Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EthiopiaThe coffee could be improved—currently, it's an instant mix with milk and excessive sugar. Guests who prefer freshly brewed coffee might find it lacking. The shower in my room had very low water pressure, which made it difficult and time-consuming to use. There was no soap provided (hand or body wash), which made showering on the first day a bit inconvenient.
Big clean rooms with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was decent. The hotel offers four different set menus to choose from, which is a nice variety for a short stay. It might get repetitive if you're staying longer, but it was perfectly fine for my 4-night visit.

New ZealandThe property is an exceptional oasis, quiet, safe. Rooms were clean, comfortable, private and an absolute gem for the money paid. Pool was amazing and even better than the photos. Owner was away, but his lovely staff Hernie was an absolute gem, friendly, always available onsite or by Watsapp, very responsive, just exceptional When asked she helpfully arranged taxi trips to Port, scooter hire, etc. The owner gave us great contact - Tommy for guided surfing which was just 200m down the road. Gurpuk village is awesome, and our house was within 5mins walk of at least 4 really nice very tasty and well priced cafes/restaurants. It was a nice place to hang with our family with some close walkable beaches and we then used scooters to explore other beaches further afield and ride into Kuta 10mins away. Truly amazing experience and would stay again.

AustraliaJust need to be aware a scooter or motorbike is a good option if you're staying here. Russel very kindly helped arrange it and cheap cost too. Thanks again!
Great spot to stay to explore South Lombok. Russel was very responsive when I reached out and great to have a chat with in the morning at breaky time. He has some awesome local suggestions; Ashtari, Fin, good beaches for surfing - highly recommend staying here.

MalaysiaBreakfast was absolutely fantastic value, huge portions with fruit, Solis is an amazing cook. Breakfast timings have a little bit of flexibility to them, so perfect for a good brunch if you're out for a morning surf. Place is clean, pillows and bed were comfortable. You can get a thicker blanket if you're cold. The AC was great, cooled the room down perfectly and I like it really cold. For sensitive sleepers like me: If you live in the city near traffic, even from a high rise, the surrounding noise here is comparable. You may hear roosters/bike or car pass outside from time to time, and a faint sound from the nearby mosque during prayer times, all easily ignored. No loud party sounds. Top tier light blackout, if I didn't leave a blind open I would sleep till midday. My room had an adequate setup for remote working - a desk with plug points, next to natural light and closest to the router. Internet was stable and had sufficient bandwidth for remote work for my entire stay. I had no issue running video conference calls with multiple attendees. Good enough for Netflix and Stremio. Wifi connection was a very stable 15 Mbps. Data and phone reception are also excellent. Russell is an excellent host, always happy to sit and have a chat with you. He can organize anything you need for your surf trip - boats, boards, bikes and lessons. Rates for these are a fair market price, comparable to whatever you'll likely be able to get yourself except without the hassle. He's one of Gerupuk's first professional surf photographers, and part of the reason why the breaks here attract the crowds it does. He's planning to get back into surf and drone photography, so you can probably arrange a shoot with him for a competitive price. If you're lucky, he might even surf with you. The location is perfect if you're looking to surf Gerupuk and Tanjung Aan, 1 min bike ride to the docks where you take the boat out to the breaks.

GermanyBathroom would have been a lil better with shampoo in addition to the soap. Pool could've been cleaned from pollen and insects + an extra towel for sun beds would've been great, but nothing too major otherwise.
The Wave House is at the "entrance" to the little fisher and surf town Gerupuk where my partner wanted to surf - which is why we came here in the first place. And for that it's perfect: The owner Russell is a really kind person, has welcomed us very sweetly, helped my partner get a surf board and offered his own boat to get to the many surf spots. One day, they even planned to surf together but due to miscommunication that for some reason didn't happen (boat didn't show up, my partner couldn't find Russell). The rooms are small and cosy, a little dark, but have everything you'd need - even a dvd player with some movies to watch. AC has a night mode where you can turn off the light display, so the room falls into complete darkness which is ideal for better sleep. Breakfast banana pancakes were by far the best pancakes I've had in my life (and I LOVE pancakes and eat a lot of them). Renting motorbikes was possible directly at the Wave House and it was cheaper than in other places. Not much to do around Gerupuk apart from surfing and eating, with some nice local restaurants nearby. After checkout, Russell let us stay a little longer in the room and we got ordered a taxi by the staff to our next destination in Kuta for a very smooth transition.

AustraliaAmazing value for money. Secure accommodation with lockable metal gate at the entrance, plus comfortable bed with good air con and reliable wifi. Hot water showers with great water pressure made it such a relaxing place to come back to after a big day of surfing and exploring the island. Shoutout to the property caretaker Sulis, who was really lovely and accommodating during the stay.

NetherlandsThe bathroom had smelled a little but not bothering me much.
The breakfast was delicious and the accommodation was located on a road close to the big road and a really nice surfers restaurant called “Fin’s”. The owner Russell is a really nice Australian guy who goes surfing a lot. He brought us along with him and a guide to learn how to surf. Waves are great and the guide was really good! The owner takes time getting to know the visitor.

United StatesThe daily 4:45 AM call to prayer forced us to use a speaker and background sound effects. Bring earplugs if you want to sleep until sunrise. This is a Muslim community, and it comes with the territory. Every property in town will offer this same experience.
Wave House was a great stay. We intentionally sought a minimalist room, and this was a great value. The AC was cold, and the bed was comfortable. The pool was clean and refreshing and a welcome amenity. Breakfast was simple but fresh and tasty. My partner had the omelet daily, and fresh-cut fruit was always available. The location was secure, and the staff was friendly. Russell is a conscious host and ensured we had what we needed for a great stay. They arranged for scooters and a surf boat at lower than the walk-up rates.

NetherlandsEverything but most important: Russell. Russell is an amazing guy who knows everything about surfing in the region. He has his own boat, so he can arrange a ride to the surf spot and a surf guide. We booked for 2 days and we ended up staying for 9 days. We felt at home! Selice cooks the best pancakes for breakfast. The pool adds extra value to the place.

United StatesOne thing to note is that there is a mosque in the area, so the chanting can be a bit noisy. Bringing ear plugs is a good idea, but it's important to note that this is common across Lombok island.
I recently stayed at Wave House in Gerupuk and had an amazing time thanks to the hospitality of the host, Russel. He went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and safe, and his staff was equally helpful in organizing a scooter for me and serving delicious breakfast. The accommodation was impeccably clean and well-maintained, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a hot shower, which is not so common in Gerupuk. The wifi was also very stable and fast, which was important to me as I was working during my stay and had no problem connecting to the internet. I would highly recommend Wave House to anyone visiting Gerupuk and would definitely stay here again if I have the chance. Thank you, Russel, for making my stay at Wave House so enjoyable!
