How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewPretty local hotel with cute bedrooms ! The family owning the place was very nice and always ready to help us (renting scooter / organizing transfers / hiking and local spots etc…). The breakfast is great ! The small rest area under the bedroom was perfect to chill and meet other travelers ! I would definitely recommend if you want to experience a local stay in Sembalun !
The surroundings are very noisy so prepare your earplugs (mainly the road and masjid just next to the bedrooms)

Verified reviewThe owner Nanang was super helpful, organising a bike for us to hire and laundry during our stay. The breakfasts were also incredible, particularly the banana pancakes!
The property is located adjacent to a big mosque which sounds multiple times a day, notably at 5am. Even though the call to prayer is heard loudly at this guesthouse, it is heard everywhere in Sembalun so it can’t be avoided anywhere.

Verified reviewThe host was amazing, he went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well looked after.
The only thing I would change is that my room had a squat toilet - but not a big deal and would not stop me from staying here.

Verified reviewThe host is extremely kind and helped us out with everything we needed (motorcycle, tips for hikes, transport...). Everything is clean and functioning. You get very good value for money here. Breakfast is delicious as well. I'm giving 10 stars because I find it unfair how many guests only rate this place lower because of the surrounding noises. If you read only one review you know what you should expect. If you can't cope with noise just don't book a place like this. Why book it and complain afterwards :)

Verified reviewComfortable bed, great breakfast, helpful host.
Room was tiny and minimal insulation from noise or temp. Mosque right behind the guesthouse began at 3.45am then full on, I mean LOUD, from 4.30am. Rosd noise also an issue until later, 9ish.

Not soundproof at all so bring earplugs. Close to the road and mosque.

Only thing to consider is the noise from the Mosque and the main road

Verified reviewStaff is very friendly
Extremely noisy because it is right at the road. If scooters pass by you can’t even talk to each other. Unfortunate that you get all the noise and smell from the street.

Verified reviewOverall a brilliant place to stay in the heart of the village, made all the better by the host Nanang! Nanang organised us a visit to the local coffee and vanilla plantations and also (at our request) took us to prayer at his local mosque to see more of their culture. The breakfast is great, especially the banana pancakes. Tea and coffee on tap. And drinking water. Thanks for having us :)
Recommendations; - Bring earplugs as the road and call to prayer is very loud. - The rooms are a bit damp, hence the lower score. Some better ventilation and all would be perfect 5 star...!

Verified reviewThe owners of this hotel are kindness personified. They took me and two other guests to visit a community co-op that grows and roasts coffee. They arranged my onward transportation in a cheap local van. They bent over backwards to show hospitality. Wonderful people.
It’s quite noisy being on the main road.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful, relaxing couple of days in Sembalun at Radiya Guesthouse. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. The toilets were basic but clean. What truly made our stay there were the owners. They were exceptionally kind and welcoming. They made us delicious banana pancakes each morning and there was always tea and coffee waiting on the porch. The scenery was stunning at the foot of Pergasinan Hill. We had a wonderful time hiking and visiting the strawberry fields, which the owners very kindly brought us to. Can’t recommend enough.
Toilets were quite basic

The room was right next to the street which was noisy, and the guest next to me was very loud so I could not sleep. There is no sink in the toilet either.

Verified reviewThe familly running the place is nice. Some of the rooms are in traditional chalet, with a platform underneath for tea/coffee/chilling. Breakfast was simple but good.
It’s next to the main road so can be noisy during the day, less at night. The synthetic towels are terrible and don’t dry you at all. The bathroom is very basic with a squatting toilet on the floor and shower head above. Water is hot and stream is powerful though.
