How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I couldn't get the safe to work. I'm sure if I called someone, they'd have come out and fixed it.

Verified reviewMy and my partner ate hear here on our last night after spending 3 weeks in Bali. Unfortunately she got campylobacteriosis from the pork ramen. When we got home she was ill for 2 weeks with non stop diahorrea and stomach cramps.
Hi Jake Thank you for choosing to spend part of your Bali trip with us—I hope you were able to enjoy the beautiful Sidemen Valley. I’m very sorry to hear that your partner was unwell, and I hope she’s now recovering. You dined with us two weeks ago and stayed at our hotel for one night only. In your review you mention being in Bali for 3 weeks prior to arriving at our hotel and restaurant. At the time of your stay there was no reports from you that your partner was feeling unwell and these reviews are the first we have heard of any issues. I have tried a number of times to contact you via information you left however the contact information you left us was invalid or has been blocked. I wanted to give you some information in relation to your review and share the findings from our investigation into your concern that the pork ramen at our restaurant caused food poisoning - something we take extremely seriously. We were fully booked during your stay and most guests dined with us. On the night in question, 10 pork ramen bowls were served. No other guests reported illness. We contacted a local guest who ate the same dish that night; he reported no symptoms. Our daily restaurant and hotel reports for that period contain no illness reports. Our kitchen follows strict food-safety protocols and hygiene audits, which we consistently pass. Your review states that the illness was Campylobacteriosis. According to public health sources, Campylobacter has an incubation period of 2–5 days (up to 10 days), meaning symptoms do not appear within 24 hours of eating contaminated food or consuming contaminated water. If symptoms began the next day, it is therefore very unlikely they were caused by the meal at Samanvaya. These reviews you have left across a number of platforms are extremely damaging to our small, locally run business. We work very hard to maintain our reputation. We would greatly appreciate it if you could look into this claim, and—given the evidence above (readily available on the internet) hopefully see that it is unlikely the illness came from our restaurant. Verified reviewWow - amazing property in a beautiful location! "Dreamy" is the best way I can describe Samanvaya. It was a fabulous stay during our honeymoon. The property is super characterful and tasteful, down to the smallest of details. Our Alila Villa was perfection - gorgeous workmanship and one of the coolest places I've ever stayed (I'm a sucker for a beautiful bathroom, and this certainly fit the bill!). The views, staff, food, pools, facilities and location all earn a 10/10 from us!
It would be nice if the gym could be opened earlier in the morning. WiFi was in and out at times

Verified reviewOut of all the places we stayed in Bali, this was our absolute favorite. Nestled right in the middle of stunning rice fields, the hotel offers a peaceful and authentic atmosphere that immediately made us feel at home. The pool is beautiful and perfect for a refreshing dip while enjoying the serene landscape. We especially appreciated the large mosquito net around the bed, which the staff prepared for us every evening – such a thoughtful detail! The restaurant was also excellent, serving delicious food with warm and attentive service. Every meal was a pleasure. A special thanks goes to Purna, who truly made our stay unforgettable. He was so kind, friendly, and attentive – we really enjoyed getting to know him and appreciated his genuine hospitality. Travel Tip: We brought some Swiss chocolate with us, and it was a big hit! The staff were genuinely happy and excited to receive it. If you’re visiting from Switzerland, don’t forget to pack a few Schoggi – they’re very much appreciated! :-) This hotel is a hidden gem, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. We would come back in a heartbeat!

The new rooms are still part of a building site with building noise and builders walking up and down restricting wellness and privacy. Pool is a bit too chilly.

Everything is organized to profit local business and support Sidemen as a whole (the gift shop gives back part of the money, there are activities that promote the area, you can donate..). Verified reviewSamanvaya is in Sideman, which is a slice of ‘old Bali’ perfect for experiencing what Bali was probably like at its best…..away from the ridiculous traffic and crowds now prevalent in the more popular overtouristed destinations. Staff were discreet and extremely helpful, with nothing too much trouble. Food and beverages were all top quality, and the location was stunning. Amazing infinity pools, with incredible views.
Pools would benefit from a bit more shade. Many of the sun beds were without shade for much of the time.

The rooms and the views are stunning, and the food is absolutely delicious. You don’t even need to leave the hotel to have a fantastic time, although Sidemen itself is definitely worth exploring too.
