How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewExcellent location in the rural area of Chianti, excellent views, whether you enjoy a book under a tree or swim in the infinity pool with the view of all of Chianti and all the way to Florence and beyond, beautiful facilities and design, very nice staff. Great place to start and enjoy your day trips anywhere in Tuscany or to enjoy a day by the pool with a book.

Verified reviewAmazing winery tour and tasting. We enjoyed the views very much.
When we booked this property there was a pool in the pictures however when we arrived there was a pool being built and no other substitute. They mentioned that the pool doesn’t open until June/July. It was still disappointing as this was not noted on the listing clearly and the weather was hot!

Verified reviewThe lanscape, building and the garden is very beautiful but the view is unbelievable! It is the best view where we went around this region. The rooms have old and cosy furnitures. There’s fly screen/net for mosquitos on every window. And bonus was the pool, which we didnt know before. But saying only “pool” would not be enough, it might be the best pool with a view, just look at the photos please :) and there were 3 lazy cats which shows the peace in the air…
Breakfast was not satisfying, except coffee. There were some problems with the plumbing system. And the wine tour that one of the hotel staff is giving is not a tour, only wine tasting for 5 wines and 1 olive oil in the cellar, with some charcuterie and cheese.

It is almost unlikely to find restaurants and cafes nearby. You have to rent a car and drive down the town

Verified reviewIt’s beautiful - up a very windy road but totally rewarding when you get there! The owner waited for us as we arrived later than planned and was so welcoming. She even called a lovely local restaurant to have them fit us in even though they were fully booked. The room was beautiful, spacious and with a stunning view to the garden and across the valley. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, served in the beautiful shady courtyard and we had a lot of fun with the guy working the breakfast shift. The owners and staff appear to all be very happy and enjoy good relationships which came across throughout our stay. The vineyard & cellar session was thoroughly enjoyable. Sunsets spectacular!
We were disappointed that the pool shown in the booking photos was gone to make way for the new one under construction.

Dear Eire,gb I am the owner of Castellinuzza B&B. thank you for your feedback. I was very sorry to read your evaluation regarding the cleanliness. I was also very surprised because until now we had never received low feedback regarding cleanliness. First and foremost, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies. Since this is a topic to which our team pays particular attention, I would like to ask you more information about it, so as to prevent this situation from occurring again. Your answer would be very helpful to me and I would be really grateful. Sincerely, A. Cinuzzi

Verified reviewAn incredibly beautiful place in the heart of Tuscany.
A place where you want to come back but... But this time we were very disappointed with the attitude. We reserved a room with a balcony (it is the only one in the hotel) two months before our arrival and paid accordingly (important clarification, it is the most expensive in the hotel). On the day of arrival we were refused this room with the excuse that it was not ready. And they gave us a room without a balcony and with a view in the other direction. They didn't even offer to refund the difference or a compliment. Very incorrect. In any case, we won't be going there again.
Very kind, I would like to address you how things really went, since at the time of your arrival there were at least two other staff members in the reception and kitchen. I welcomed you and escorted you to your assigned room, the Malvasia Nera (room with balcony). When I arrived at the room, I realised that something was wrong: the pillows were on the floor and the towels were missing. Since we have always trusted our guests, the keys were never handed over by hand, but were already inserted in the room door. Guests from another room, evidently mistaking the one with their own, had already used the room. This meant redoing the room from scratch, making you wait. As an apology for the incident, we offered to move you to the Trebbiano room, a room not only larger and more expensive (35€ more per night than the Malvasia) but with a window overlooking the most beautiful side of the structure, namely the hills behind it. So we did not have to refund any difference. We explained everything immediately. It is our duty to be prepared to handle this kind of incident and we did it to the best of our ability. The language barrier probably had an impact, but if you had any doubts you could have asked again, instead of venting in a review. As people we try our best to make our guest's stay as comfortable as possible, and it is very sad to us to discover your deep insatisfaction when we can't do anything about it anymore.
