How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewClaudio and the staff were so lovely, friendly and welcoming. They could not have been more helpful and Claudio went beyond to help us; recommending restaurants, giving us directions, making us laugh and feel very at home. We went to Inpasta where we had wonderful food. Claudio even gave us a lift to the station .Unique ,delightful rooms with wonderful views . Thank you SOOOO much. Love from the mad sisters Anne Louise and Sarah. We will definitely be back ( and bring our daughters) if you can put up with us again! So much to see; our stay was not long enough.

Verified reviewI had a fantastic stay at this charming and historic hotel. The building itself is full of character and perfectly located right in the heart of the old city, making it easy to explore everything on foot. The host, Claudio was incredibly warm and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Breakfast was delicious with a great variety, and overall, the stay was excellent value for money. Highly recommended!
A bit hard to find and not easy to access with luggage - noisy street at night but can’t help that when you are staying in centre of old city

Verified reviewWe highly recommend this place! It’s located right in the heart of Lucca’s historic center, with amazing views from the rooms. On top of that, the owner is incredibly kind—he prepares breakfast himself and is always happy to help with anything you might want to know or do in Lucca. We were very satisfied with our stay!

Verified reviewThe owner isn’t always at the property, but is very kind and let us enter the room early. Location is very convenient, right in the center. We left our car in the parking lot by the train station, and the walk is less than 10 minutes The room had a/c so it was great to refresh during summer days
The hotel is outdated but overall ok for short stays, the main problem was the shower, it was really small and the door didn’t cover all the area so it was a challenge to shower without making a mess. If you have a light sleep, avoid a street side room on the weekend.

Verified reviewThe location, The gentleman who owns the facility and lives there very helpful and nice. Great breakfast!
The floors, could use a little maintenance for the locks of the rooms, if they do not clise well they leave you trapped in the rooms.

Verified reviewWe really enjoyed our stay at Al Tuscany - mostly due to the excellent service and friendliness of our host Claudio. We made a very late, last minute booking and he was immediately in contact via Whatsapp with instructions. He further helped with bike rentals and excellent restaurant recommendations. We decided to stay an extra night! Great location for access to all touristy things in Lucca. The suite was a great choice for our family with a large bed for the adults and the kids shared a double bed. Claudio very kindly brought me some gluten free muffins after I had stated on the booking form I would prefer a gluten free option for breakfast if possible. Highly recommend.
We found we couldn't open the main door from the street with the key provided but we could call to be let inside the building.

Verified reviewThe location was great, but we were never told about not driving within the city walls, it's for residents only. So we are expecting a fine in the mail any time. Ask the host to help us get out of the city walls, but he simply drew on a little map with no street names, he refused to come down with us to help us get back to the other side, It took us about 3 hours to ask people how to get out. It was a nightmare. Also, other guests were at the B&B and you could hear everything as if they were in the room. The door of the room was just a frosted glass. The place does not look like the pictures, we were disappointed. We did not even bother with breakfast.

Verified reviewIt's located in a very convenient street, a short walk from the Duomo and Puccini's Casa-Museo. I loved the breakfast room with its frescos and the general ambiance. It felt like living a beautiful past and it helped me feel inside the fable of Giacomo Puccini's genious.
Being in the centre means that, at night, specially Saturday, there were noises outside from people enjoying nightlife.

Verified reviewWe stayed in a room just under the roof, and it was really small. I couldn’t even stand on one side of the bed. Additionally, the blind on the tiny window didn’t block out much light.
