IndiaThe restaurant in Sarovar Portico had become a family favourite when I was posted in Lucknow about twenty years ago. Later, when I was transferred out of Lucknow, we would still drop into Sarovar for dinner whenever we visited the city. When my wife and I visited Lucknow recently, we opted to stay in Sarovar, because of its central location as well as our happy memories of the meals we had enjoyed there. The check-in process was smooth and our bags were promptly delivered. The room was fairly spacious and it had elegant furniture that one associates with the 1950s or 1960s. The lighting was adequate and the switches were well accessible (in some hotels it becomes hard to locate the light switches, but luckily this was not one of those hotels!) The bathroom was reasonably sized and well lit. Soap and shampoo were offered in large dispensers mounted on the wall in the shower cubicle. This is certainly more eco-friendly than the tiny bottles of toiletries that most other hotels offer. The eco-friendly streak continues with drinking water – they provide their own water in glass bottles instead of the branded bottles offered elsewhere. An elevator was provided, but we preferred to take the staircase. Coming to the food, we found the buffet breakfast was adequate, though not lavish. We also sampled the buffet dinner with our local guests – the food was great, but the spread was not very large. The service was excellent and the food was reasonably priced. On the whole, we had a very good experience of staying in this hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

India1) repetitive one tone music in restaurant....rather boring on the nerves. 2) no tissues in room 3) dining room staff need to ensure tables fully laid (serviettes, glasses etc) before guests sit at an empty table. 4) pepper and salt dispensers should be on table 5) bathroom needs a towel rod for towels. 6) reception needs to learn about various handicraft showrooms/ shops eg zardosi , so as to guide guests. Perhaps keep a brief list of 4 or 5 leading shops in each category, chikan, zardosi etc.
Central location, excellent food in the restaurant ( the best we had in Lucknow) , all staff very polite and customer oriented. The terrace was ideal to sit in the evenings. Car arranged by travel desk was very good.

CanadaThe TV and WiFi could use some improvement. When we arrived in our room the TV was not functional. Although the staff soon fixed it the dual controls were confusing. The internet was slow. Compared to other comparable hotels in India we found our package at Sarovar to be overpriced.
Excellent location, just a short walk from the Hazratganj shopping area and (if you are willing to brave the traffic) within walking distance from most of old Lucknow. The staff were wonderful and attentive.
