Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaNothing! The one thing to note is it is advisable to rent scooters for those who want to get around, this was not an option for us, as we were travelling with 3 kids, but Kantu and villagers from Kelusa village were kind to assist us with transport to various places in Bali.
We had a marvelous, out-of-this-world time at the Masakali retreat, a truly serene place with amazingly kind staff, hidden away from the bustle of Bali. Staff was attentive, and took great care of us, organising Yoga workshops, a bicycle trip over the ricefields as well as lovely meals. They even took care of some hard-to-crack cononuts for the kids. The Akasha villa was spacious and was ideal for a relaxing week - we hardly wanted to leave for our day trips. Our gratitude once again to Ira and her team for caring for us over these unforgettable 6 days. Hope to return sooner, rather than later!

BahrainWe had a wonderful experience at Masakali. All the staff members were excellent and consistently went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. A special mention to Manager Ira, who was exceptional in her service and attention to detail, including arranging a special menu for us. We would also like to express our appreciation for Mr. Kantu, who managed the logistics and car services flawlessly. His efforts greatly contributed to the ease and enjoyment of our stay. We highly recommend Masakali for a comfortable and memorable stay with family.

SwitzerlandIn the room, there is a kind of a smell in the wardrobes. Also the pool was a bit cold but I think that depends on what time of the year you are visiting Ubud.
A beautiful villa with very kind and friendly staff. The view from the villa is amazing. Breakfast was also good, but I also asked to order toasts additionally. I also ordered therapists for massage nearly every day. There is also yoga classes. For pick up from the airport or guidance in Ubud, ask for the driver Kantu. A great person, very friendly and always offers fair prices.

PolandSince the entrance to Masakali is in the middle of a ricefield it should be better marked or even some sort of bell should be there to let the staff know and assist you.
Villa offers a very nice view on the jungle and a pool to relax. Staff member Ira was really helpful with organising a trip, order food and answering questions.

GermanyWe were treated so nicely by the staff at Masakali retreat. They made sure every care was taken care of, they even offered a ride for my wife for when we needed to get local currency. The local restaurant was delicious, go for the ribs!! We had a couples massage which was relaxing. The only recommendation we would give is to have a pod coffee machine vs instant coffee.

AustraliaIt wasn't a problem for us, but to avoid arguments, it is probably worth being aware that the rooms are different sizes (the upstairs room is massive!) and in different styles.
The property is beautiful and links so well with the environment. The common areas are open to the outside and you feel so grounded in the beautiful scenery of the rice terraces and the jungle beyond. At night there were fireflies in the rice terraces and occasionally they would even fly into the villa. Magical. The pool area is stunning. The three bedrooms were all private and unique and separate from the main open areas. Each has an ensuite and there is an extra toilet in the common space. Ira was our main contact person, and she was absolutely lovely and incredibly helpful. We could contact her through WhatsApp any time and she was very responsive. Kantu, Masakali's driver, was so patient, picking us up from the airport when our flight was delayed, stopping so we could get some groceries and again to get some take away for dinner to eat at the Villa on the first night. He drove us around a couple of times during our stay and he was full of ideas about local sights to visit and happily answered all my questions about culture, scenery etc. Everyone made us feel so special. The area is away from the busyness of Ubud in a village surrounded by rice fields. We enjoyed being in a quieter area as we experienced the peacefulness and were still able to walk to three lovely restaurants and also enjoyed a dinner at the villa one night.

ItalyI want to spend a few words to thank everyone at Masakali retreat, from the owner, to the manger Ira and all the staff for welcoming us with kindness. We were supposed to stay much longer but we had to urgently go back home for personal reasons but nevertheless they were able to give us an extraordinary experience. The place is stunning, the bungalow is in the middle of the nature with a private pool facing beautiful rice fields. The place is clean and fully equipped, driver is avalaible upon request for airport transfers and tour around the area. I work as a travel coordinator and I rarely find such high standards of quality and professionalism at a very reasonable price. Thank you! We will come back

ItalyNothing, if we only had more time :-)
We stayed at the Akasha Villa, and our experience was truly amazing! The views from our living room were stunning, making us feel like we were in the middle of the jungle, all while feeling safe and cared for by the Masakali team. Ira, the excellent manager, took care of all our needs promptly, from morning to night. Kantu was our superb guide, driver, photographer, and babysitter—we enjoyed every single minute of our trips with him. It's a wonderful place with wonderful people, and we would recommend it to everyone. We hope to come back one day. Thank you so much, Masakali!
