How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe booked the garden villa, the suite and outside space were stunning and such a gem to achieve some privacy whilst having access to all the communal areas to. The staff and host Liam were great and we felt really well looked after. The location was ideal in terms of distance to popular beach clubs and sites by car, everything we wanted to see/do were no more than a 20/30 min drive away.
I wouldn't change a thing.

Verified reviewThe place is lovely, we loved the shared space and the room. There are two rooms on the upper floor, lower part is shared between them and the pool villa, which is in the other part of the garden. The breakfast was one the best ones from our whole trip.
There was an ongoing construction next to the property, but we were informed about it beforehand, so it was really nice of owners to do so. It was still awesome, no regrets.

There is some construction next door but we have been warned in advance and Uluwatu is currently developing fast, so the risk of construction noise is everywhere.

Verified reviewThe common area is really nice, staff is polite and there is detailed guide from the owner with a lot of information for everything you need which we find very helpful. Breakfast was also very good.
The room is a bit small and it would be good if there is some mini fridge and mirror in it. Also the location is currently surrounded by construction work and it is not very pleasant to walk by foot to the main road with restraunts and shops.

Verified reviewWe had a great stay at the villa – it was absolutely lovely, with such relaxing vibes throughout. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast was really delicious. A perfect place to unwind!
There is some construction in the neighborhood, but it didn’t really bother us as we were out most of the day. Plus, the landlord had informed us in advance, which we appreciated. Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable experience!

There is heaps of shade around the pool. If you need uninterrupted sunlight (not me, I’m pale), plan to visit the beach or a beach-club with a pool. Liam and Elise will have the best suggestions as always

Verified reviewI've been to Bali a number of times and Melali might be my favorite guest house I've stayed at on the island! The decor is absolutely beautiful and every detail in the rooms has been thought through (i.e. premium towels, bedding, and shower amenities). We stayed in the pool villa and the room was spacious and the outdoor bathroom and garden were really beautiful, and (most importantly for me) it was very quiet being sheltered from street noise. Not to mention the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had with a good selection and super high quality ingredients. I can't recommend Melali and the super welcoming and professional staff enough! Will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Uluwatu.

Liam and Elise were excellent hosts also, and super helpful with tips on places to visit. Tucked away at the end of the road meaning it was nice and quiet, but only a few minutes away from restaurants and bars.

Verified reviewA HIDDEN GEM!!!! The staff were so wonderful! It’s a beautiful villa owned by two lovely foreigners. Elise and Liam have left an imprint in our hearts! They will accommodate any of your needs and beyond! This has been the best experience for us traveling all the way from South Africa! Elise and Liam tried to help us even with our extra luggage and late checkout. Dealing with foreigners sure have created such an ease as they understand our needs better coming from traveling personally too! Location- amazing! It was very convenient to many restaurants and cafes within 10 minutes. With traffic in Bali- this is all you need to motivate you to book it! Cleanliness- 5 stars! The staff was so sweet and cleaned up daily. They didn’t interrupt your stays early morning as other places do, and are very attentive and just the sweetest! Rooms- Rooms boasted a lovely comfy bed that did not want to make us leave! Soft bedding and a net for mosquitos. Breakfast- the Omelette was great, we didn’t get to fully experience the breakfasts as we woke up late often, but the COFFEE! Omg. The real showstopper. Overall- don’t think twice. Book it! For the price you pay, you get 5 star treatment. We stayed at an international hotel after in Jimbaran and quite frankly i feel we paid less at Melali but got much better treatment. The warmth , the love and the happiness we experienced there, we will carry in our hearts wherever we go!

Verified reviewWhat a great place to stay and what a super host! Great staff also. It’s like a little bit a B&B, but with the privacy of a hotel. We had a great time there and everything was perfect. Beds are very comfortable, room is very clean and neat.
Can’t find anything to complain about. It was perfect. And as you can see in my other reviews, mostly I can find something to complain about 😉

Verified reviewWe absolutely loved our stay here, we did not want to leave! This hotel is so special, so cared for and just beautiful. Every little detail has been thought of (wonderful toiletries, kimonos to use in the room, complimentary tea and coffee, books, stunning breakfasts.. I could go on). Elise and Liam are wonderful - so kind, helpful and friendly and make everyone feel at home straight away. They provide a little book in the room full of recommendations as well as their incredible blogs too (definitely read it all, there are great tips!) and are still happy to suggest things during your stay. They really know how to take care of their hotel and their guests and it shows. The hotel was a little oasis with a gorgeous garden and pool. We loved that it was a small hotel with just one other room and a villa, it felt so tranquil. The breakfasts are spectacular and wish I could have tried all of them! Thank you for a wonderful ending to our honeymoon, it was the perfect hotel!
