How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Verified reviewWe were in a 2 bedroom villa but have also stayed in a 3 bedroom previously . All villas are very spacious with lovely outdoor showers in the ensuites. The pools are very large and sunny. Having an Italian restaurant on site is very convenient . The gardens are lush and well maintained. Staff are excellent
A small issue is that kitchen cupboards are getting a little old and a bit musty from being closed most of the time but that is being a bit picky

Verified reviewIt was very easy and quick to get the keys and enter the accommodation. The villa was terrific and clean. The staff was friendly and responsive. The spa, which is an internal service, was unbeatable.
The security person who guided me to the accommodation upon my arrival was unprofessional and not polite. The external activities I booked through the accommodation weren't the best value for the service. The Layar may consider changing its activities provider.

Few more power points in villa and was a little dark (few more lights would be good).

Verified reviewThe villa was well maintained and featured many great amenities with luxurious design. The staff incredibly were friendly and helpful. Breakfast options were also great and prepared fresh every morning. Location in Seminyak was quiet yet close enough to main entertainment hot spots.
Open air design made us sitting targets for mosquitos. The staff sprayed every day and the AC in the bedrooms all helped.

Regarding mosquitos, unfortunately some times of the year the mosquito situation in Bali is worse, we do try to combat this via weekly fog spraying in all villa gardens (i.e. targeting breeding sites) with a professional mosquito company in Bali, provide mosquito repellant and housekeeping doing daily spraying inside the bedrooms. Verified reviewWelcoming and friendly staff, very responsive to any communication. The grounds are lovely, villas feel spacious and beautiful clean pools in both villas we stayed in. Enjoyed an in-Villa massage which was fantastic and highly recommend. Despite a few tired aspects, still one of the nicest villas we’ve stayed in - 4 bedroom and 3 bedroom. 5-7min walk to eat street and pop out at Ginger Moon restaurant.
Whilst not an issue for me, there are alot of small stairs in various angles within the villa that may catch elderly or kids by surprise.

Verified reviewWe found the proximity to great restaurants, shopping and bars was amazing. The staff were a standout. All of them were so friendly, helpful, engaging and always happy to see us. We stayed in a three bedroom villa where the open plan living area and connection to the pool was amazing. The pool kept us cool during the day and at night the air conditioned bedrooms made sure we were very comfortable when we wanted to sleep. We also enjoyed a great selection from the menu for breakfast every morning in our villa. Overall we loved our time at The Layer and will definitely return.

Verified reviewWe have stayed at The Layar previously and always enjoy it. On this occasion we did note that the property is not being maintained as well as it could be. Boards in the decks were rotting, timber roof tiles were not being replaced amongst a variety of smaller, other things. Not enough problems however, not to consider revisiting as we love this property.
The maintenance level in particular, greater attention could be given to this.

We understand your observations and want to assure you that we are currently undertaking and for the past two years renovations and improvements across the property to ensure it remains in excellent condition for all our guests. As we have 23 x villas, since re opening from Corvid we have been working on renovations and more than 50% of our villas have recently had new pool decks, unfortunately due to the scale of these projects and disturbance to other villas clients and our neighboring properties, these larger projects are generally scheduled during the lower season months. We hope that you will consider staying with us again in the future so you can experience the improvements we are making and please do reach out to us personally before booking so as we may assign you an appropriate villa.
