There was nothing we did not like.

We had a wonderful stay in Matera! Franco, our host, was incredibly helpful, polite, and genuinely friendly—he made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The accommodation was spotless and surprisingly spacious. Even on a hot summer day, the temperature inside was cool and comfortable, which made for a perfect retreat after exploring the city. The kitchen had everything we needed, which made meals easy and convenient. And the location truly couldn’t be better—just steps away from the heart of Matera, yet quiet enough for a peaceful night's sleep. Highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Matera!

We liked everything about the property although for the kids two-three days was enough as they needed to get back to the coast where they can swim. The heat in Matera was intense.

The unique experience staying in the Sassi. The accommodation was quaint with lovely touches. The bed linen was spotless and the shower was great. We loved being able to eat in the little courtyard. It was great to have a fridge and stove top to cook pasta and make coffee. Most of all, our host Franco was a gentleman. He collected us from the bus and dropped us back to the station two days later. It was a wonderful and lovely place to stay.

Book this place. You will not regret it. We booked both the downstairs and upstairs apartments and they were both wonderful. This is in a prime location and was the perfect accommodation for 2 days in Matera.

The bed sank a bit in parts but I got used to it after the first night. Note: there’s a fan but no AC. It was fine for us.

The lovely host drove us from the main modern town center where we parked to the apartment in the old Sassi. He is very kind and we managed to communicate using Google translate, WhatsApp and our rudimentary Italian with his rudimentary English. A great space two-room space in the bottom of Sassi Matera in Sassi Barisano. The peaceful apartment is part old cave in the back bedroom area, and the front room has a lovely balcony with a view of Sassi Barisano. Close to lots of restaurants with a range in prices. To get to the more famous churches, you’ll need to hike on foot uphill or get some tour. Be aware that the Sassis are covered in kind of slippery rock. We enjoyed the hikes but the Sassis are not great for the handicapped. We’d recommend staying at the very top flat part of Sassi or Piano section of town if you have mobility issues. There’s a short slightly steep climb up a ramp about 30 feet long from street to apartment. It was no problem for me dealing with a minor pinched nerve in my leg. I would come back for sure.

The apartment is HUGE. The bedroom section was towards the back, built into the natural stone so stayed pleasantly cool even during a 35c heatwave. Great location, relaxing vibes, wish I could’ve stayed longer.

Beautiful apartment in the heart of the old town (Sassi). Very comfortable and spacious. Everything you need to prepare and cook your own meals. Super friendly welcome and allowed me to check in super early and even offered me a lift to the bus station, thanks so much! Would definitely stay here again - I wish I had been staying longer!

It was a whole appartmet, and a big one. Well located in the midle of the Sassi Barisano. They were super helpful with check-in and chec-out, making sure I find the Hotel and that I make it to the bus on time when I left.

The way to the place and back with all the bags is quite challenging. But this is understandable given the structure of the old town and the fact that the place is just by the road that passes between the two hills (from one of which one enters the old city). Navigation with Google Maps is also a mass there, but again - not the fault of the flat owners, just a thing one needs to know when booking there. For us the advantages of the place massively outweigh the disadvantages and we definitely recommend the place.

The place is in a very central place, you get to truly experience the old town of Matera, and once you learn how to navigate in the area (not an easy task...) you find out it is in 5-min walking distance from many of the interesting places to see.

Spacy nice apartment with great view close to the sassi. The sleeping area is built in form of a cave - only windows on the front side. So you can feel it.

Beautiful, large space. great location. Beautiful view - not high enough to look down on the city but looks out onto the other sassi buildings - incredible at night time! Stays cool enough to escape the heat of the city. All the amenities you could need. Franco was so helpful and very kind! Helped me get to the train station very early on my departure. Would definitely stay again.

It was incredible spacious! The photo's didn't do it justice so big is the accommodation. It's in the centre of Sassi with lot's of amazing food places nearby. Very interesting to sleep here!
