How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe staff was super nice and friendly. Always trying to involve us in their evening activities or offering us food they made. Also it was a very good position for staying far from the busy centre, we had the best sleep!

Verified reviewThe common areas and pool area were gorgeous! The staff were super accommodating too. We had booked a mixed dorm but I think there might have been a glitch with booking.com because they had no more mixed dorm beds available, so the staff but me and my friends in a private group room for no extra charge. They were super kind and willing to help us despite the fluke!
The pressure in the shower was a bit odd, the water sprayed everywhere.

Verified reviewAwesome place with great staff and respectful people! The hostel is well-equipped and very beautiful. It can be complicated to go around if you don't have your own scooter (not lots of sometimes in the area). Had great sleep - this is not a "party hostel" but they have a pool table and a great swimming pool to hang out with the people and great bonds! Would definitively go back if I had to stay in Ubud.

Verified reviewI stayed one month at Ubud Backpacker Hostel and am so happy I did. The vibe at the hostel overall is wholesome, fun and friendly, you can find a tranquil peace and at the same time a fun social environment. There’s billiards almost every night and barbecue night once a week. The accomodation have A/C & the facilities & beds are changed/cleaned daily. The staff are always so helpful and friendly. They are really helpful with anything you need and offer great advice/suggestions about activities.

Verified reviewReading the reviews make me a bit indecisive but turns out when I come here, surprised with an old Balinese building that has a lot of details, swimming pool and pool table anytime I want, fun BBQ party and chilling with other travelers! Great hospitality from the staffs, my favv is Bobo (golden retriever dog) that steals everything he can 😂😂 Bed is comfortable and room is cold, intend to stay one night and decided to extend!
Sometimes a bit packed if there’s 10 people in the room, but thats why I stay in a hostel rather than privates

Verified reviewThe girl at the reception was very friendly, and the kitchen was equipped with a coffee grinder, a V60 filter, and a blender.
Unfortunately, my stay was disappointing. The facilities were old and dirty, and the attached bathroom smelled of mold. Despite quiet hours starting at 10 pm, loud party music continued until 1 am, making it difficult to sleep. There was no breakfast, although house rules indicated otherwise. The bedding and interior were of low quality polyester, as other hostels at the same price in Ubud had linen curtains and cotton bedding. I had booked for two weeks but left after three nights for the reasons explained above. When I requested the return of my 100K lock and towel deposit, the receptionist initially refused, claiming he didn’t know what it was. Only after asking him multiple times, did he check the folder I told the other employee had put it in (stapled together with my check-in info), and reluctantly return it without apology. However, the manager was very kind and understanding when I informed him of my early departure and offered a 50% refund, as stated in the booking conditions. Unfortunately, after my departure, the property denied the refund via Booking.com, and despite months of follow-up, I still haven't received it. While a few staff members were nice, overall customer service and facilities need significant improvement. I cannot recommend this hostel in the state it was during my stay.

Verified reviewBackpacker Hostel was a highlight of our trip in Ubud, it basically became our home away from home and we ended up staying over 3 weeks! It was a peaceful hub that in some evenings transformed into a lovely social hub. Friends who had to move on would always come back in the evenings to hang out and we all joked how we leave to our next destinations but always end up back at this hostel. Helpful lovely staff, kitchen is super useful, lovely pool area and just all round great vibe. We love Ubud Backpacker Hostel ❤️ and its value for money. They put so much effort into making it a great stay for people and try to accommodate you and nothing is ever too much. We had so many nights to remember here thank you family x

Verified reviewStaff was kind. It has a pool and a kitchen, which is good.
The hostel is unfortunately dirty. Toilets smell of mould and was dirty, kitchen is very dirty, there was not enough soap to wash the dishes and plates/utiensiles were dirty. It’s a pity cause the place has a lot of potential.

Some strange rules like not having your backpack in the room and hot water only on for some hours of the day. The bathroom is also smelly and was always wet

The bathroom was disgusting, it was dirty and constantly wet, stank of damp so bad that it made the room smell and everything felt dirty. Beds aren’t the most comfortable and the sheet was stained. Generally not cleaned or maintained.

Verified reviewThe hostel is located in a quiet street, but still at walking distance from the centre and plenty of good restaurants and shops. It has a nice outside area and a great pool. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I met fun people at the hostel, but the one I loved most was Bobo, the owner’s golden retriever.
The bathroom is old and could have been cleaner. There was a lot of turnover during my 9-day stay and I had a feeling the sheets were not always changed in between guests.
