How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStaff were very helpful and attentive.
Kitchen was dirty. One of our rooms had a strong mould smell. Parasols covered in mould and did not feel happy to use the pool.

Verified reviewNice and clean outdoor area, which ended up overshadowing even some major downsides. The breakfast was tasty – the pancakes were excellent. A plus was the option to rent a scooter for 100k (we got a better deal – 90k because we rented it for 5 days). The staff were friendly. Wi-Fi was great. The location is close to the center and not in huge ttaffic jams.
However, we were welcomed by a terrible smell of mold and dampness. The bed was so soaked with it that my pajamas smelled, and I kept waking up at night because of the odor and damp feeling. After three days, we managed to air it out a bit – we asked others and it seemed to be a problem especially in the ground floor rooms near the kitchen. The shared kitchen was in bad shape – at least by normal European standards, that’s how I’d describe it. Considering there were three staff members preparing breakfast each morning, the kitchen looked very neglected. Cleaning consisted of sweeping the floor and making the bed. The bathroom looked the same the entire week – meaning it wasn’t cleaned.

Verified reviewI was supposed to stay for 5 days and ended up extending to 15. I loved the rooms, the quietness, the people managing the two villas, and the surroundings. The bathroom in one of the villas could use some renovation, but the water pressure was actually better than in the posher one — so I enjoyed both experiences. It’s close to some excellent restaurants. Totally worth it. Thank you, Sowan, for a wonderful experience in Ubud. 🙏🏻

Verified reviewWe had a great stay at Sowan Ubud! The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Wayan (the owner) was very helpful - on our first day, he ordered us a delicious local lunch, and we were also able to rent a motorbike directly through him. The pool area is lovely and quiet, perfect for relaxing. It’s a family-run place, and you can really feel the warm personal touch throughout.
The only downside is the location as it’s quiet and peaceful, but you’ll need a motorbike or car to get around.

Verified reviewThe location, hotel territory
I firstly got a room upstairs somewhere in the back, where the WiFi signal was very bad. I asked to changed, they did it without any problems. The room they moved me in was not very good (see the picture) and the worst thing it was so loud, coz right next to it after the wall there is some playground with waterslide for kids. And in the next morning I was woken up by these sounds and the stuff who were cleaning and the people near my room - sound isolation is VERY VERY bad. The whole next day I was feeling so weak coz I didn’t get enough sleep. Doesn’t worth the money I payed, I Ubud there are much nicer places for the same price or cheaper

Verified reviewThe stuff was mainly friendly and supportive. The fee reasonable.
The original room had a moldy air (probably coming frome the AC); so I asked for another one: it was better, but the bathroom still moldy. The description and the photos let me expect a natureous and spacy place, it was not. The description „entire villa“ was definitely a lie! because I had a simple room only with shared terasse.

Verified reviewThe host /owner was very good came to pick up from hotel & owner arranged a trip around ubud
The accommodation was advertised as a superior villa with private pool and hot tub ,but was a large room with a bath in the bathroom , bathroom covered in ants and had a strong smell of urine around the toilet on the tiled floor, shared pool with other guests. No lounge area and far away from any facilities need to get taxi to main ubud area

Verified reviewWe really liked the location of the accommodation. It is close to the center of Ubud, but still located in a very quiet area. The room was clean and well equipped. We were able to choose what to get for breakfast from a small „menu“ and it was freshly prepared.
We couldn’t close the Bathroom Door properly and were not opaque.
