How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was unreal! We had the best experience staying at Herman's!! They are the best hosts! Amazing place, great location close to the harbour if you're planning a trip to Gili Islands. I would 100% recommend it!!

Verified reviewFarmy setting with cows and chicks etc. responsive owner. he arranged for pickup for me from gili after I was stung by a jellyfish on a tour he arranged. he offered me hot tea when he found out I was sick.
Accommodation at the end of a long narrow path not accessible by car. You may need to walk all the way with all your luggage. No toiletries supplied in the room. No hot water. No pipe down the sink. Cocks may wake you up early as a solo female traveller, owner made me feel a bit uncomfortable by touching my hand and arm. tho he stopped after I complained the snorkelling tour I booked with him is quite hectic and lost. He told me to wake up early (6am) for the snorkeling tour he arranged (in case he denies it in reply, because he already did in real life, I have WhatsApp timestamps to prove my words), but the tour only leaves at 9:30am. I end up having to wait for two hours in a smelly noisy place. It’s also not a tour from bangsal but he put me in a public commute boat first to go to Gili and the tour only departs from Gili. There was no guidance or instructions. the “friend” he told me to follow disappears practically all the way. I suggest you can take the boat yourself and book your tour at gili, more convenient and cheaper. When the tour operator at Gili called him to inquire on my behalf, he just made up excuses, hanged the call on me and told bad things about me in Bahasa with tour operator. For context I’ve been friendly and cordial, constantly smiling and passing small gifts to his kids. So I don’t see how I deserve this treatment. when i needed to go to airport. i arranged with him because i was too sick to go to town. we agreed on the price for a private car. when the day came, it turned out that I couldn't leave at my time and had to share the car with other guests, and he still expected the same price. I was honestly shocked. he basically said I could either take it or go with someone else, fully knowing that there was no time to arrange with someone else (the accommodation is far from town and I had all my luggages with me). when I politely insisted on what I was promised for my money, he implied that I was an angry person by disposition.

Verified reviewGood location close to the port, good motor bikes for rental on the spot. The owner was nice and spoke good english.
If you like rosters it is a perfect place for you. The facilities are very basic and there is only cold water.
thanks

Verified reviewHerman’s (owner) was first of all the most incredible host we’ve ever had. His friends and family are just as nice and made us feel so welcome. We cooked dinner together, played cards and helped each other learn English/Bahasa. It was such an amazing experience. The foods is lovely, location is great and it’s the most rewarding stay we’ve ever had. We are already going to go back in a few days purely for them! If you’re debating staying here, please do. Take the time to talk to everybody there and get involved. Herman does so much for his community, and if you’re looking to give back in anyway, Herman is the guy to speak to! There was not a single fault in the home stay. Couldn’t recommend more.
Absolutely nothing. 11/10

Verified reviewWe had such a great time there. The owner is amazing. We enjoyed a nice talk with him and he took really good care of us. The location is also perfect, not far from the harbor but far enough to be in a peaceful area. The little bungalow is really cosy.
The only thing was maybe that it was missing a piece of furniture in the room so we could put our stuff but that’s only a small detail.

Verified reviewAbsolutely amazing! Best stay you can wish for. The cottages are on a beautiful rice field with view of the nearby mountains. The mattress is really comfortable and the food is amazing! What makes staying here really amazing though is the host himself. Herman is such an amazing person who truly cares about his guests and does so much work for the community in his village. It was so nice talking with him about everything he does... Simply inspiring! Furthermore, he can drive you to the airport or wherever you need to go on the island and can give you island tours and show you around. Highly recommend staying there and having a good conversation with him. Simply unwind and enjoy this little piece of heaven!
Thanks my brother

Verified reviewGreat calm and remote location from the city. Next to the rice fields, it emerges you in the local life. Herman and his wife are the kindest, the food is great too. I came back from climbing the Rinjani and Herman organized a massage for me at the bungalow! Had a very good relaxed time.
Not the best place to sleep in, mosques and local life around but didn’t bother me at all!

Verified reviewMr Herman and his wife were so welcoming and kind, they cooked us dinner and breakfast- both which were lovely. The accommodation had a comfy bed, fan and outdoor sitting area with a hammock, which we enjoyed relaxing in. The location is good for people finishing trekking mount rinjani or heading to the Gili islands! I recommend this accommodation as you feel at home and very welcome.
No curtain on window, but the accommodation is brand new so this was not a problem.

Verified reviewHerman and his wife are lovely, the location is good if you want to be close to Bangsal. Was awesome to be able to rent a motorbike to explore the local area. Can see the potential when the project is finished, the property is beautiful
The site is still under construction. Also keep in mind there is no AC (though it's cooler than expected being a bit inland), the shared bathroom could be in a lot better shape.

Verified reviewHerman and his wife are super friendly and helpful with anything you need. They made some delicious food for us and made sure we were very welcome and comfortable. I would 100% recommend staying here, especially if you are on a budget as the price is very cheap!
The only small issue is the shower was cold but I love cold showers and find them refreshing especially in the warm weather! So not an issue for me.

Verified reviewThis property is in a spectacular location and is owned by a spectacular host. Hermann is a lovely sort who invited us to dine with his family whilst they celebrated Ramadan. It was a truly special part of our trip. The room is comfortable and has a nice patio area but the key benefit to staying here is the fact that you feel truly ensconced within the community.
Bathroom was slightly unclean but not too bad.
Thanks you very much

Verified reviewI stayed in Herman's place and himself and her wife and Hapit treat me so nice. The huts are simple but the place and views and the are so great and cozy. The place is quite new and the access can be a little tricky with but he is making effort to make the place look even better.
