Lovely staff. Nice to have food options and cafe on site. Great private room after the 3 day bromo and IJen tour to catch up on sleep. Very comfortable bed but I should have booked the Aircon room - my mistake!

Nothing, all good!

Staff was great and helpful during my short stay. I arrived waaay earlier than I thought (4am) due to miscommunication with the bus company and they let me sleep in a couch near the coffee shop. Most other hostels would've told me to go for a 10hs walk and come back 2pm. The hostel feels quite new even though it has a relaxed vibe. Design looks simple but it's very effective. The space around the bed was huge so you could keep your bags and spread out your belongings nicely.

We did the Mount Bromo and Ijen Crater tour with them and it was a great experience! We only stayed at the hostel for a few hours before leaving at midnight for the tour, but the place is super nice and the staff is friendly and very accommodating. The tour was really well organized, and our guides spoke great English, kept the mood fun, and shared lots of insights. Definitely recommend!

This is a fantastic hostel. The location is great, very close to a train station and some eateries. The staff is super nice and helpful. Everything is perfectly clean. The design is interesting and thought-out. They also organise trips to Bromo, Ijen, Tempak Sewu etc. We took the Bromo sunrise one, and it went very smoothly, the driver was really great (which is important for this kind of trips). Do not hesitate to book a private room here.

The upper bunks are incredibly warm at night. The aircon and fan don’t really reach these bunks so it is can get quite hot up there. The bathrooms are very narrow so changing post shower can be quite a challenge.

I arrived to Shelter at 3am and was able to check in with ease with the night security guard. The location is excellent - most things are within walking distance. The staff are all super friendly and, when you’re going on early morning excursions, support you in the morning by checking you have appropriate equipment and communicating with your drivers. With the excursions in mind, the affiliated tour company are great. Tours were appropriately priced and the guides and drivers were excellent - especially the Mount Bromo driver who made every effort to ensure he and the jeep were visible / easily accessed and that we understood the full itinerary.

The top floor shower didn’t drain very well

Pictures really don’t do the room justice, it was a really nice loft bed with a lounge area underneath. Heaps of space and nice and clean. Our room had aircon so not hot at all. The waterfall tour from the hostel was good and the driver was friendly. Nice hot showers and plenty of bathrooms

- The room was very hot as the aircon is a temporary unit. Particularly bad for the double beds which are behind it so get blasted with hot air. It would actually be cooler if the room just had fans!

Because of the climate it can get really warm. We had the room with airconditioning and sometimes left the common area to cool off in our room.

The staff are super nice and helpful. They're always happy to make you a meal or a drink.

The room I had included a loft bed which was very hot. That said the memory foam mattress was exceptionally comfortable.

Nothing really - prices are a bit high in the restaurant but thats just compared to warungs nearby. Although coffee is only 5k, which is amazing!

We had the double bed in the shared dorm,it was sooooo comfy 😍. Great aircon also. The room was very clean, shower nice. Staff lovely with good restaurant and bar 🥰. Location is great, close to train station. Also - Do the free city tour!! We had an amazing guide who was so kind and knowledgeable, it was truly our highlight of Malang.
