How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSana was available, helpfull and very pleasant to deal with, but was only there when needed! Only down side was I did not notice the kitchen was shared between 2 apartments?
Not knowing the kitchen was shared. I didn't mind sharing the kitchen, but this fact was not obvious on booking?

Verified reviewBeautiful location, well situated between Lake Myvatn & Husavik so perfect for our itinerary. Property is lovely and the garden has great views and a couple of lovely rabbits that kept our children entertained.
No communal space in the room so needed to play family games in the evenings in the shared kitchen space.

Verified reviewNo breakfast was offered. There was a small kitchenette in our room which was more of a guest house, and not in the main house. There is also a larger kitchen at the front of the guesthouse.
It was a bit of a trek from Husavik, with about 10 min or so on a gravel road. Good conditions on the road but you move slower. The room made up for the more lengthy trek. Also to note for all of Iceland, there is no air conditioning and it can be hard to get some ventilation in the rooms. If only fans were provided.

Verified reviewWe had a great stay. The guesthouse is really nice, surrounded by a nice garden with a greenhouse, with a view of a waterfall and a lot of nature in general. The kitchen was just next door and well equipped, but we also had a small kitchen area in our room! And I was really happy about the hot chocolate powder with marshmallows waiting for us there :) The room was really nice and comfortable. We would definitely come back here if we return to Iceland!

Verified reviewVery quiet, peaceful and comfortable. Great facilities and nice selection of books to read. Well equipped kitchen with really everything you need.
It is a bit further out to travel but worth it if you like it quiet, even has its own waterfall where they create their own electricity from. The kitchen is outside the main building which is important to know in winter and rain as you always need to get dressed up ;).

Verified reviewLovely, quiet guesthouse that offers everything you need and more. Everything was very clean and the room has a modern and cozy interior. Also, there's a well equipped, separate kitchen/common room that's free for everyone to use. Communication was friendly and easy. We felt right at home!
A bit remote but worth the detour!

Verified reviewThe house was fantastic: clean, tidy, warm and surrounded by spectacular landscape. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. My friend and I had a great time: the only two nights we rested during the Ring Road.

Verified reviewThe property is pristine. The common kitchen is amazingly well equipped. The best, by far, we have seen amongst all the other guesthouses we stayed at.
It is super remote and the road to reach the guesthouse is damaged (potholes, gravel…). But the juice is worth the squeeze - just do your food shopping beforehand and don’t forget to have a full tank.

Verified reviewEverything! Iris and her dad hosted us and they were so kind and helpful. We were very comfortable in our accommodations. They had 2 dogs on the property and several horses we were able to interact with which we loved! We were able to go on a horseback ride, icing on the cake. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay here!

Verified reviewSuch a beautiful home and experience. Svana has clearly put a lot of thoughts and personal touches into the property that made our stay more than comfortable and enjoyable. We have roadtripped around the ring road and stayed in multiple homes in Iceland (and also visited the country before). For the first time, the rooms have complete dark blinds/curtains and we didn't need eye masks. The bathroom has all the toiletries, towels as well as the space for a family of 4 to layout our own stuff. The kitchen has everything you need to not just make tea, coffee, and a nice breakfast but the space to enjoy. There are tables and chairs in many corners of the garden where you'll simply enjoy the waterfall sound and fresh air. It's all the little things that make this place unique and exceptional. Thanks Svana for hosting us!
The front door is not straightforward to lock/unlock. Svana did put a note to explain, and we thought we mastered it. But somehow it still took some practice to figure things out and we even locked ourselves out once. Make sure you practice and always bring the keys.

Verified reviewGranastaðir Guesthouse was the highlight of our trip! We(two couples) spent three nights here and had a fantastic time. Not only was everything very clean in our suite, it was also beautifully and stylishly decorated with nice details and a great bathroom. We immediately felt at home. The surroundings are also wonderful, with a pretty and well-kept garden and there is even a waterfall nearby. It is all dreamlike! The biggest surprise for us was that there was a shared kitchen. We had not expected a kitchen at all and have found here simply the best equipped and most beautiful kitchen of the entire trip. And again everything was spotless clean. I also want to add that Svana is a great host. Before we even arrived she provided us with the latest information regarding construction sites or even closures on our route and helped us to avoid those. Another thing I noticed is that some of the reviews mention that there is no dishwasher or that they had issues with locking the front door. When we were there, there was a dishwasher and there were also instruction on how the front door works, so my impression is that Svana takes reviews and feedback very seriously and keeps improving Granastaðir Guesthouse. Svana, if you read this, you're doing a great job and have created a beautiful place! It couldn't have been any better for us! So for all of you out there looking for a place to stay while exploring Húsavík or the Mývatn area, I absolutely recommend this place!
it's sad we had to leave
