Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesIf you’re thinking of visiting Reykjavík and looking for a place to stay, look no further: Vakta was amazing and the host, Margrét, was even better! We took our family of 4 on a quick 4.5 day trip to Iceland, because our boys wanted to see the northern lights. Originally, I tried booking a hotel for my wife and I, and our 2 boys(7 and 5). Every hotel we looked at was too small and could accommodate the 4 of us in one room so we decided on an air bnb. That’s when I came across Vakta and we couldn’t have been happier with our decision. First of all, the house is so cozy, and wonderfully decorated with unique 1 of a kind items that made the historic house feel even more special. Margrét made sure we had everything we needed. We were walking distance to everything(food, shopping, museums, drinks, sightseeing, bus stops) and Margrét had a car for us to use to explore and hunt for the lights. Our boys loved the sleeping arrangements in the lofts and couldn’t wait to lay down every night. Margrét was easy to get in touch with and also helped us with any questions we had. If we ever visit Reykjavik again we will be sure to try and stay here again.

United StatesWarm and cozy and centrally located?! This place is a real gem, encompassing modern comfort with historical charm and just enough room for a family of four. The kids loved the upstairs loft, and made great use out of the Jenga blocks. The place was spotless and so comfortable. I don’t think we’ll ever stay anywhere else in Reykjavík! Thank you!

United Statesnothing, it was great!
this was a hidden gem right in the heart or Reykjavík! This historic house has such charm, it’s clean and comfortable, and the host is very accommodating. There were goodies waiting for us on arrival (bread, cheese, wine, fruit and more!) and the property was located in an excellent location- very walkable.

United StatesThe location is fantastic. It’s only a block away from some great restaurants shopping and local spots. Fair warning must be given. If you get into the super comfy bed that is tucked away you may not want to get out. This place is definitely the best spot to stay when in Reykjavik.

United StatesI loved this characteristic and so did my daughters, ages 7 and 9. However, my husband is 6’4” and found the cozy upstairs a little too cozy. Just a heads up for you taller travelers.
The location could not be better; within walking distance to great restaurants and sites. The included car allowed us to take day trips at our own pace. Margret was lovely and greeted us with keys, details and recommendations. She treated us to delicious baked goods from a favorite bakery, fruit, bread, cheese, wine and beer. It was enough to feed a family of four for two breakfasts! I would recommend Vaktahouse to anyone traveling to Iceland.

United StatesThe property is beautiful. The attention to detail is better than we could've imagined. Local artisans' work can be seen in every inch from the dishes to the textiles. Margret is a very kind and gracious host. I had a lot of questions and Margret was always quick to respond and oh-so helpful. My family arrived on my son's 11th birthday and Margret helped organize delivery of a delicious cake from a local bakery. There were also pastries and assorted beverages, cheese, milk, etc. so that when we arrived very jet-lagged, we could focus on resting and refueling. Vakta house is a magical place!

LuxembourgMargarets House was our home for a few nights. The house has a lot of charm. I felt like I was in a Swiss chalet or in a fairy tale. Only the snow was missing. The rooms are small but very intelligently furnished, so that you can stay there comfortably even as a small family. The kitchen has everything you need and is well thought out (that's not always a given). We missed nothing, and I had to laugh when I even found a salad spinner there....perfect. This is for me one of the most important items of daily use. Margaret also spoiled us with very nice little surprises in the fridge. In generall I had the impression that Margaret is a person that wants her guests to be well. Thank you Margaret we will be back.

United StatesNot a negative - just an fyi that the beds (1 queen, 2 twins) are upstairs in a loft - accessible with some narrow/steep stairs. Perfect for single 20-somethings but perhaps less ideal for older individuals or people with disabilities.
Vaktahouse is the best rental experience I have ever had. Vakta is an adorable little cottage right in the center of Reykjavik - we could basically walk everywhere in the city. Margret is super helpful and goes to great lengths to ensure an excellent experience for guests, from a list of restaurant recommendations to a bottle of wine and fresh bread on the table when we walked in. We were four 20-something friends who spent most of our time out exploring, so for us the amount of space was perfect. The car was an added bonus too, and was great for our day trips to blue lagoon & the golden circle. Overall, we are so happy we stumbled upon this little place and I would strongly recommend to family and friends!

United KingdomThere was a lot of noise during the first couple of days due to roadworks, although this wasn't the hosts fault, of course. It just made the time a lot less restful. There were no dark blinds/options to cover the windows across the house (except for two beige light coloured covers that didn't block the light). This made it difficult to sleep as the bedrooms are open plan and daylight hours were around 20+ hours. Only one pillow was provided for each bed and they were like air - we all had to fold our clothes up to create some sort of stability so that we could support our heads whilst sleeping. We all sleep quite differently but collectively experienced difficulties with the beds being fairly uncomfortable. My brother spent his last two nights sleeping on the sofa.
We loved this quaint historical little house. It was thoughtfully decorated and had lots of beautiful details. I loved the sleeping space visually, and the little areas to rest downstairs. The kitchen was well equipped and the pastries, bread, cheese, beer and wine upon arrival was an absolute treat. The location was perfect and the car rental included saved us a lot of money and time so we could explore outside of Reykjavik. Our host was also very communicative despite being away during our visit. Thanks to her friend for accommodating us.
