To us, Holssel road 864 was an upscale hostel stay, but don’t let that steer you away! Our room was very clean and quite comfortable, although the sink in our private bathroom was very small. We had unit #7 in the building (2nd floor, end room) which had a fantastic view with two large windows. The two, very large shared kitchens with several refrigerators and lots of seating met all our needs. The other guests were just super — there were many guests but everyone quieted down at an appropriate time, so we slept well. The location is remote, which we loved because it was a peaceful place. Just be aware of that in terms of stocking up on your groceries ahead of time.

The cottage was nice and roomy and had two large streaming capable TVs. We had a problem in our cottage with the electricity, but were able to move over to the next cottage with no problems. We appreciated the staff being on top of the problem. The hot water takes a little while to work in the shower, but we were told about it at check in and it worked great. The beds were very comfortable and the scenery around the place was beautiful. We had a little trouble with Google Maps finding the place. It was farther down the road than we thought. Be aware the road is unpaved and can be rough at times so take your time. Our advice would be to eat before you check in or stop at the store and pick up food to eat. Once you get to the place you won't want to drive back to eat somewhere. We really enjoyed staying here and loved the location.

acctually i love the place even though it was little far for me.. its new hotel, its quite and very clean beside they offer almost everthing for you. they have big & clean kitchen so yo can cook your food.

But where it was that you can eat ???? In what building. a better signe on the road wher the recepion in was better no you must look for it the recpetion was about 20 km a way. No key of the room?

Cozy and clean rooms in a small complex on the 864 unpaved road. Beautiful place with no other surrounding buildings and overlooking a small river and the fields. The check-in is at the Grimstunga Guesthouse and you have to drive around 6 km to reach the room. The hotel has very well equipped shared kitchen and good WiFi.

We would not have chosen this location had we not wanted to go the eastern side of Dettifoss. Road 864 was awful to drive on.

The road there is a long typical icelandic dirt road which is fine but to get to the place was not clear on Google maps or Waze, we had to ask and the closest place there was 20mibs drive away

This was 1 of 12 places we stayed during our 16 day trip. It was the only place where the host was not friendly at all and bothered that we checked in with him and paid in person. Actually he was the ONLY local we met in 16 days that was unfriendly. The price I was charged was $50 more than the price on my booking app. Maybe that was an “annoyance tax”. The place is also not easy to find. The room was small and not very private. You had to close the shades as people are always walking by and there’s no where to change in private Very Small shower/bathroom. I would definitely not stay here again. Community kitchen was nice and well stocked.

The houses are located in the middle of nowhere in the best way possible. We had a cottage that was part of the long row of cottages. The view was amazing, towards the river, with geese and baby geese visiting us from the river. The room was surprisingly big, it looked really good, the bed was extremely confortable. The bathroom was very nice as well and it even had a bottle of lotion. The highlight was the heated floors which made the stay extremely pleasant. The kitchen in the common area was in a different building, so there was no noise from it. The kitchen was very well equipped, it had everything you might need. Overall, the attention to details in such a remote place was highly appreciated.

Didn’t realize how tiny the accommodations were. It was hard with a family. But other than that it served our needs in the middle of the northern Iceland expanse without much civilization!

It helped us on our trek around the ring road…clean, great breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Good to not have to share a bathroom!
