How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBreakfast was delicious. We have dietary issues, ie no gluten, no dairy, no grains, and they were sincere and creative in their efforts to provide what we needed, including vegetable soup for breakfast!! We were very grateful.
The mattress was not great for us.

Verified reviewThe nature surroundings
In the morning, the neighbour blasted a loud musics as early as 6am. I really dont mind the roosters and birds to wake up to but this, totally put me off.

Verified reviewI really regret not staying one more night in this beautiful paradise. I wish I booked at least one more night just to enjoy the view of the gardens by the pool and walk around by the rice terraces. Patrick and his team are wonderful. They went beyond any expectations to make our experience special and to care for us. I have a lot of food allergies and needed halal chicken and when I informed them beforehand they prepared delicious breakfast, dinners and even dessert to accommodate our diet. It is in a secluded, quiet village and is a perfect getaway for relaxation.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay here. The room was a good size with a comfortable bed. Bathroom was spacious. Our room overlooked the lovely pool with views out over the coast and countryside. The location was very peaceful and allowed for a good night sleep. The host Patrick was very friendly and informative. Would definitely stay again. You do need some form of transport to get around we hired one of their scooters.
We could use the kitchen but it is in need of a good clean.

Verified reviewWe stayed in Villa Markisa for 3 days. Patrick, the host, is a great guy - very helpful and knowledgeable and happy to provide local recommendations and connects with guides / drivers - all of which were well priced and spot on. The breakfast here is exceptional - it is quite a spread. While it is in a location which is slightly more difficult to get to, highly recommended for a nice stay in North Bali

Verified reviewNice location of the property, but I thought it was nearer to the Sekumpul waterfall when I've made a reservation, so it was a bit of a disappointment when I couldn't walk to it in the morning. The landlord helped me to find a driver there, which is harder to do in North of Bali and also I had a good Balinese massage there by the pool. The pool is great and good to swim in it. The dinner and the breakfast were both delicious. The only minus point was the smell of the sheets (smell of dampness).

Verified reviewThe most unique tropical and true surrounding if Bali. Peaceful and calming. The dinner was exceptional traditional Balinese food, can't fault it.
Possibly offering lunch would be lovely. Otherwise there are no faults as the staff always tried to make sure you were looked after.

Verified reviewThe villa is located in a remote area and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the rice fields. Breakfast and dinner is offered at the villa which is good as there is no place to eat in proximity. Best feature of this place is the garden and the pool. The garden is amazing with different species of tropical trees and plants. If you want to see a different side of Bali, then Marchisa can be an option. Overall positive experience.
Poor hygiene. We stayed in the room next to the pool and there was a constant bad smell coming from the drainage. The sheet had a stain of blood. Please do not say is Bali and we should accept everything in terms of hygiene. The walls need repainting in that room. Very difficult to communicate as staff speaks little or no English. It could be a beautiful place but I think staff lacks direction. Hopefully the review will help improving quality overall.

Verified reviewBeautiful and remote scenery and good value for the money
The room itself was quite dark, was not too clean and smelled bad. There’s no A/C, but the fan in the room does the job. The communication was also lacking a bit, but overall, for the price, you still get a good value for the surroundigs

Verified reviewPatrick, the host is welcoming and engaging with guests. He showed me the wonderful natural food jungle surrounding the villa, and explained the production of the local palm alcohol. Patrick and his staff genuinely enjoy assisting and communicating with their guests. The French crepes and local fruits for breakfast are delicious. And dinner at the Villa is always delicious. I was without my own transport, so Patrick helped me organise day trips to the waterfalls and lake batur, and to another village where craftsmen make the instruments for gamellan performances. There's also plenty of opportunities to relax by the pool or have a wonderfully relaxing massage from the masseuse who attends the Villa on request. The local village is a pleasant 20 -30 minute walk, depending on the route. The local villagers are friendly and helpful. There are not many tourists in this area yet...enjoy it while you can! I spent 3.5 weeks at Villa Markisa and will be back again. The bed and pillows are the most comfortable I've experienced in my 5 months in Bali. I had the double room with fan, no aircon and it was perfect for temperature control and ventilation. The triple rooms have air-conditioning. I was also doing a lot of online study and the wifi was fast and reliable.
Not a problem, but just for information. You are in a rural area, so dogs barking and roosters crowing is to be expected. The sounds of nature are all around.

Verified reviewPatrick was an amazing host! Breakfast and dinner were cooked by his talented chef and was always a delicious delight. The pool was right beside our room which felt like we had it all to ourselves surrounded by such beautiful nature. Bonus was the super cute kitten. I will be returning in January with my close friends – can't wait!

Verified reviewIt’s a lost, untamed paradise. It’s peaceful and serene. The setting is surreal, beauty surrounds you and extends as far as your eye can see. It’s clean and comfortable and feels like home. The fruit and food is delicious. Patrick the owner is the perfect host. He is friendly and attentive and his passion for the village, the people and children is admirable. Patrick graciously took me for a walk in the jungle and explored the village. His genuine love and appreciation of his villa and the beauty of nature is heartwarming! I extended my stay for one more night, I just did not want to leave!
There was nothing I didn’t like!

Verified reviewI recently stayed at one of Patrick’s rooms and had an exceptional experience. The room was comfortable and well-equipped with everything we needed. The hospitality was impeccable—Patrick is a wonderful host who is always ready to assist with any questions you might have. I highly recommend this destination for anyone looking to discover an authentic Bali experience. Patrick’s home is nestled in a beautiful small valley, offering stunning views at sunrise. If you want to experience the true essence of Bali, this is the place to be.

Verified reviewAfter +20 years of travel experience as independent traveler and +15 years experience as hotel manager, this is doubtless one of the best accomodations I have ever been to. I mainly would highlight the professionality of Patrick, the person in charge, truly focused on guest satisfaction. The place has it all, the standard of service, cleanliness, maintenance, gardening, activities, room comfort, remote working facilities, food, breakfast is just unbeatable, hard to find not only in Bali, but anywhere in the world for these rates. I know how hard you have to work to keep it up, so I just must show my respect and say "Congratulations Villa Markisa Pakisan team"
