How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI loved that the room was very clean. Big bed and spacious bathroom with a nice storage rack. Loved that it was a part of their home, you feel like you are a part of the family. It’s a little bit of a walk from the main center but not bad if you enjoy walking. Streets aren’t too busy to walk anyway
The only negative was the roosters, but then again this is everywhere in Bali. Just come prepared with headphones/ ear plugs.

Verified reviewWe really enjoyed staying with Made and his wife. It was great to have someone answer our questions about Bali and explain all that was new to us. The 2 rooms are modern, new, large and clean, the beds very comfortable. They sit separate on the property which is quietly situated a few rows from the main street. We also booked Made for a day-tour, - one of the highlights of our Bali-trip! We visited the rice terraces, a waterfall and the Besakih temple. His English is sufficient and his knowledge about culture and plants is great. The meals Made's wife cooked for us were very tasty. What we enjoyed most was the welcoming atmosphere and that they offered us some insight into balinese culture. Would totally stay with them again.

Verified reviewWe had a great stay at Made Putu. The rooms are spacious and clean. There is the option to have breakfast, dinner and lunch. The food is great. The hosts are really nice. We did a day trip (rice fields, waterfall, temple) with them and had an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend staying here.
Nothing. All perfect.

Verified reviewMade and Putu were very friendly hosts and made us feel welcome guests. Putu's meals were good, we really loved the breakfast pancakes and fresh fruit. Our room was comfortable, looking out onto attractive gardens.
The short steep slope from the roadway to the lane which led to the property.

Verified reviewWe had 3 nights wonderful nights with Made & Putu. The food was delicious. Made went out of his way to shows us the highlights of the area. He took us to a Silver Class which we loved. They both made our stay so memorable and we hope to return one day. Highly recommend this Homestay.
Nothing. It was perfect.

Verified reviewThe homestay is well located in Sidemen, in a pleasant and quiet setting. The room is spacious, and the breakfast served was of good quality.
I do not recommend organizing your transfers with the homestay. After our stay in Sidemen, we wanted to go to Nusa Lembongan. The host offered to arrange the transfer, and we chose to trust him, which we unfortunately regretted afterward. He assured us that a ferry left Kusamba at 9 a.m. to avoid the waves and therefore advised a departure from the homestay at 7:30 a.m. Once we arrived at the port, we learned that the ferry actually only left at 10:30 a.m., and the sea conditions were rougher. So, we had to wait for 2.5 hours for the departure. Another unpleasant surprise: the ferry did not go directly to Nusa Lembongan but to Nusa Ceningan. We then had to take a bus and walk to reach our final destination. On top of that, the transportation fare between the homestay and the port was significantly higher — 100,000 rupiah more than the price offered through the Grab app. Therefore, I recommend being cautious about the services offered by the homestay. Finally, regarding the room, there was an unpleasant smell in the bathroom as well as a high humidity level.

Verified reviewLovely hosts who were extremely accommodating. They took us out to the rice fields, and had a scooter we hired. The food was traditional Balinese and absolutely beautiful. They always went above and beyond giving us extras, the Balinese cakes were amazing. Room was very modern and comfy, we only stayed for 2 nights but wish we were there longer!

Verified reviewMy stay at Made Putu Homestay was exactly what I was looking for: a glimpse into a real Balinese home and the hosts Made and Putu made it even more exceptional. So much so that I ended up extending it for one more night! I arrived early in the evening and they welcomed me with open arms. I stayed for dinner that night (which was delicious) and they kept me company as I was traveling solo. They are genuine about wanting to get to know their guests (only two rooms which makes it even more intimate like if you were staying at family house) while still giving you your own privacy. Through them, I was able to understand the Balinese culture from a local point of view from the nourishing and delicious meals to the excursions they took me on (rice fields, Besakih Temple, Tirta Gangga, waterfalls, etc) I could not have more please with my stay. The location was also amazing, in the center of the village and walking distance to the market, restaurants, the rice trekking with breath-taking views of Mount Agung, silver jewelry workshops. They will also help you with traveling to your next destination by either driving you or arranging a car. I can only recommend it!

Verified reviewEverything. This is one of the best places in Bali. Compared to some other accommodations, this was just perfect. Super clean, huge room and huge private bathroom with nice design, delicious food for breakfast and dinner. Made & Putu are incredibly nice. If you look for authentic homestay and hoping for great quality at the same time, this is the place. I wish we booked more nights, there is so much to do in Sidemen, also for a better price than in more touristy destinations, we could really use our time here. Next time hopefully!
The roosters, can wake you up but we had no big problems.

Verified reviewWe felt welcome from the first moment and the owners made our stay memorable. Terima kasih! It is a home stay, so all food is home made. If you like, you have your own privacy / two rooms with a terrace are in a different house - but a part of a beautiful garden. If you are interested, many tips what to see around shared, you can rent a motorbike for a reasonable price and also any transfer can be offered. So it is a great help. Great location - in the centre, very nice garden to enjoy breakfast, food or just a drink. Facilities are new and clean; comfortable bed.

Made and Putu were extremely kind and went out of their way to make us feel welcome, introducing us to local foods and taking us to the local temples. We also have a walk in the rice fields and took a cooking class with them, both of which were very good.

Verified reviewI stayed 4 nights with Made and Putu, it was the perfect place after staying in Kuta for a couple of days. Sidemen is a nice small town with only a few tourists. Made and Putu were amazing hosts and I really enjoyed staying with them. We went to local ceremonys, the rice fields and the waterfall. It is so special to go there with locals, you get to see more and different places then you would see just as a tourist on your own. Also the breakfast and dinner I had at their place were amazing! It's one of the smaller and really local homestays, so perfect if you want to get to know the real Sidemen. Hope to come back one day!

Verified reviewEverything is just perfect. It felt like as if we would stay with our family. The warmth and love of the hosts is just exceptional, the cleanliness, the spacious room, the location, the beautiful nature and many more just made our trip unique. We had a cooking class with the hosts Made & Putu, went to the rice fields together, could borrow their scooter and we always got extras for breakfast and lunch. Made & Putu have a special place in our hearts and we will come back soon!

Verified reviewThis was one of the best accommodation experiences I have ever had. As a solo traveller, I have never felt more welcomed or looked after. Made and Putu are the perfect hosts and the warmest Indonesians I have met. Despite us speaking two different languages, we conversed, and laughed, and they looked after me. Putu is a phenomenal cook and I felt right at home. The room is within their property yet private and entirely self-contained. If you want alone time, you can have it. Equally, if you want to immerse yourself with the family, there is a small outdoor kitchen dining area. The room itself was uncluttered, modern and pristinely clean (and I’m picky!). The sheets and linen were fresh and the bathroom was also modern and super clean. The shower was better and more consistent in pressure and temperature than the four star resort I’ve just come from and paid triple the cost for in Ubud. Sidemen is a magical village and the Bali I always dreamed of experiencing. Made Putu is in the perfect spot, right between the village and market and the new cafes and villas. They let me borrow their scooter but it’s no more than a 15 minute walk in either direction to get to the village markets, or the newer cafes. I will be back in July….. I just wish I stayed longer! If you want to experience authentic Bali, this is exactly where you need to book. Terimakasih! ❤️❤️
Nothing. It was an amazing experience.
