Reviews of KEX Hostel and Hotel

The location is central. Right by the sea and a 5 to 10 min walk to Harpa. A grocery store 3 min away and another one 5 min away. The beds were all lined up along one wall so there was privacy. There is also a soft cover against the bed for added privacy. They store luggage for free for up to 5 days.

The lighting is dark everywhere, including the rooms. The interior is dated. Brighter lighting would improve the overall experience and less costly than renovation.

Cool decoration in nice cosy room. Very helpful staff who gave us great tips to catch the Flybus to KEF airport.

The lift was not working and we had to carry two heavy suitcases up three flights of stairs.

Kex is in a quiet and convenient part of the city. The atmosphere was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.

It would be good if a lift could be installed as I was on level 4.

The sleeping facilities and toilet/showering facilities were totally unacceptable. We reserved 2 nights, paid for 2 nights, saw the facilities and left, forfeiting 2 nights accommodation for 2 people. I’m trying to get a refund from booking.com to no avail.

I liked the location

I didn’t like that our room was not cleaned, even though we arrived after midnight. The construction started 7 in the morning not 9 o’clock :) so be aware that it is noisy

It's a hostel with shared facilities. But that's understood.

Decor, vibe, and amenities were modern and fun.

Horrid smell of feet, beds were close together, other guests were loud and rude

Kex Hostel was exactly as expected. We were just looking for a place to sleep and shower and it was perfect for that. We stayed in a private room for 2 people. Rooms were basic but clean and gave just enough space to be able to move around. Bathrooms were modern and clean. There was some construction outside but we were warned before arriving and they have ear plugs at the front desk for guests. The common room/ bar area was nice to hang out in and staff were very welcoming. We had breakfast 1 morning and it was okay. We left full but opted to try some other places for the rest of our time in Reykjavik. We rented a car during our time in Iceland and there was parking around the hostel. Parking in the nearby parking garage was a bit pricey but Iceland is pricey overall. We felt safe walking around at night and felt that we were close enough to shops, cafes, restaurants, and key spots like Harpa Concert Hall. I would stay here again if returning to Reykjavik.

Boiled eggs at breakfast were a bit too over cooked.
