Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe bathrooms were a little dark, but loving one of the bedside table lamps helped immensely. No safe in the room! And unfortunately, the poor water pressure from the showers.
The hidden oasis vibe, the seclusion, the intimacy having only 10 rooms, the vibrant colours, the friendly staff and perfect temperature pool.

BelarusI wish the rooms had a kettle inside. It's a bit uncomfortable to walk to the communal area each time I needed to get some hot water to drink.
I love staying at Shelter Island whenever I visit Ubud. It's a great hotel in a very central area, close to great cafes and restaurants. It's also nice to walk around the neighborhood and rice fields that are close by.

AustraliaMy only complaint was that there wasn't a kettle in the room, had to use the large well stocked communal kitchen. Other than that no complaints.
Really enjoyed my staff at Shelter Island. The small resort is presented incredibly well. The rooms are clean and bright with a comfortable bed and well sized bathroom. The pool and lobby areas are lovely with good spaces to relax. Staff were incredibly helpful at all points in my stay. I wasn't expecting breakfast to be included so this was a nice surprise and it was a very good breakfast.

PortugalSuch a gem! I lived in Bali for 10 years and was so happy to chose Shelter Island as my landing spot for my first visit back. We stayed 3 extra nights becuase we enjoyed it so much. The staff are exceptional as is the lovely owmer, Maria. Welcoming, helpful, professional and friendly. There is a feeling of authentic bali coupled with a fun and ecclectic design making it a unique space that is universally modern while maintaing the special Bali spirit at the same time. The suite (room 1) is spacious with a large bathroom and bathtub, very comfortable bed and lounging area, plus a private outdoor sitting area with it's daybed and small table. The included breakfast from their cafe a few doors down was divine. Freshly made croissants filled with vanillla cream or chocolate, delicious coffee, fruit with housemade granola and yogurt and jamu! Such a nice way to start the day. The location is great. Great restaurants and shops and central ubud also not too far.

United KingdomBreakfast is served at a coffee shop called The Powder Room, next to the hotel. The coffee is excellent and the Continental breakfast abundant and delicious. They make their own pastries and cakes, and the place is lovely.

ItalyEverything was perfect, aligned with my expectations, a good mix of Balinese tradition and contemporary style, except for the breakfast! The croissant was wonderful, and so was the jamu... the jamu juice. But nothing else. I suggest to add some simple fruits ;)

CanadaExpected level of critters and outside sounds that comes with open-air bathrooms and bamboo roofing (bring bug spray/don’t leave lights on at night and it’s no problem). There was a slight problem with the water pump one of the days while I was there, but it was quickly resolved. The only downside I can think of for this place is that the vanity in me wishes there was a full length mirror in the room. Just expect to not know what your outfit looks like during your stay, lol.
Gorgeous property with spacious and very clean rooms. Excellent service from staff. Great central location that’s walkable to many warungs and tourist spots. The included breakfast (especially the coffee and pastries) is exceptional. Highly recommend!

NetherlandsVery noisy, expect dogs barking, cats screaming, and the neighbours in the room next to you talking. The top meter or so of the wall between our room and the adjacent one was made of glass, so if your neighbours have their lights on you basically also have your lights on. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone thought this was a good idea. Our room was serviced not even once during our four-night stay. Apart from the bathroom, our room was very spartan, No chairs/desks, no wardrobe (other rooms did have one), no coffee maker or anything (you have to go to the common area for this). While the quality of the breakfast is very high, the choice thereof is very limited and you can only get a sweet breakfast, no savoury options unless you pay extra. While the staff are all very friendly, the level of English of some of the staff makes just trying to book a tour or communicating about things a real ordeal unbefitting the price point of this hotel.
Friendly staff Good bathroom with a shower that stays warm throughout Very good wifi Quality of breakfast was very high Location was nice, sufficiently close to everything but out of the busy city center
