How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was bare bones but very inexpensive in an excellent location! It was clean & quiet. There were kitchen facilities and a comfortable sitting area. And there was parking!
You had to figure everything out for yourself - I just kind of wandered around to find WCs, kitchen areas, etc. But there were plenty of showers & WCs available.

Verified reviewThe room was basic but comfortable with a great view. They are very close to the church and city center. It's quiet and close to a local pool (but it was closed).
The security was not the best. As a solo traveler woman it really annoys me when men try to enter with me and not use their own code. It happened a lot the single night I was there. One man got annoyed that I told him to use his own code. Also there is not a real reception. It's hard to know who is and isn't staff.

Verified reviewTragic place, it looks dirty, it is placed in a school building so it’s not cozy at all, there was constant humming right outside my room - very loud, room was too hot and only one window to open. I needed to book another place cause it was like straight from a horror movie.

Verified reviewWe had terrible stench in our room. Only one shower which was always occupied. Noise during the night. Never again.

Verified review1. It's centrally located. 2. The kitchen was nice. Guests can cook their meals or reheat meals from the groceries. Since it's expensive to eat in Iceland, the kitchen is a good alternative to save money. 3. Checking in was smooth. The hostel sends the main door code and the room code that the guests are assigned in. It's hassle free since guests will no longer que in the reception to be checked in.
The NOISE. The doors are just banging all the time even if there's a notice to minimise the noise after 11:00 PM. Some guests are just unbothered. There is a certain smell in the toilet and shower room. Smells like geothermal water. I still enjoyed my shower, though.

Verified reviewDo not stay here. There is no staff available to assist with check in. I had not received my room assignment or code to get in the building or into a room even though I had a confirmation code stating the hostel confirmed my stay. I had to talk to 2 different cleaning staff, fortunately, they put me on the phone with someone who had me on hold and made me wait another 30 minutes for a room. It was chaotic, and as a female traveling alone, a random man on the phone telling you the code to your room is not a safe way to feel.

Verified reviewThe location is very practical and the facilities are very modern and clean.
Not having any face-to-face contact with an actual human being during my stay (e.g., there were no staff on site that I know of and all access codes were provided online) was a bit odd. It would be useful to have larger lockers for guests (e.g., in the rooms) that you could close with a padlock.

Verified reviewI was at the hostel for the second time. Booked a female shared room, much prettier than the mixed one and much cozier.
Sharing the room with us there was an elderly lady who kept fussing and cursing around about the lights outside, the bed and made it hard for me to fall asleep but not the hostel fault. It’s just an anecdote…

Verified reviewWe think it was formerly a hospital converted into a hostel. It's a very big. Well equipped with many common areas. It also look very secure for the ones travelling alone. It's also very clean. It's super well located to visit the city center by foot. It's next to one of the Sundhollin public baths in Reykjavik (2-min walk) that we recommend to try out !
The room itself has 2 bunk beds (fits 4-people is very small. The floor is plastic (lino) and it's deteriorated because some people pushed one of the 2 bunk beds. The view is on the parking. There is no one from the hostel that we could meet. We didn't see any physical reception. Communication was very clear but only virtual.
