What a unique and special apartment experience and (cave) home in the Matera Sassi. The town and that apartment was just breathtaking. Loved it all. For a romantic couples getaway this place, this city, this experience can't be beat.

Nothing. A great experience staying in a ‘cave’ in Matera

Quiet, spacious and clean. Great location. Friendly and helpful host with some fantastic suggestions for things to see and restaurants to eat at. Very comfortable bed! With large bags it’s important to listen to the advice of the host and get a transfer to the apartment. We walked with 2 large wheeled bags and Matera is not a city to wheel bags with all the cobblestones and steps. The transfers to the apartment are affordable, with lots of options.

Emanuele was a great host, really enjoyed his introduction to Matera when we arrived. He provided very good instructions on how to get there, as Matera can be a little difficult navigating. Totally unique experience to stay in a cave…but with all the home comforts added!

Everything has been thought of. Lighting adds to the ambience (so many light switches). Fabulous location for exploring. The coffee machine makes fabulous espresso (once I googled the instructions). Super comfy bed. Great shower. Small kitchen well equipped. Loved it

Emanuel our host was kind to meet us outside of the apartment then gave us a brief intro to Matera’s history, places to see and where to dine. Staying in the cave was a very unique experience. It’s a very comfortable apartment. There are plenty of lights all around the apartment , but since it is a cave, there’s not a lot of natural light coming in so it still tends to be dark. It’s in the Sassi area- we are able to walk to all the historical sites along with plenty of restaurants to dine in. Would definitely stay here again.

Details about how to find the property and where to park for those arriving by car, particularly during ZTL operating hours. There are several Piazza San Pietro’s in Matera and we chose the wrong one initially, which made for a very long walk with suitcases. Our host offered to meet us at Restorante da Nico, which we subsequently discovered is across the street from the Grotta, but this wasn’t clear in the initial communications.

Very sympathetically restored. The lighting, heating and furnishings were excellent and made for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Washing machine was good and clothes dried well on the drying rack. The very central location also meant everything in Matera was very accessible

Exquisitely decorated unit and a lighting designer’s dream. Lovely property situated in a quiet nook inside the glorious historic city of Matera. We stayed for a week and were able to enjoy the numerous selection of delectable restaurants and also used the kitchen to make a couple of home cooked dinners. We hiked across the nearby valley to visit the caves and the Chiesa Sant’Agnese. New town is just a 10 minute walk away.

A bit pricey and the street outside was in the dark side of Sassi.

Beautiful interiors and all the equipments are modern. Staff was very helpful, even gave us a mini tour while we were walking to the apartment.
