Ongoing building works up the valley with some late night working. Cant be helped tbh. Certainly didnt deter us, in fact with increased our stay by a night. Ongoing renovations as this hotel gears up for its 100 years anniversary - this was 3 years away when we visited.

Friendly staff, lovely location, great food, very relaxing

Area around the pool and Spa needs attention. Cracked and missing tiles. Spa is quirky and located in a grotto type setting. Access is uneven so care is needed.

The room was fabulous - spacious and very clean. Setting and view was beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was nice, particularly the breakfast. Massages were perfect after a long flight.

I didn't like our room. It had an interconnecting door to the room next door. The people next door were noisy. Definitely not what I had expected. I also found that some of the reception staff didn't speak English very well. Everyone was very friendly though.

    Gorgeous location. Friendly staff

Unfortunately maintenance works are ongoing at the pool area, near our room, it was disturbing. The swimming pool needs urgent renovation, missing and broken tiles.

The hotel is in an amazing, jungle-effect garden on the bank of a river. The hotel had a very good impression on us: spacious, clean room, kettle, tea, coffee are available. Really nice, colonial-style buildings and area. Staff very helpful and polite. Towels were changed every day. Perfectly located, really quiet, even at night. Breakfast was superb, hot and cold drinks and food, bit of indonesian but mainly continental options.

Breakfast had no table service, which is not befitting for such a classic hotel.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wifi did not work in room, had to sit outside, tv reception was like watching a snow storm, water dripping from a/c all through the room, toilet hose leaking, faucet was not fixed to sink.... After 2 days of maintenance coming in and out of room they figured out the problems, and that was the room that had just been updated 2 months prior

The spa under hotel is fantastic

Property is going through renovations so there was a bit of noise during the day near my room and some of the walking areas were cluttered with building materials which took away from the general peaceful vibe of the place / enjoyment while sitting on the balcony or by the pool. Also, there are lots and lots of steps at this resort as it is perched on and spread across a hill. I had about 6 flights of steps to walk up to get to the exit / breakfast every day. Some rooms seem to be more accessible than others.

Nice hotel just out of the hustle and bustle of the main shopping areas of Ubud. Peacefully situated above a river with views of the trees around. Really good breakfast buffet. Rooms are clean and spacious. The spa baths were a special treat - with sauna, hot and cold baths and a steam room - all in a gorgeous grotto. Close to the bottom of the ridge walk.

The room underneath us was being renovated so on days we wanted to lay in, we had banging and electric tools being used. This went through till 6pm at night. We just accepted this as they have to get the work done sometime and we’re grateful for the newly renovated room. Also it was worth being right near the river. Worth asking for a room away from renovations if this is a problem.

The room was beautiful, better than expected as it had been newly renovated. The bathroom was massive with a lovely big bath. The room was huge and had a beautiful balcony where we enjoyed laying to take in the views and listening to the river. I had multiple spa treatments which were excellent and absolutely loved the hot and cold whirlpools and sauna. Breakfast was very good. Staff were very helpful when needed.

Many, many, many stairs. Going anywhere, you'll face stairs. WiFi went out for a day and could not (then) be resolved by "engineer" tending to problem. Tiles in bathroom has some "funny" dirt spots and need a deep clean and good scrub. Shower is in bathtub and pressure is not quite there yet. We had an electricity black-out for almost an hour one evening after hard rain. All in the dark. Be fit if you want to walk to main street in town. No restaurants in immediate area.

I loved the friendly and very helpful staff. Best in Indonesia. Loved the atmosphere of the hotel. The theme and cement/ rock images were special. Great location in the jungle. Nice themed (dance) evenings with buffet dinner. Good breakfast options at buffet. Nice hot water thermal spa under covered rock overhangs. Fun Indonesian themed carved wooden statues at every room. Very private and secluded rooms. The rooms are large. Lovely fragrance sprayed in bathrooms.

We stayed in the premium raja room, Banyan 2. The view down to the river was amazing and hearing it through the night was so relaxing. The room as too dark for me though, even with all the lights turned on so adding a sky light would be super. The bathroom also needs some ventilation or extractor fan because it gets very steamy and hot in there. Also, the pool could be so much better. Updated better sun loungers and more of them. They’re very tired and worn. The pool needs major fixing with all the broken tiles, and a bit more of a proper bar with a nice bar vibe and low key music really improve the area. I think the charge for the room was too high in light of all the things that need fixing. Management needs to look into this asap.

Absolutely gorgeous property grounds. You’re right in the middle of the jungle with a river running down below. The spa is something else, with such a beautiful location where they perform the massage. Absolutely divine. Breakfast was lovely. Staff were super kind and welcoming as always in Bali.

It wasn’t a problem for me but if you have any mobility issues or knee problems this is not the place for you. There are a lot of steps to climb to get to rooms, pool and dining area. It’s part of the beauty of the place. The pool area has tiles missing which is not a good look and there aren’t enough sun loungers for the number of guests.

A really beautiful hotel set in magnificent grounds. The staff are lovely and helpful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.

There's some ongoing renovation in the hotel and one morning it got pretty noisy right in front of my room. Advice to the hotel staff: Please have better separation between occupied rooms and construction area.

The hotel has a very nice atmosphere with its beautiful garden and authentic rooms. It was very calming to fall asleep to the noise of the river. The spa was also relaxing where I got refreshed by a nice massage. The breakfast was good, it had both western and Indonesian options.

The hotel generally need a good renovation. It is iconic hotel but is very old.The pool tiles are broken even in the kids part and it cut my daughters fingers and toes. There is another pool but it's like abandoned and is spring pool so nobody use it.The pool is soo deep and small sized and it wasn't clean&clear at all.

All the staff were kind and gentle, caring. The breakfast buffet was good with tropical fruits but it could be better. The location was good.Enough close to city centre by walking distance. The first room that they gave to us was not good after we said they changed it.
