How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat location on the water. Was nice hearing the water at night with an open window. The key box feature is very handy and nice.
The staircase upstairs is more like a ladder and was hard for people with big bags.

Verified reviewTungulending Guesthouse is the best place to stay in Iceland if you appreciate a quiet peaceful time and have come for the Icelandic nature. It is a little remote. My daughter and I had a marvellous time there and the hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. For us, it was magic. In summer, when the owners offer coffee and tea, try the homemade chocolate cake.

Verified reviewClean, cozy, and such a beautiful yet quiet location right on the water! What a treat it is to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean:) This guesthouse is run by a lovely family who were so kind and accommodating. The history of the guesthouse building is very interesting too… ask Tessa, she’ll be happy to share all about it! The property doubles as a coffeehouse that locals frequent so you get a cool glimpse into life here… I would recommend this guesthouse! P.S. the hill really isn’t that bad :)
No kitchen to cook in HOWEVER, they provide you with hot water, a fridge, a toaster, a panini press, and plates/bowls/utensils. The kitchen is reserved for the coffeehouse so there’s lots of yummy baked treats to purchase when the cafe is open!

Verified reviewSensational location; kind owners; spacious common area; modern shared bathrooms; comfy beds. Appreciated being able to prepare simple meals and access coffee/hot water.
Provision of a full size fridge with freezer would be helpful; microwave positioned so it couldn’t reach a power point (had to move it from a high shelf). Noticed most guests prepared own dinners and breakfasts so may need to rethink how to make it more user friendly.
Thanks for your feedback. The evening you arrived, there was a problem with the toaster, which caused the electrical fuse to blow. Other guests then unplugged the cable. Sorry about that, of course the microwave is always plugged in 😉 I was already wondering in the morning why the microwave was there; that's never happened before. But it's amusing to read reviews like this. Thanks for that.

Verified reviewLocated right on the water, the views are spectacular. Shared bathrooms and toilets were large, clean and any wait to use was never long. We made use of the kitchen area to prepare a simple dinner and breakfast and then enjoyed the views from the deck. Coffee, tea, and coffee was available 24/7 but ran out before the staff arrived at 8:30AM the next morning.
There was a musty smell in our room and one pillow didn't smell fresh. It was fine after it was flipped over. It was difficult preparing food without use of a sink or cutting board/knife. While there was a microwave, shared refrigerator, bowls, plates, cups, it wasn't enough when most of the guests prepared their own meals. It would help to provide paper towels or dishcloths for clean up, maybe even dishwashing liquid at the toilet sink since there was no kitchen sink.
Thanks for your feedbacks. But regarding the dishes: It varies greatly; most of the time it's completely sufficient and often there isn't much to wash in the morning. It's not necessary for guests to do the dishes.

Verified reviewThe check in was easy and smooth. The position in front of the ocean is simply amazing. The attention to details both in the room's furniture and in the common areas is really appreciated: a great mix of taste and functionality!
Dishware cannot be washed by the guests for hygene reasons, but I believe also having them piled at the counter is not ideal.

Verified reviewLocation and easy check in, with comfortable services and excellent views Use of the common kitchen and utensils is flawless and essential given how remote the property is The remote nature of the location is a big plus and I would recommend travelers to seek this kind of truly honest establishments with great environments and close contact to nature; as well as friendly services Hosts are very welcoming and warm; all smiles all the time We felt really at home
Thank you for your feedback. But to avoid any misunderstandings, I'd like to point out that there is no real kitchen. There are dishes and small appliances like a toaster, sandwich maker, microwave, and refrigerator so guests can prepare small meals. But there are no cooking facilities. Furthermore, coffee and hot water/tea are always available. We do the dishes from 8:30 a.m. onwards.

Verified reviewIt’s the closest I’ve felt to being at home, even while being in a completely unfamiliar country. There’s something about the warmth, atmosphere, and ease that just made it all feel surprisingly familiar. The owners are truly going above and beyond — you can really feel the care and effort they put into everything.

Verified reviewWe were very happy in this fantastic accommodation by the sea, we had a great time there and the best view of all houses in Iceland. Our children enjoyed that stay also, we felt there like in the fantastic paradise of the ocean. The owners are very nice and helpfull family, I admire their style of life and we are gratefull to be able to join them for a while. Thanks a lot!

Verified reviewThe place was very near to Husavik. The location and views are amazing with a walkable boardwalk over the waterbody. The room was small, but it still had a provision for a good stay. The atay had a common room for dining which we used fully as we were a group of 7. The hosts were really accommodating and nice and provided clear instructions.
Only thing to be mindful was the shared bathroom but they were well maintained as well.

Verified reviewgreat location with comfortable bed. It was nice to have breakfast available.
The shower drain was clogged and overflowed.
Oh, I think you confused us with another accommodation. Tungulending is outside of town, completely isolated, there's no breakfast, and the shower drains have never clogged ✌️😉

Verified reviewWe loved the character and charm. The location was absolutely wonderful. The owners, Thessa and Chris, are very friendly and welcoming. They love their guesthouse and guests, and it really shows. We loved laying in bed and looking out over the sea. It was very relaxing and peaceful. The beds were comfortable, and the room was warm. The cafe runs each day downstairs until 6.30 pm. The cakes are scrumptious. There is a corner set up with a fridge, microwave, toaster, and jug for guests to use, as well as plates, bowls, cups, and cutlery. Cereal and milk are provided. Coffee, tea, and hot water are provided also. The cafe kitchen can not be used by guests. Bring food that does not need cooking on a stove and is easy to prepare. We would have loved to stay for longer in this very special place, but our trip did not allow. Thanks, Thessa and Chris, you are the best!
There was nothing not to love

Our room no 1 had a smell of fish all evening/night but was perfectly clean. Strange though.
