Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaIt was clean and comfortable. The owner is really nice and has a very cute cat. Everything was great. Although its a little far from centre but you can always rent a bike or take grab. Wasn’t really much of a problem. Would highly recommend staying here

FranceEverything was perfect at Sleepy Racoon where we stayed for seven nights. Firstly, the owner and the rest of the staff are very welcoming. They help you to settle all the needs you might have. The hotel offers many services such as a laundry for your clothes, transportation for the different surrounding attractions or the rental of scooters. Furthermore, the hotel allows you to use a shared kitchen with free coffee and tea in which you'll also be able to refill your water bottles. Secondly, the comfort and cleanliness of the room. It's probably the quieter room we've had in Indonesia, far enough from the road and the mosques. The tap was pouring hot water and the AC worked well. Thirdly, you might question yourselves about the location. Indeed, the hotel is a bit far from the main attractions of the city. It's true but it allows you to have calm nights and you can get to the city center in just a few minutes of scooter or taxi.

United KingdomGap in door allowed mosquitos in the room and there was no net. However the receptionist kindly sprayed our room with bug spray which seemed to fix the problem whilst we were there.
Very cheap private room for what you get! Clean, hot water, free water dispenser, friendly staff.

SpainThe location is a bit far from the center, but grabs and Gojeks are so cheap that it didn’t matter that much. There wasn’t much space between the rows of beds in the dorm, so having to get the things out of the locker space was a bit tedious. Still not much of an issue.
Cozy hostel, I booked both a dorm bed then a private room, both were very comfy. Muk is a great owner who’s always trying to be as helpful as possible. If you wanna visit anything around Jogja (or Java in general) he’ll help you out and make a plan for you if you need it. He booked me a train for the airport because the official app doesn’t work with a foreign card, for example.

AustraliaI would say the beds aren't the comfiest and the pillows are a bit lumpy. We also got woken up by a rooster most days but to be fair that's just the indonesian experience I think!
The vibe of this place is really nice. The owner Mok is very welcoming and feels like he genuinely wants to meet and make friends with people. I felt like we did become friends during our stay. Unfortunately my partner had some health issues while we stayed here but Mok was extremely helpful with finding a hospital and everything. He was also very knowledgeable about Yogumya in general and always had a recommendation for something to see or a place to eat. The good thing about this is it creates a social atmosphere in the guests too and I found that everyone there is very open and friendly. I'd say we made a couple of long lasting friends. We also loved hanging out with the friendly cats on the property. We would absolutely stay again!

IndonesiaA little bit out of the city, but that's not really a problem, and it means prices are a bit cheaper.
The owner is so friendly and kind. If you need anything or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask him - definitely the kindest and most friendly bapak kos I've ever had! Also the room had AC which I didn't expect but was pleasantly surprised by!

New ZealandThe property is a bit far away from some of the key attractions in Yogyakarta. You will likely need to take a scooter or taxi/Grab to get to centre of the city, unless you’re keen to walk a reasonably long distance.
Cosy hostel that feels like a home away from home, with lovely and helpful staff. Strongly recommend talking to them for tips on sightseeing, places to eat, etc.

GermanyThe location, though quiet and in what looks like a nice middle-class residential area, is not convenient for sightseeing within Yogyakarta but fine if you are taking private transport to Borobodur and Pramabanan. It is about 7km from the city centre with no public transport so you will rely on taxis, rideshare, or you can rent a scooter for a reasonable price from the hostel. I used Grab motobike, and never had an issue travelling to and from the hostel, even in the dark. It felt very safe. I booked a private room with shared facilities and was a little disappointed when I got a room with very little natural light, not looking like the photographs. However, it gets dark early in the tropics, and I was out sightseeing most of the time, so while my room was rather darf and not particularly pretty, it was functional, clean, with a comfortable bed and an airconditioner that worked very well.
Sleepy Raccoon is a relaxed quiet hostel in the outskirts of Yogyakarta, good for sightseeing the UNESCO heritage sites of Borobodur and Prambanan and quite far removed from the tourist strip or Malioboro and Prawirotaman Roads. It's in a traditional Javanese home, with some rooms and dorms around a spacious living area with kitchen and some en suite family rooms in an extension, set in nice green grounds. It is very quiet, and mosts guests appear to be sightseeing and were friendly and respectful but not overly social, so it is a great place to stay with your family or part of a group. It was quiet at night, and I had a very good sleep. The owner is present most of the time and the most friendly and helpful when it comes to local sightseeing, tours, SIM cards, anything, really, without any hard sell. There are some pleasant outside areas to relax in, and two very friendly well fed cats that belong to the hostel. There is a supermarket and fruit stalls about 10min walk away, with at least 5 local warung less than 5min walk away - the whole area sees relatively few tourists, and of you want to stay in a nice local area, this is the place to be. Price was very good, well cheaper than in the Prawirotaman Road (which is more convenient for walking and has cool street art) so altogether, I was very happy with my stay here.

FranceRooms are new, clean and comfortables, shared areas are usefull (tables, kitchen, even a PlayStation !). Overall, staff is very nice. They allowed us to check in in advanced as we were tired by a long trip. Mok, the owner, is a guy with a lot of humor and good tips. He has a lot of projects for the homestay. I’m sure that this place will be a must to stay in a few months ! Hope to come again when we’ll come back in indonesia !

United StatesI stayed at the Sleepy Raccoon 🦝 a week in March and couldn’t have chosen a better place. The hostel is situated close enough to the city for easy access to food and sites but tucked away so as to remain quiet. Facilities are good and kept clean and the common areas give you many choices for how to study, relax, or commune with others.
