How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewPerfect location opposite to park entrance. Jun is an exceptional guide and he showed me every single animal species I could only wish for prior to my trip.

Verified reviewOur stay at Tangkoko Ranger Homestay was excellent. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, equipped with air conditioning, and the buffet-style breakfast was tasty. What stood out the most was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the owner. After finding our original accommodation closed, we were able to get a room here spontaneously without any prior notice. The best part of this homestay is the location: directly opposite the entrance to the national park and close to several restaurants. We booked both a morning and an evening tour through the homestay and had our own private guide, ET. He was very respectful towards the animals, which truly impressed us, and still managed to show us everything we had hoped to see. On top of that, he was kind, knowledgeable, and made the tours a great experience. We can highly recommend staying here, especially for visiting Tangkoko National Park.

Verified reviewThe location is great, right across the entrance to the park and a restaurant. The rooms are good, staff is friendly and can arrange guides for visiting the park.
One room had no glass in the window, just slanted planks, so the airconditioning didn't really help as cold air would just escape.

Verified reviewThe best part of Tangkoko Ranger Homestay is it's location - it's just opposite the entrance of the national park. You can't ask for a better location. The room itself was basic but it was comfortable and had everything we needed. Most importantly, Alfrets is super prompt when responding to questions and he booked all our treks into the national park. Super easy to deal with. Would recommend.

Verified reviewCute homestay just in front of the National park entrance. Beautiful gardens and common area where they serve breakfast. Rooms are ok, and staff was really helpful.
Rooms a bit old, shower pressure was low, and no hot water, but I believe that’s what you get almost everywhere so I wouldn’t criticize much.

Verified reviewIt's location in respect to the National Park was second to none, opposite the gates. The rooms are very dated and in need of a lot of updating. Poor water pressure, cold water, light and plug sockets poorly fitted, doors with large gaps. If anyone was talking outside your room you could hear every word. Breakfast was very limited with only two choices

Verified reviewQuiet, nice outside area, clean, mozzie net.
As with any budget form of accomodation there are things that could be better such as a hot shower, somewhere to hang your clothes etc but in the scheme of things it’s not that important.

Verified reviewVery kind and helpfull staff. It's acros the street from the national park entrance. At the first day we found out the AC was not working. We got a new room without any problem. Was very kind.
The breakfast has room for improvement.

Verified reviewLocation opposite the park entrance. Enthusiastic guides Yunos and Saca. Very knowledgeable about birds. Good at spotting the elusive cuscus and tarsier too. Friendly service staff Yolan, Stephanie and driver Uri. Convenient access to Eateria facing the homestay that is run by the owner's relative. The gado-gado is 'sedap' (tasty)! Enjoyed attending the owner's son's first birthday party. Fun watching the guests sing and dance.
The water pressure of the shower is way too low. Took a long time to rinse soap off! As it is a budget homestay, guests should be realistic with their expectations e g. Basic room and breakfast. Would be good if there is an upfront price list of all activities for guests, including laundry and massage services which they've kindly arranged at our request.

Verified reviewThe place is perfect for naturalist enthusiast, being super close to the national park. The room was comfortable enough for me even if a few additional furniture would help Alfrets helped me set up my days with local guides to look for specific birds.
Water is cold there which is normally not an issue. Breakfast was a bit slow to be available in early morning and portions not plentiful.

Verified reviewOur stay here was lovely. Being just across from the National park entrance was great to be able explore the area. We booked a tour with one of the homestay rangers, Et, who was really excellent and found lots of native animals during our full day tour. He had a great telescope which we used to observe the animals from afar. This was definitely the highlight! The rooms were basic but functional and clean with good aircon. Overall had a great time.
Breakfast could maybe be stored differently to stop ants getting in.
