we had quite a bit of bulky and heavy luggage.

Amazing location. 30 second walk from kitchen to swimming in lake. Gorgeous little beach to enter lake from literally right next door. It was a quiet location, with a short beautiful walk to the restaurants.
