Felt that we shouldn’t have to pay for water. With the change in time and altitudes many people, including us, need a lot of water to combat those issues. Also maybe changing the breakfast buffet menu every 2-3 days .

The cost was likely more than it warranted. The property needs modern updates, feels/smells musty. The shuttle system needs improvement with some guests taking spots from those who scheduled.

We like to read sat up on sunbeds but there were only 2 settings, neither one was upright. Only a little thing really but our backs hurt by the pool and at the beach.

Being 2km from Amalfi, we loved the peaceful atmosphere. A free shuttle took us to the private beach or into Amalfi as many times as we needed. There was a lift in the rock, down to the beach. Staff were so very helpful. We tipped at the end. I loved our balcony & the view was amazing. Highly recommended!

The view is the highlight of this hotel, and the pool was great too. They also have a small gym, which is a nice bonus. It’s a bit far from the center, but that doesn’t really matter since they provide free transportation every 15 minutes. The staff were also really great.

However, there are quite a few downsides to mention: First of all, the breakfast – which is disappointing from every point of view. It really needs improvement. It’s extremely poor. Every single day, you get the same cold cuts – just three types – and the same omelette. For a 4-star hotel, you expect much more, especially considering the rather high prices. In such a location, expectations are naturally higher. The toaster is so old it barely works. The rooms are very outdated, the furniture leaves much to be desired, and yet the price is consistently high. I recommend choosing the superior rooms – those are somewhat better. And last but not least: the PLASTIC CUPS you’re served in! Shameful! A 4-star hotel on the Amalfi Coast, and they serve coffee in plastic cups like in a supermarket, and water in the cheapest disposable cups. At the pool, they even brought us beer and a Hugo cocktail in single-use plastic cups. Such a waste of a beautiful view – I didn’t even feel like drinking from them.

The view from this hotel is absolutely breathtaking. It’s simply WOW, in every sense of the word. The view alone is worth a big part of the price. The pool is also beautiful, with an excellent view. But it’s a shame there’s no music, no bar where you can even grab a bottle of water.

Overall could use some updating

The food was great, both breakfast buffet and dinner. The staff (bartender) specifically was amazing. The private beach alone was worth the price of the stay and we didn’t mind having to take the shuttle

Interior and furniture needs urgent modernisation. No power plugs next to beds.

A very well operated hotel in great location with awesome views. While the rooms, restaurant, lobby etc were all a bit outdated and require a proper modernisation, it was still very enjoyable. We would call it an "old charmer". Food and service was very good. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the pool and billiard area a lot. The taxi shuttle to/from beach & town was easy and well organized.

Not walkable to town but there is a van to take you there. I got a newer room, But the control for the A/C had some problems. It did stop twice. They were friendly to reset the electronics, and when it’s working it’s really cold.

The only thing that was uncomfortable for us were the pillows and mattress. Much too hard. The dresser in the room was quite old. The drawers didn't open and close very well. What is really, really missing for this day and age are outlets. There were only two. Not enough with all the devices one has to charge.

The view from our room was outstanding. The room was spacious but in need of TLC in regards to furnishings. The breakfast was very good with a wide variety to choose from. The outside terrace was a lovely space to have breakfast. All of the staff were super helpful although some didn't dominate English well. Even then they were gracious and very pleasant. The pool area was also very pleasant with a great view as well. The fact that they had a shuttle to Amalfi was a wonderful addition to our stay since they are quite a distance from the centre due to all the lovely curvy roads from the top down into town,

The rooms were clean, the view from the balcony was amazing, the pool was perfect. Buffet breakfast with a view was fantastic. Access to the hotel’s private beach was great!

Everything was perfect.

The Grand Hotel Excelsior was amazing, the staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast had lots of choices, the location and views were great. The hotel was very clean had a nice little gym and the bar was a great place to end the evening, the shuttle bus was a major plus for this hotel providing regular services to and from the hotel and was easy to book through the hotel website, on a couple of occasions the shuttle was fully booked but the staff were amazing and laid on an extra shuttle bus to suit. I would definitely stay again!

The hotel is located near the top of the mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Amalfi. While this means it’s not walkable to town, the views more than make up for it and the shuttle service handles transportation well. The rooms are a little dated, but still very clean, comfortable, and well-kept. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would absolutely recommend the Grand Excelsior to anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast!

Our stay at the Grand Excelsior was excellent! The hotel is beautiful, the food was delicious, and the view from our room was absolutely breathtaking — every room includes a balcony with stunning views of the coast. The complimentary shuttle service was incredibly convenient and well-organized, making it easy to get into Amalfi. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to plan your trips around the shuttle schedule, but it’s a much better option than driving or trying to park in town.
