Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThis small hotel was really nice. All of the family and staff were helpful and nice. The garden was for everyone to use and was a really relaxing place. The location is wonderful and you could wander around starting at the hotel and meet nice local people and come across small restaurants. The room was good, the bed was really nice, Airco worked great. The bathroom was quite simple, but it worked out for us.

United KingdomThe owner Julie and her family are truly lovely people who provided such a warm welcome to their beautiful home. The property and garden are so colourful and vibrant. Local Indonesian breakfast were provided which were all excellent and catered for our very early schedules. We were even given a pack up on the day we left. Julie helped organise a tour to the temples.

United KingdomNothing. It was all great!
My husband and I have stayed in Rumah Gandrung for 4 nights, whilst in Yogyakarta. Our check in time had to be changed for late evening due to delayed flight. On arrival our host was friendly and has received our arrival with the biggest smile despite the late check in time. Her smile and kindness has stayed throughout our stay. Both hosts were extremely helpful to accommodate us by helping us rent a motorbike and find laundry facility. The room was lovely and clean and the breakfast was fabulous every single morning. We have received fresh coffee and freshly made traditional Indonesian/Javanese dish every morning, which was on a restaurant level of excellence. On our day of leaving, our hosts have prepared our breakfast in takeaway boxes so we could take it with us on our long journey which was a nice touch and very helpful. If you are staying in Yogyakarta, we definitely recommend you to stay in Rumah Gandrung, you will not regret it!

United KingdomWe really enjoyed our stay at Rumah Gandrung. The family was really friendly and smiley and was always available for anything. They serve a delicious traditional breakfast that varies every day as well as coffee or tea. The room was a perfect size for the two of us and we were very comfortable. The Wi-Fi worked very well. One thing to note is there is no hot water in the shower. The location is ideal for exploring Yogyakarta on foot or by car. There are attractions reachable on foot such as the Kraton, Taman Sari and Malioboro Street. It’s also perfect for reaching Yogyakarta airport (YIA) in just 1h by car as you don’t have to cross the city.

PolandThe only bad thing is that the water in the shower is cold, but it’s hot outside so it’s not that bad ;)
Very friendly family running the place, they gave us delicious breakfast every day and even dinner or lunch when we weren’t there for the breakfast! They helped with our laundry and transport. The room is nice and good enough for the price. If we ever come back to Jogja we will stay here!

BelgiumThere was a mosque nearby which is quite loud in the night (but I can imagine this is the case all around Jogja). There also was a cat that made a lot of noise, not sure if was a neighbours cat or theirs. The bathroom also wasn’t super clean but is was okay.
The host family was SUPER friendly. They helped us with any questions we had and helped us rent a scooter. The breakfast truly was amazing and we could even take it away when we wanted to leave early. Would recommend this if you stay in Jogja. Cleaned room every day.
