Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyThe building is a refurbished old house therefore the sound proofing isn't the best but manageable.
Stella was really clean, a good sized room with a high ceiling and a great location (not far from the centre). The breakfast was exceptional at the Pasticceria nearby. It was an honest price considering the time of year. The owner Lucia was very kind.

BelgiumUnfortunately the mattresses of the bed were a bit too hard for us. We noticed that this is often the case in Italy, so we don't have a problem with it. An extra garbage bin in the room (for empty bottles and other things) would have also been useful. Other than that, no issues at all!
We had a wonderful stay at this B&B. Lucia was very friendly and she provided us with clear instructions from the get go. The location was very easy to find and just a 10 minute walk from the city centre. The room was very nicely decorated and very clean. The bathroom was also very clean. Breakfast is in the cafe nearby, which was a cool way to have breakfast with the locals. We are learning Italian, so we really enjoyed this initiative. The owner of the cafe was also super nice.

FranceVery steep steps to second floor bedroom. Difficult access for older people - suffering silently with mobility problems - especially with suitcases. Our dog also found the stairs a challenge!
It was close to the walled city. Breakfast in the local pastry shop is great.

IrelandCan't really think of anything not to like. It was perfect for us. Private bathroom, aircon, wifi, fridge, access to communal kitchen for lunch prep, great location, clean and safe. There is no real view or terrace/outside area, but you are not staying here for those things - its a base to explore Lucca.
Perfect location for a stay in Lucca, espically if you have a car. Free parking space provided which is a major upside anywhere in Italy. Less than 10min walk to the walls. Great breakfast included at resturaunt next door.

United KingdomStayed 2 nights and found it a bit noisy both nights with guests moving around above us and next door. We had to leave really early on last morning so very conscious of trying to creep around quietly.
Easy walk in to Lucca which was just an amazing place to visit and we walked around the walled perimeter twice as well as right through the town. Good communication and friendly welcome with restaurant suggestions and map. Very nice pastries and coffee with ‘voucher’ for Stella patisserie. Communal little kitchen but nice to have a fridge in the room also. Really big bed was very comfortable! Good black out shutters.

RussiaVery nice place to stay in Lucca. It's not in the town center but it takes maybe 15 minutes to walk. From the train station it's also about 20 minutes. What we liked the most is breakfast in the cafe right near, because there are no any othe cafes or food shops in the near (we didn't find it), so it was a great decision to choose this place. Very clean and cozy.

United KingdomThe bedroom and the bathroom were very clean and spacious. Towels and free toiletries were provided. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are on the first and second floor and there is no lift. There are two flights of stairs to reach each floor, so this B & B is not really suitable for people with reduced mobility and with heavy luggage. The location is good, about 10/15 minutes' walk from the city centre and about 20 minutes' walk from the railway station, but there are bus stops nearby. You receive a 6 Euro voucher for the breakfast to be spent in the Pasticceria Stella a minute away where you can eat in or take away what you bought. If you spend over 6 Euro, you will need to pay the difference, but if you spend less that 6 Euro you are given a credit for the next morning. The Pasticceria Stella offers a wide range of lovely cakes and savoury snacks, but they do not sell dairy products (yogurts/bowls of cereals with milk). There is a well equipped self-catering kitchen in the Pension Stella which was very useful. Highly recommended.

United KingdomNothing - except one flight If stairs fewer would have been great!
Stella is conveniently situated just outside the central part of Lucca, so it was very easy to walk into the city. We were able to park right outside Stella and not use the car at all during our stay. Our room was fairly spacious and spotlessly clean - in addition, the staff came and re-made the bed while we were out. Lucia at reception was very friendly and helpful. We were provided with vouchers to buy breakfast in the next door pasticceria which was excellent and apparently very popular with locals. There was a self catering room on the ground floor which we could have used, but we preferred to explore Lucca and eat out. In short, Stella suited our needs perfectly and we thoroughly recommend IT for anyone visiting Lucca - or Pisa - which is only a short Drive away.
