How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

On Saturday night, there was some noise from the street, but it is nothing in the hotel can control.
This hotel was amazing. The interior and the rooms are brilliantly designed. The staff is very welcoming and helpful and it was easy to get in contact with them. The breakfast was great and very convenient. The location is wonderful as well - not close to a lot of the touristy areas so it is quiet, but still in walking distance.

Everything was perfect
The staff was the best. They fixed a problem with the booking immediately and offered us an excellent room with no additional cost. The breakfast on the street was a high point of our stay. Everything is beyond our expectations.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, creating a very positive atmosphere throughout. The location is also excellent, with everything I needed close by and easy to reach. Overall, a great experience that I would happily recommend.

There was a leak in hotel gran bretagna before our arrival so we got moved to their sister accommodation Apollo suite which was very close to the hotel. Francesca informed us with plenty of time and it didn't negatively impact our stay at all.

the stairs leading to the room. However not too many.
Breakfast was good and varied, location is very good as it is close to the sea/boat tours and parking areas. Staff is very helpful and also arranged for our boat tours. Also close to supermarkets and a good restaurant next door and many others. Will certainly go again :)

Nice hotel with great location on Ortigia. Many sights In walkable distance. Helpful and kind staff. Great breakfast with big selection. Clean and spacious room. Many shops and restaurants around.

Balcony not suitable for sitting, while half the space taken by the airconditioner.
The staff is helpful and friendly, the hotel has a good location and the breakfast ok with good coffee. Beds are good and rooms are clean and big. Plus for minibar in the room.

While bathroom was more than fine, it could use a little update. The price/value was reasonable, but it was a little more expensive then the other places we stayed at in Sicily.
Breakfast was very good. Location was perfect on Ortigia Island - it was fairly easy to access with car and park at nearby lot. It was an easy walk to everything. Room was big and comfortable. Staff was very nice and helpful.

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Gran Bretagna, we knew we were in for something special. Check-in was a breeze, but what made it truly exceptional was the warm welcome from the hosts. Not only were they friendly and attentive, but they also shared incredibly helpful insider tips on the best local beaches, must-see historical sites, and authentic restaurants – most of which ended up being highlights of our trip! Our room was immaculate – spotlessly clean and beautifully scented, giving off a fresh and calming atmosphere. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, making it hard to get up in the mornings – though the promise of breakfast made it easier. The location couldn’t be more perfect – right in the heart of Ortigia, everything was just a short stroll away, from charming piazzas and ancient ruins to the seafront and bustling local markets. And speaking of mornings, breakfast at the hotel was a true delight. The hosts lovingly presented a variety of local products, each one more delicious than the last. As we sipped our coffee and sampled fresh cheeses, pastries, and fruits, they shared more fantastic recommendations and stories that made us feel like locals. Hotel Gran Bretagna isn’t just a place to stay – it’s an experience in itself. Warm, comfortable, perfectly located, and full of heart, it’s a dreamy base for anyone looking to truly enjoy Ortigia. We can’t wait to return!

There is no lift, however the fantastic porter staff were always available
This hotel is in a great location. The rooms are large, quaint and gorgeous. The staff are friendly , helpful...even remember your coffee order at breakfast.

There is no elevator, so if you have mobility issues, this may not be the right place for you.
