Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere's nothing not to like! ONLY suggestion I'd make is to perhaps add a few salads to the menu (for example, Sprout salad for breakfast, and maybe raw mango salad a la carte).
HIGHLY recommend staying at Palais de Mahe. It's one of my best hotel experiences in India. LOCATION: very close to the beach, and in the French Quarters, close to almost everywhere! HELPFUL and POLITE STAFF: All the staff were superb--they took great care of my mother and I. A special shout out to Adrian and Fakrauddin at the reception; Rajesh and Nithya in the restaurant. I am forgetting a few other names but overall everyone was helpful and polite, ensuring that our stay is comfortable. AYURVEDIC centre: one of the best parts of the hotel is their Ayurvedic centre--I was impressed by the many authentic traditional Ayurvedic massage services they offer. It is by far the best experience I have had. We were impressed by the professionalism and attention to specific injuries and pain, based on which the head of the Centre recommends treatments and massages. A special shout out to Girishma, who was absolutely wonderful; perhaps the best masseuse I have encountered. FOOD: The food menu is tasty and mindfully curated. The breakfast is not a regular buffet, which I appreciate, as few dishes are prepared with care and intention, and served as small portions (this is much appreciated as it is off-putting to see hotels waste food especially at breakfast). The South Indian breakfast menu changes everyday, and we had wonderful dishes which are not available in regular restaurants. Nithya helped us to understand each dish, and we got a taste of authentic cuisine. The chef takes great care and personally visits each table and shares information about the dishes of the day. There are options of eggs, croissants, smoothies, toasts as well. For dinner, we tried a few excellent traditional dishes. The food is sumptuous, intentional, and well-prepared. Superb experience, will definitely visit again.

United KingdomWhen we asked about restaurant recommendations the staff were very keen to point us towards European restaurants but we just wanted to taste local food!
Beautiful building and very close to the seafront. Ideal if you want to get up early to catch the sunrise! The breakfast was delicious and staff were very helpful. Chef Anthony made superb dosas! The pool was also a highlight.

United KingdomI was a little disappointed by the restaurant; maybe I chose badly but as seafood was meant to be a speciality, I had thought the squid curry would have been more tender and tastier. There were no side dishes like dal or spinach on offer although the restaurant did mange to give us some tasty sautéed vegetables as a side order. The cocktails were also a bit disappointing and not cold There were some lights that stayed on during the night which made it harder to sleep
Breakfast was tasty but took time and there was some confusion and disorganisation around drinks The check on was good and welcoming. The rooms are large and spacious, nice to have a pool. The old building, the large key! And location were fantastic

IndiaConsidering we were with kids, it would have been nice to actually get the rooms on the ground floor next to the pool. There is construction happening on the 1st floor and ours was the last room right before the construction area. It just felt a little disappointing to literally have no view both inside the room (staring at a wall) and outside. While we were anticipating there wouldn't be much for the kids, but literally besides the pool there isn't actually anything else for kids to do in the hotel. That I feel can be a big factor for families who come with very young kids who may need a playroom or some activities to keep them occupied.
It is overall a lovely property with very helpful staff, amazing breakfast and a very, nice feel good experience. The swimming pool is nice and the property is aesthetically done. For our 1.5 year daughter, they gave us complimentary warm milk every evening on request. By the 2nd night, we had requested for an additional cot for our older son which they promptly placed in our room and it was adorable to see the bonding of both our kids in their own respective cots. It was really interesting to see so many locals and tourists getting their pictures taken of the hotel's premises outside that it made us feel like celebrities too. The "walking beach" is barely 50-100m away and the proximity to the cafes around us was really worth our stay at Palais de Mahe. Special kudos to the manager for recommending us about the sailing which was one of the highlights of our trip.

IndiaJust that somehow we continued to have mosquitos in our room even after it being closed. I know sometimes we can’t control every single mosquito getting into the room but we had a few more than expected and it was bit irritating at night.
Beautifully designed property and rooms near the rock beach. Amazing staff who’s always checking in on you. The food, the cocktails and the overall quality was very refreshing to see. The GM Mr Dino was also gracious enough to spend time with us which was very pleasant. Would be visiting them again including some of the many other CGH properties they have in India

Beautiful architecture, serene courtyards, and elegant rooms create a truly relaxing stay. The staff are warm, attentive, and make every guest feel special.Rooftop breakfasts was great. Perfect location makes it greater for families — just minutes from the Promenade and local cafes. A peaceful, heritage-filled escape you’ll want to return to.

BelgiumNumerous mosquitoes are present in the room because the doors and windows are not sealed hermetically.
The hotel is very clean, as well as the swimming pool. The hotel is located very close to the beach (not possible to swim in the sea, not really a sand beach) in the French area. The restaurant was excellent, offering dishes of superb quality that were both delicious and beautifully presented. Congratulations to the chefs Aarun and Vellepandi and entire team for the great dishes prepared. We had the opportunity to see the kitchen and I can confirm it was a very clean kitchen. The staff was extremely kind and helpful.

United StatesEveryone on the staff was super attentive. My daughter had broker her foot and everyone on the staff was already aware that she would be in a wheelchair. They had arranged for one that we could take out with us - and everyone went out of their way to make sure she was taken care of. From the font desk to the restaurant staff - everyone seemed to be in sync with the individual needs of the guests.

IndiaI stayed at this hotel with my 7-year-old daughter and we truly enjoyed the warm hospitality. It felt like a home away from home — very comfortable and welcoming. The hotel has a child-friendly atmosphere, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The chefs here are highly trained and experienced — the food was simply excellent. The location is another big plus, right in the posh heritage French Quarter (White Town), which added charm to our vacation. We really had a great time here in Pondicherry and would definitely love to return.
