We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsEverything was perfect!
The property was recently renovated and thus very clean. If you are a germaphobe like me, I truly recommend House Smith. In addition, the property had a splendid view of Scala, Ravello, and the Amalfi coast (especially at night, because you can sit outside their terrace). Lastly, the best part of this stay was the owner. I have never met such a kind lady that gave us advice, helped us through some difficulties with the public transport, and much more. It is crazy how a person can feel like family within such a short stay. Grazie Mille Raffaella <3

AustriaWell everything was wonderful but to reach the Accomodation you have to climb a lot of stairs so either you have to book a cab because the bus will drop you in the city centre and from there it’s a 20 min walk up the stairs. So be careful if you got lots of luggage or someone who has difficulty in climbing stairs! But the Accomodation is worth the climb.
I loved the view from the Accomodation! It was breathtaking. The Apartment was huge and extremely beautiful. The terrace was exceptional, loved it. The best part was the host! She was extremely sweet and lovely, her daughter was very lovely as well! She even brought me food the day I arrived and even gifted me a Chocolate croissant as a departing gift. She was extremely helpful. Made my Italy trip even more beautiful ❤️

This was exceptional experience . From the moment I was greeted by Anna and her beautiful daughter Fredericka to the time I left it was like a I had made a new friend. Kind, caring and sympathetic . Could not do enough for me. The house was beautiful , tastefully decorated , so much space. Light and airy. Absolutely fabulous, glorious really 5star accommodation.Of course the view of the majestic mountains , cascading down to the distant sea was mesmerising. The kitchen had everything you need to prepare your meals. So thoughtful to have this, as some airbnbs have less then the bare minimum. You can always tell when the owner is an exceptional and thoughtful host by what they provide. The upstairs terrace and again the view. It’s like you’re on the top of the world. Bathrooms and kitchen modern with excess towels all amenities . You’re able to do your laundry. Scala has an old world Italian charm where time stands still. Unlike the overcrowded Amalfi coastline. It’s where generations of families have lived. Still working the terraced steep land with there mules and hard labour. Shouldering the hessian sacks of potatoes, walking back from there garden allotments with the food for the day, freshly picked. I have to say an incredibly special place that I will definitely return to. I would not stay anyway else then this stunning property Owned by the beautiful Anna and her loving family. Grazie Millie

CanadaWe had the best time staying at House Smith in Scala—it honestly felt like we were visiting family rather than staying in an airbnb. The host was incredibly kind and thoughtful from the very start. She picked us up from the center of town, took us to the store so we could grab essentials, and made sure we had all the info we needed to get around. She even gave us the contact info for a reliable taxi driver and pizzeria and personally showed us where to catch the busses into amalfi. One morning, she brought us breakfast, which was such a sweet surprise, and we even got to meet her family—they were all so warm and welcoming. The house itself was beautiful and super comfortable, with the most incredible views. It was peaceful, spotless, and had everything we needed.

ItalyNothing. Every aspect exceeded my expectations!
First off, the hosts were amazing! They met me at the house at check-in and gave me a full tour! They explained all of the extra amenities they offered (wine/beer), local restaurants, and attractions in the area. They were very helpful answering questions about some of the plans I had for my weekend and gave great advice! I highly recommended staying at House Smith, and I will be back! Thanks for a pleasant weekend!!!

BelgiumThat we stayed there only 3 nights. Definitely a place for a longer stay to enjoy the view, slow life and incredible terrace.
We were travelling by car and this location is the best option if you don't like touristic spots and want to experience the real Italy. The terrace and the views from this apartment are just WOW. The warm welcome from Raffaella was what we needed after a long drive - we at once felt like at home! Moreover, Raffaella gave us some local products for our breakfast next morning and that was very sweet. She explained everything about the location, showed us how to get by car to the nearest spots, recommended the best pizza-place in Ravello. Car is a must-have, but we also once took a bus to the coast - it was totally ok too. We visited Atrani, did a hike to the waterfall, spent a day in Ravello and went to Lido di Ravello. Dinners on the terrace with a view were perfect. Perfect host, beautiful location, new and clean apartment with everything you need. On our way back we also pass by the shop of Raffaella and bought some local tasty food (oil, pasta, cheese, pesto etc) - great souvenirs. Looking forward to go back to House Smith!

UkraineIf any minor problems arose, they were easily and quickly resolved thanks to the host.
Very good host, despite the fact that Raffaella almost doesn't speak English, we found a common language. It is the twenty-first century after all 😅. She helped us get to the place and in every possible way helped us figure out everything in the house and in the surrounding area, spending a lot of her personal time. Huge thanks to Raffaella. The house looks new, beautiful, neat, clean, with a gorgeous view from the window and terrace. The staff is excellent, the beds are wide, the kitchen has everything you need and even more. Frankly, we have never met such a welcoming host and such a prepared home. The location, on the one hand, is simply excellent, because it offers an incredible, picturesque view, and on the other hand, it can be a little difficult from a point of view to get somewhere. For us, this was not a problem, because we love to walk a lot and hike. From the apartments to the central square of Scala about 15-20 minutes walk up the steps (about 500 steps) or 25-30 minutes on a serpentine and almost without steps. In the central square there are delicious restaurants and a bus stop from where you can get to Ravello and Amalfi. For us it was an unforgettable vacation and Italy, and the Amalfi Coast and these apartments with an amazing host will remain in our hearts. ❤️

United KingdomNeed a car, or be prepared to walk to the local bus stop or in to Scala. Plenty of information is left about this - bus timetables, pizza and even a food shopping delivery service. Air conditioning had not been reinstalled after redecorations for our stay, but there are neat wall mounted gentle fans which help keep it cool in very hot times (the house is quite cool anyway). As other people say, you cannot drive right up to the door - have to park just a short distance away and walk up a slope and then up some steps. Not a problem for able bodied people. And worth it for the secluded views!
Like new. Wonderful view! Quiet, spacious, modern. Nice touches such as fly/mosquito screen for the terrace doors. Raffaella is a wonderful host with her family, sorting out a parking permit and showing us around. We arrived in Sunday when the shops are shut so she left us some food which was enough for the evening meal and lasted into the next few days. Ravello is just about walkable (depending on the heat). A wonderful private terrace with the best view of Ravello and some of the Amalfi coast.

IrelandWe had the most relaxing and beautiful days in Scala. A quiet and small town close to Amalfi. If you're looking for a reserved and quiet place to stay away from the chaos of the coast, this is the best choice! In the house, every single detail was perfect: the candles, the decor, the toiletries, it made us feel so at home. Raffaela was a dream. She picked us up, brought us back to the bus stop and even gave us some of her own produce food which was DELICIOUS! Even though we didn't speak italian, we could communicate and it was a delightful experience. We definitely want to go back as soon as possible.

United KingdomEverything is good for me I just recommend to have a car or at least you can afford to pay for taxi to drop you the the place as it’s on the top of the mountain so you definitely need a car to visit the other place. The lady was so nice and helpful and she will explain everything to you. She arranged parking for the whole week so was perfect. The flat is so huge and perfect for family too.
So clean and new place and everything is perfect and the mattress is so comfortable as well, nothing to complain about 🤲

House Smith was happy to meet us on arrival and organised a parking voucher with the relevant authorities. Fabulous patio with out door dining. Amazing views form patio and indoor terrace. Indoor terrace was great. Coffee, milk, water and snacks provided. 2 bedrooms each with a King bed. Beds super comfortable. 2 separate shower/toilet bathrooms with great water pressure. Extremely modern, brand new and clean. Host was amazing and extremely accommodating even though English was not her first language. Google translate was a great help. Don't miss this opportunity because of stairs and no parking at front door because it is well worth it.

GhanaThe distance from the house to the main station was a long walk. The closest bus stop didn’t have the bus coming, so we walked mostly to the main Scala station which is a good 25 mins walk. Taxis was expensive and a trip from The station to the house one way was 35 euros
Host was there to meet us

United StatesBuyer Beware- Total RIPOFF! Day 1 no water, we traveled 13 hrs, needed showers and toilets, basic requirements. The host DID NOT respond to texts, phone calls and emails. We vacated the property after 4 hours of no response from host. We had to secure lodging elsewhere, we sent emails indicating this and asked for or our money back minus a nights stay and cleaning. we only stayed 1 night. Several days later the host kept trying to call us, don't know why she can't speak English. Booking.com wrote me and said the host would refund $400 out of $1100 that we spent, all for 1 night stay. Host doesn't speak English and doesn't do well with Google translator. Go elsewhere, the home is on a dead end street, can't even drive a car down it to unload luggage, we had to walk in the rain and haul luggage, its not worth the effort at all. Stay in Amalfie town or some place that is fun, this place sucks and so does the greedy owner who should know that what she did is wrong.
Only good thing about this house was 1.) view, 2. Beds
