Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandThere was an AC in the room but no remote which would have been nice as it got quite warm at night. Additionally, the window was not closing properly allowing the sounds of the street to enter the room which was a bit loud at night.
The location was quit central and only a 30 minute walk from the Colosseum away. There is a grocery store just around the corner and the accommodation is close to the train station where the shuttle bus drops you off. The host responded quickly to texts and was flexible when it came to check in times being delayed.

GermanyThe bathroom was ok, even if it could use some refurbishment. There were some mould and moisture stains on the ceiling.
The stay in total was ok! Sam and the staff on site were very friendly and arranged for us to leave our luggage earlier, which was great! The appartment is a maisonette type with a second floor for the third bed. It is not possible to walk there, but it is functional enough, so no problem with that. All three beds were comfortable. All in all was good enough for a stop-over for one night.

Czech RepublicOverall feeling of low to none apartment maintenance. Makeshift electrical installation. Appliances, walls, furniture well past its lifespan. Staff did a great job in cleaning but they can't magically refurbish a ran-down place. For a short stay OK, though. Good location.
Good wifi. Pretty clean as much as possible for almost unmaintained premises.

United StatesCheck in was horrible. Kept bugging us for a check in time for many, many days in advance, and then, we had travel delays (travel is unpredictable). Had to wait an hour and a half or so for someone to let us into the building. (Owner/manager doesn't really account for lack of service to WhatsApp him. Many guests had problems, it seems.) All of the staff was very sweet and accommodating though. I just wish it was a bit easier. Bed was a pull out mattress that you kind of sunk into.
Room was large, clean, and had great A/C. Cleaning staff were absolutely amazing. Location is so convenient, close to central train station. Our room had a kitchen which was awesome.

ItalyThey gave us a sofa bed for two with a very thin matress and not a double bed as the reservation specified. We had a horrible night sleeping there and that is why the day after we changed hotels as early as possible.
The building is quite nice and it is very near to Termini. The host was very easy with the check in and the bathroom was quite clean even when it's a shared one.

United KingdomI would unfortunately not recommend this property to anyone. I completely understand that this is a budget stay, and we had no high expectations of anything luxury- but there are still basic standards that all places should meet, which Happy Rome definitely did not. Firstly, we did not feel secure or safe in our room. As you can see in the first picture attached, our “door” (a wobbly sliding panel) was held closed with one padlock on a piece of metal that was literally coming out of the wall, which could have most likely been pulled out with enough force. The fact that we didn’t have a proper, solid door OR a proper lock made us feel unsafe as two young women alone. The door to the apartments and the door to the main building were secure, but we still didn’t know who had access and who else was staying in out block of rooms and so we felt uncomfortable for sure. Secondly, this place was extremely unclean (see photos attached). The fridge wasn’t clean, the freezer was broken and extremely dirty, the sink was blocked and smelt foul. It was just generally unclean. Also, the air conditioning unit had a tube which went into a plastic container in the kitchen, which overflowed in the night and flooded the kitchen floor. There was also two nails sticking up from the wooden floor in the room which i nearly trod on several times, this is definitely a safety issue and we’re lucky neither of us cut our foot badly. I can see from looking at previous negative reviews that the owner doesn’t respond well to negative reviews which says everything about the kind of host he is. I am expecting a rude response to this so we will see. Honestly, I suggest he starts taking some responsibility and makes changes otherwise I doubt things are looking up for Happy Rome.

Wallis and FutunaThose photos on the site do not correspond to reality! It's uncomfortable. It's to leave things but not to rest. The neighbourhood is dirty. People are suspicious. A lot of homeless people. The room did not have doors but had a screen door where you could hear everything from the room. Security was not felt. The bed is very uncomfortable with sags. The walls are dirty. It was a terrible experience. My mistake for not reading the comments. I really wanted to get out of there, it was very dirty and disgusting. Maybe people were trying to keep it as clean as possible. Well, the general impression is that it's filthy. With room number one went the kitchen. She was nasty. It wasn't cleaned properly.
I didn't like anything. I wasn't far from the bus stop.
