How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe property was lovely, clean and beautiful. The suite was huge and so spacious. If we needed everything the workers where there to help whenever will no problems. There were so polite and respectful. Our flight was delayed and we ended up getting there for 2 am which was out of the check in time, but a staff member was there and still showed us around without any issues. Really recommend this place to people. The only issue was it was a 45 min drive from ubud centre but we knew it was abit far out, but really quite safe peaceful place to stay.

Verified reviewLocated in a beautiful village outside of central Ubud, this is a newer traditional Balinese house with a warm team and beautiful decor. Bed was extremely comfortable, water was hot, bath tub was excellent, and garden was beautiful. The hotel arranged a driver which was super convenient, and they even waited up when I arrived quite late to take me to my room and assist with my bags. Very sweet team-- especially Indra! Thank you!
When I first arrived the team was overly communicative, calling to see if I wanted breakfast or cleaning. Mid-way through I had a hard time getting in touch with them to discuss a possible extension/ cost, discuss transportation, etc. Not a major thing and I got it sorted.

We were able to relax and unwind. The staff is very kind and helpful, exceptional breakfast served in your room or on your own terrace by the pool. The location is perfect as in a waking distance you can find restaurants with great food and prices, as well as enjoy the quote surroundings. Verified reviewLovely villa with a private pool. Staff were amazing. Always asking what they can do help. Beautiful setting. Location suited us as we wanted to explore but it is a long way from Ubud. The design of the villa was perfect and the bathroom very luxurious.
Breakfast was brought from another site. Would be better to offer an eat in voucher so people can go to the actual restaurant because the meal is cold by the time it gets to the villa. Bathroom skylights leak which causes a slip hazard. Water pump is noisey. The hot water wasn't hot enough to heat the stone bath so unless you like a Luke warm bath the bath wasn't usable. Hot water really needed to be hotter.

Verified reviewi really enjoyed the room, the way it was so clean & comfortable. we felt so good in there, the room exceeded our exceptions. Would definitely recommended it. Thanks to all the amazing staff (Indra, Jony, Putra & Perdi), who were so helpful and incredibly kind. Also, the location is so nice, you’ll be next to many things to visit (waterfall, temple etc), I recommend rent a motorbike to the hotel.

My stay at Maddu Suites was an absolute nightmare. From day one, the room was completely unhygienic: There were insects everywhere, including a large swarm of ants in the bathroom, cleaning up dead bugs — yes, ants were doing the cleaning. There were also spiders and spider webs in several parts of the room. The place was impossible to sleep in, and I genuinely feared for our health. After adressing the situation, they cleaned the room but nothing changed, I even found brown, orange and red stains on my towels — utterly disgusting. The reception was not available 24/7, which meant I couldn’t get help when needed, not even to report the filth or order breakfast. Communication was equally terrible: management responded days late, if at all. When I complained, the first manager admitted the situation was unacceptable and said I would get a refund for one night. I made it clear that wasn’t enough given the severity of the issues, and she promised to follow up after talking tot he owner. She never did. Nothing. No message, no solution — just silence. Days later, another manager suddenly offered a “free taxi or massage” — a laughable and insulting response to serious health and safety problems. She also promised I could speak to the owner and would share his number, only to later ignore me and say it wasn't possible. To make matters worse, they claimed I had already been refunded for the first night — a complete lie. I never received a cent. After days of escalating issues and no real solution, the second manager finally told me that regardless of the situation, they operate under a strict non-refundable policy. That was the last straw. Out of self-respect and concern for our health and safety, we decided to check out two days early. This was by far the worst accommodation experience I’ve ever had. Misleading, unhygienic, unprofessional, and completely indifferent to guest welfare. I strongly advise others to stay far away from this place.
