How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis place is a scam - unsafe, dishonest, and not to be trusted. During our stay, money was stolen from a wallet that had been left inside a bag in our room. Later, we discovered that a large amount had gone missing. When we asked about the security footage, the staff immediately claimed that no one had entered the room - even before we explained what had happened. We were then told that parts of the footage were conveniently unavailable, and the staff member we spoke to disappeared for an hour before returning without any explanation. We eventually reported the incident to the police. After the incident, we no longer felt safe and decided to check out 10 nights earlier than planned. However, the owner refused to provide any refund, citing the property’s strict non-refundable policy - even under these circumstances. The overall condition of the rooms is might be better. The mattress is uncomfortable and worn out, with springs poking through. The bathroom door has a glass panel with no curtain, so bright sunlight pours in early in the morning and makes it hard to sleep. Towels were only changed after repeated requests, the TV didn’t work, and they wasn’t able to fix it, and the internet was weak for work. There are also two active construction sites nearby, making it very noisy during the day. What used to be a peaceful pool area with a jungle view now faces unfinished buildings and loud machinery. there are far better and safer places to stay. We would never return.

Verified reviewBreakfast was amazing and the view too. Friendly staff. Overall peaceful stay
The last bit of the entry road to the place is dark. So difficult to come back at night. Vehicle cannot enter. Bathroom could be improved.

Verified reviewThe room upstair which is like a small house was spacy, clean and so confortable. The bed as the small balcony are your best place to rest after a long day in Ubud. Also, the desk in this room was a true one. With space and a good chair if you need to work with a laptop it us perfect.

Verified reviewProperty is definitely nicer in the photos, but location is great to be close to the main center. Bed is comfortable but bathroom in the upstairs room was not the best, but outside balcony was nice. Pool was quite chilly and after one dip balcony was nicer to hangout and relax. The absolute BEST thing about the property is the staff. Ayu was just the most lovely human being and made our stay so incredible.
Looks nicer in the photos. Now a little warn and bathroom was disappointing, but bed was super comfortable and clean.

Verified reviewAs a young couple visiting Bali for the first time Uma Kayu exceeded our expectations. The staff, particularly Ayu, was very friendly and helpful when making plans and learning about Balinese culture. We really liked the beautiful floating breakfast and the traditional homemade dishes we had for a bit extra cost (1,5€ per dish). The bathroom in the downstairs room was particularly beautiful as it didn't have a celling and yet we didn't have any issues with insects. The geckos were doing a great job. The next time we go to Bali we'll be staying here mainly because of the impeccable service!
The alley that leads to the hotel is under construction and the first thing you see on arrival isn't the beautiful hotel.

Verified reviewVery unique stay… rooms had plenty of charm and a great pool surrounded by jungle. Close enough to the center of Ubud but still peaceful.
Being in the jungle there are a lot of animal noises all night.

Verified reviewComfortable bed, spacious room, drinking water provided. Close to multiple spas, restaurants and attractions.
Construction noise from work next door (~10ft away). Outside bathroom is nice during the dry season, not so fun during rainy season.

Verified reviewPrice is good. Location is ok, on the side road of main area The balcony has a good view.
Not very clean. There might be bugs in the sheet, I got a lot of bites overnight. I found some black stuff on my pillow, looks like rat shit or from other animal.

First, we stayed on the second floor, but one night we saw a big rat!!! in the room and asked to change the room. However, the room on the first floor smelled really bad. The staff and we tried different ways to eliminate the smell, but nothing helped. Also, the towels were dirty, overall, the room was dirty as well. We had to buy another hotel and leave earlier. Do not recommend this option.

Little far from the center of the town, but grab taxi comes soon so it’s not a big problem

Verified reviewI loved the staff, Wayan and her friend were very friendly and helpful! Also, it was very quiet and roosters nearby somehow only improved the tranquility of the place. There is an amazing garden to walk around and ponder at life. Overall a great place.
Breakfast was not very big (but quite tasty). The egg was missing on the noodles the first day but it was corrected later on without me even realizing the issue the first time. Also, the outside bathroom has been getting some rain so it was required to always have towels at the door to dry the legs when returning to the room from the bathroom. Not a major issue but worth mentioning :)

Verified reviewI absolutely loved my stay at Umah Kayu Ubud! It’s the perfect peaceful retreat—far enough from the hustle and bustle of the main street to feel tranquil, yet close enough to walk there with ease. The hosts were so warm and accommodating, and the amenities were spot on. One of the highlights was being able to order breakfast to my room each morning—such a nice touch! They also offer in-room massages at a very reasonable price, which added to the relaxing vibe. But my absolute favorite part? The stunning infinity pool overlooking the lush jungle. It was a dream and the perfect spot to unwind. 10/10—would definitely come back! I’ve already recommended this place to friends. If you’re visiting Ubud, do yourself a favour and check it out!
