How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat continental breakfast selection with a stunning view of Achill. Great facilities in the room (loved having a fridge and kettle) and the bed was very comfy. Great viewing of the island from the bedroom too. Great location to explore the island from.
Thank you for such a lovely reveiw..

Verified reviewLocation is excellent for accessing all the main areas of Achill. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Communal breakfast area was great as was accessible all day and not just during set breakfast slot. Loads of boardgames to keep entertained in the evenings and smart tv in room (Green Room)

Verified reviewVery relaxed friendly hosts.. decor in bedrooms a bit sketch (kids Christmas duvet cover on single bed and dated colour scheme but spotlessly clean
All the breakfast items were from Lidl. I liked the self serve breakfast but it was v basic.. Lidl sliced pan boxed Lidl cereal and cheapest ham.. would be better to offer better quality or homemade bread for instance not just Lidl basics.
Sorry we didnt quite hit your high expectations but you seem a little pernickity in your critiques.... The colour scheme in our rooms is the red and green of Mayo, so hardly dated unless you want to address the whole county on that one...the kids duvet was Frozen, Disney... Lidl fayre is perfectly good quality. Very popular in Westport, unfortunately, especially with the cost of living inflating so quickly we need to be careful with purchasing the best value for money in order to try and keep our own prices in check. The nearest 'M and S' is in Galway and would require a 6 hr round trip.. The extra cost would need to be passed on to our guests and it is impractical. it is also worth noting that during the recent product recall from a particular food manufacturer. The products recalled affected ALL supermarkets in Ireland, Supervalu, Dunnes, Aldi, Tesco, Lidl etc, thus demonstrating they all source from the same supplier, essentially the same products, they're just presented and branded differently. You are paying for the brand perception NOT the product quality.... Our breakfast is hardly basic. You forgot to mention, choice of hot drinks, fresh ground coffee or instant, various teas and cadbury hot chocolate, oj, yogurt muesili, granola and ample fresh fruit of usually oranges, bananas, apples, conference pears and melon. We do also leave quite generous amounts out to gelp yourself rather than a strictly portion controlled 10g of cheese and 2 slices of bread each.... Perhaps stay at the excellent Bervie next time for only 165 euro per night. You paid less than 80.

Verified reviewGreat location no easy access and met by host.
Felt more like hostel accommodation rather than a Airbnb
We are NOT an Airbnb, nor do we claim to be...we are a homestay and very homely as many other reveiws attest to, unless your home has sevants to serve you a cooked breakfast which you were clearly unhappy about. It's help yourself to a plentiful continental breakfast....but making your own breakfaat was too much...as was reading about what you had booked. Apart from making it clear on booking website we sent you several messages at the time of booking AND before your arrival to digest how we do breakfast, yet you weren't able to do that. In future please read details of bookings to avoid disappointment and unnecessary slating of someone else's livelihood because you couldnt take two minutes to read a message.....thank you.

Verified reviewLocation View . Note a bit of a walk to main areas ... but knew this in advance
Room chosen as it had a balcony. But entire room taken up by bath... blocked access. Also concrete base of bath a death trap !!! particulary at night. Unable to sit up in bed to watch TV as bed set under alcove Bed clothes very old and stained. Shower not working as should . Should tell guests that there is a cat in the house .... as it jumped in window of kitchen as we were eating
Dear Dick Thanks for your helpful feedback. The bath, like the balcony, is a special feature of the room enjoyed by many guests for A Chill...perhaps fewer hours spent in the local pub would help in the clarity of vision and need to visit the toilet during the night, making it a special feature rather than a hazard. Good job you avoided the balcony after the pub... The TV is absolutely watchable from the bed. All bed linen is washed after each stay. The shower works perfectly well and I made a point of asking you how the room was after your first night. You assured me it was al fine and no problem....as for the cat, we have referred it for extra training on 'acceptable ways to enter the building'. Have you ever tried training a cat though? Also, we could have secured all the windows and left all the fruit to go off on the searing heat giving you an additional reason to complain...
