How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewA beautiful place to relax and take the world in. The team were amazing. It’s a short drive into town and there’s a couple of great walking options around for food and hiring a boat. Stay here.
Nothing. Perhaps not suitable if you have toddlers.

Verified reviewThis was out second visit in two years. We rated everything as excellent this time, just as we did last year. Wayan and her staff do an outstanding job, more than happy to assist and meet any requests. We ate mainly in the villa, with Wayan cooking excellent breakfasts with a good range of choice. We generally don't eat lunch, but the range of fruit on choice was of top quality. If you want the best bananas, papaya, pineapple or other fruit which comes into season, you will not fault the choice of procuce. The evening meals we chose to eat were all of traditional Balinese food, and were all delicious.
Having to leave!

Verified reviewWow! This villa is incredible. The view, the space and the staff were amazing but that pool with the view was out of this world. The photos don't do this villa justice it is bigger and better than the photos. Wayan is an amazing host her food she prepared each day for us was so delicious.
The property is fairly out of the way over really rough road. A lot of stairs to reach the villa.

The staff had access to the property and started cooking breakfast so bear in mind you can’t roam naked in the morning

No beach access, as it looks like the property has had a small landslide, & weren’t advised prior to check-in. Power & water also went out twice during our stay.

Verified reviewGreat location for snorkelling - you can go at bottom of the garden and was amazed to see fish straight away! We also went out in a small boat to 3 snorkel sites which was easily arranged by the villa staff and got on the boat a few mins walk down road. The villa views are beautiful, pool is huge and it’s walkable to a few places for lunch/dinner if you want to go out. Wayan is a great chef and enjoyed her breakfasts and one dinner in the villa. Great freshly made Nasi Goreng and chicken satay! Transfers easily arranged by villa and the driver, Arjun was very helpful but it’s a long drive from the airport side (google maps doesn’t really account for traffic so longer than expected).
Bedroom curtains are thin - lots of glass doors for the beautiful sea views but you’ll be awake early with the sun! Needs some new towels.
Dear Sarah, thank you so much for the lovely review! You comment re curtain was something we had already also realised ourselves, but you just missed our little upgrade! We were there ourselves the week following and get a full new set of curtains, both the shine through ones if you want light in, and the full blacked out ones, in case you want total darkness. We hope that you will be coming back sometime in the future and enjoy the 'new' rooms! :)

Verified reviewThe location is pretty but…. You won’t have any privacy. The doors are always open even if you close them the cleaners and the other people have a key and hang out there “cleaning “ I told then not to clean one day and they insisted that they do so. They still came inside the villa. I had the feeling they were there to watch us. The towels are stiff because they use to much soap and do not have drier. That’s what we thought at the beginning, we asked them if we can wash our clothes they said yes. We were shocked when we saw that washing machine… the pictures you see are after my husband poured in bleach, scrubbed it and let the machine cycle. Any area that gets wet stinks like black mold and their washing machine is full of black mold m. On top of that the settings on the machine do not work so it is not getting hot or warm to kill the mold or anything else. It just spins the laundry around in water and sits resting all of the time. Without additional detergent, the drum was full of residual foam, and black mold. They likely use so much detergent to cover the black mold smell. It is disgusting and if that’s not enough there is black mod everywhere on the walls they dry everything next to a wall with black mold … you breath in and sleep in black mold … because of that I got very bad allergies all over my body I also started to cough as you can see that’s was my face from 1 day at this location. I was forced to take steroids pills … I told them this and they did not really care they wanted to put me the last night in the “villa“ next door that also belongs to them. We were able to get one night refunded.
Dear Paulina, As communicated all along to you since you reported this problem, we are very sorry to see that you have had a bad experience with us, or better, with our laundry machine. We have since purchased a new machine and spent some more time training our staff. In fact, we are normally pretty happy with the laundry in Celagi, since we also run another place - a bit bigger - for which we outsource the laundry but we have learned that it is very hard to get it done well in Amed. I hope this improves. Having said all that, from the first moment you reported about your skin problems, we have offered you a full refund of your remaining stay, and we also as mentioned directly have organised a new place for you at no additional cost. Our staff already told us that you weren't happy from the moment you walked into our villa, and we really would like to have happy guests, hence we offered a (certainly better, no mold) other place at no extra charge. We would have offered this from day 1 if you had reported this on day 1, we're not in business to take money from unhappy guests. We also offered to refund one of the two nights you already stayed with us. It would have allowed you to spend the rest of your stay in a place where you wouldn't have skin problems, at no extra charge whatsoever. We don't really understand why you didn't take that offer. In fact, this is what we wrote to you, within hours of receiving your complaint: "Dear Paulina, we are very sorry to hear about the laundry problems you're facing, we have never had issues with this before but we also normally don't let our guests use the machine (not to hide anything, but just in case things would break, that would be a challenge, that had happened before). Laundry in Amed is a real challenge indeed, there are no good laundry services locally and it is hard to get the laundry to be done properly (without too much detergent; we have multiple properties, for The Angsa next door, we use an external service, but also there, it is hard to get it done well; we warn our guests that laundry is not great and that we can't take responsibility, sadly). Sorry to bug you with this story, but it is an ongoing search for us. We thought that in Villa Celagi we had it resolved now, with Wayan doing all the laundry herself, and so far we haven't had any problems or concerns, and never any complaints or problems. Hence it is a bit of a shock to us to hear this situation. And we are very sorry that you are in this. I am at this very moment unsure what we can do to support, but if you have too much of a problem with your skin because of this, and you wanted to check out to stay elsewhere, we would of course be very sad that we have not been able to make this a good experience for you, but understand it, and we would of course return the charges for the canceled nights back to you. We will also return the charge for one night to you. It is clear that we'll need to get a new washing machine again, and again educate good use. We are so sorry again that you can't enjoy our villa as we'd like our guests to enjoy it, but hope that you can still have either a better remainder of your stay, or that you can find a better place elsewhere in Amed. If the latter is what you want, the best way would be to cancel your stay with us and ask for the refund which we will then approve. Or we can call booking.com ourselves if you prefer, but they will call you for a double check (hosts can't cancel for guests, which makes sense). Please let us know how you'd like us to proceed in this. " Again, I'm very sad that you experienced this in this way, and to be honest we were also quite surprised that you didn't want to move out from the first moment you reported this and we offered to book something else, anything else really, no necessary our place next door. If I had such an allergic reaction, coughing, allergies all over my body, I would run away very quickly, certainly if the place offered to find a free alternative in the area (there are beautiful alternative in this area of Bali).. We are also very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with our - what we think very lovely - staff. They can stay out of your way, though do need to do a quick round daily - in fact not every day - to just make sure all is good and clean, the pool needs attending, and fallen leaves need cleaning. Same for maybe some droplets from cicaks or other small animals; as you have seen, it's an open house. They do this with most care and very gentle, and they will alway be out of your way very soon afterwards. They will also never ever open the door to your bedroom if you are in or if you ask them to leave the bedroom as is. with best regards and we hope that otherwise you had a lovely stay in Bali, Team Villa Celagi.

Verified reviewVilla Celagi was an amazing villa in a peaceful location and beautiful surroundings, still close enough to Amed center and good variety of restaurants. Host Wayan and also the rest of staff were very kind and helpful. Anything you could imagine to ask for, Wayan arranged; instructions, motorbike rental, snorkeling gear, massages, dinner, laundry and so forth. Villa's beds were also worth mentioning, very comfortable and nice to ensure good night sleep. Beaches and good snorkeling spots are accessible by a walk and with shore entry, no need necessarily to get any boat trips. Villa's own shore access was a bit rough with big waves and rocks but something to see there as well. Amed area in general was the best part of our Bali vacation, so much more quiet and peaceful than Ubud and mountain views combined with ocean next to you overcome Nusa Penida from nature perspective.

Verified reviewAn excellent cook was available for all meals. After experiencing her dishes we ate out only one time in 6 days. She will adjust the wonderful Balinese food to the required degree of spiceness. Do try the mahi mahi fish. The pool is meticulously maintained by the gardener. We swam without ear protection, no worries. The other gem is the cleaner who doubles as a masseuse. Her traditional massage, at a bargain price, is heads and shoulders (sorry for the pun) above the most expensive massages my wife and I have ever had. The beds are super comfortable, the view is to die for. Our only worry is that it will be too difficult to get a booking next time we want to go!

Verified reviewThis Villa is a property which everyone should consider staying in their life time. It has stunning view of the ocean and a spacious accommodation for a group of 6-9 people. The villa has cooking facilities and cook as well. Value for money food options are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are restaurants in nearby location which can deliver food at Villa. Juices snd alcoholic beverages can be bought for home delivery from nearby stores. The villa offers a huge living room snd multiple sit out arrangements overlooking the Indian Ocean waters. The villa is very peaceful and no traffic or other disturbances. This Villa has beautiful rustic blend and modern architecture. There is a massage facility on demand at affordable charges . The swimming pool is huge and offers a stunning view of the ocean and a once in a lifetime time experience! We enjoyed over stay. The staff Wayne and Nanga were very helpful. We would certainly visit again.
One has to climb down about 25 stairs to reach the villa. So people having difficulty with climbing stairs or getting down stairs, will find it challenging.
