How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was convenient for accessing the ferry port in Serangan. Very basic accommodation, appropriate for the cheap price. Perfect if you want somewhere close to the ferry to stay for a night. The woman who owns the place is lovely, she helped suggest ferry companies for me to book my ticket with.
Rooms were dark with minimal natural light. As mentioned for the price you pay it’s what you would expect. On a side note, I booked this accommodation, thinking it was closer to Sanur than what it was (not walking distance). I would only stay here one night as I didn’t feel that there was so much for me to do here. However, it was interesting to see a very local area.

Verified reviewI went to this hotel cos booking.com said it was beachfront ..but it wasn't..it was opposite the water but had a house inbetween where the owner had chickens and Cockerells outside in cages in the boiling sun with no shade and had a dog tied up to a tree with no water do I gave the dog 2 bottles of water which she gulped down ,complained to the owner then had to leave as couldn't stay there .
The animal's tied up and in cages in the house infront of the hotel. I saw the room, it was ok.but decide to leave and go back to Sanur
Hi Susan, I would like to clarify your comment saying that the owner has chickens and dogs, I have already told you that the chickens and dogs belong to my neighbor who lives next to the homestay and it has nothing to do with the homestay and it is none of the homestay's business.

Verified reviewPros: near port and seafood warungs. Owners are very hands on and very nice. Ibu even waiting for me when my checkin time is almost 2am. Cons: no individual light and outlet and privacy curtain. But no issue for me as I stayed only to sleep.

Verified reviewi picked the location because the reviews were excellent. and indeed it was very very very clean. i could feel the pride of Anne holding her homestay so amazingly clean. Anne had scrubbed everything spotless. i could feel that there would not even be any bugs (except some pretty aggressive mosquitoes). I moved to a 4 star hotel afterwards and i can say that in comparison this homestay was extremely clean. the problem was the moisture. pieces of the wall were falling off. i understand that they can’t do much about the rain. i debated whether i should even write a review. the only reason i am writing it is that i am looking for a place for my next trip and it is so helpful to read the real reviews. i suppose if i had read a review like this i could have prepared by bringing bedsheets that would be insulating. and thermal underwear. and maybe an extra sweater or two. December is the rainy season. the whole island suffers. truly this was a “palace” compared to other home stays i have been over the years. i would argue that this was the best place in the island in terms of cleaning. the problem is that there is probably nothing in the island for a foreign visitor. too bad. i had dreamed about bicycling around the island. the location is very picturesque. and Anne was going to provide me with a bicycle. i was just not prepared for the moisture and the cold. i had one jacket and too sarongs and a warm comfy dress that i wore instead of my nightgown and the air condition on 30oC heat was on. and i was shivering all night. i had no rest. i was there for a conference and i knew i could not survive without sleep. this is a fundamental flaw in the construction since there is no insulation or a mot draining the foundations of the building so the water of the rain gets up in the room. as i said the mold was scrubbed clean. the walls were repainted. the bathroom was spotless. this was an on going situation because of the rain.
the moisture was off the charts. the smell of musky was strong. the moisture was so penetrating that i was chilled to the bone and i could not sleep at night. i only stayed one night and i could not sleep. i moved out after one night. i could not even ask for a refund because of the no refund policy.
